FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Police have arrested a Fort Wayne woman who took her dead baby daughter to another house to seek help from a friend. Twenty-five-year-old LaDawn Depree Johnson was being held in Allen County Jail on $45,000 bond Friday on preliminary charges of neglect and battery. The News-Sentinel reports the county coroner has ruled the death of month-old Alyssa Johnson a homicide. The coroner's office says she died of a fractured skull. The coroner's office says the child was dead when medics arrived at the house Thursday. Police say the home to which the child was brought Thursday morning offers child-care services. Police spokeswoman Raquel Foster says it isn't clear whether the friend Johnson was seeking help from lives at that address.

Mom guilty in 4-wk-old daughter's death




FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - It only took a jury about two hours to convict LaDawn Johnson Thursday in the death of her four-week-old baby.
According to the Allen County Prosecutor's office, the jury found Johnson guilty of three counts: Battery, Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death, and Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Bodily Injury.
Last year, police found Alyssa Johnson dead at a home on Fairfield Avenue. She had a skull fracture and bleeding around the brain.
The judge will sentence Johnson on May 16th.
