A 14-year-old Coon Rapids girl has not been seen since she left for school yesterday morning (Wednesday, Dec. 15).
Hanjoo Ashley Lee did not arrive at Coon Rapids High School, where
she is a freshman, and has not been heard from since, according to Det.
Brad Johnson, Coon Rapids Police.
As a result a crime alert has been issued by the Minnesota Bureau of
Criminal Apprehension (BCA) through its crime alert network.
Lee is believed to have voluntarily left with her boyfriend Young Hoon Kim, 23, Maple Grove, Johnson said.
There is no evidence that Lee did not go with Kim of her own free will, he said.
But because Lee is a juvenile, at the very least Kim could face a deprivation of parental rights charge, Johnson said.
The couple are believed to be in Kim’s vehicle, a 2002 silver Audi A4 with Minnesota license plate, 100AWJ.
According to Johnson, the vehicle has been entered into the KOPS
statewide law enforcement system and Lee has been listed as a runaway
juvenile with the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as well as
the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
“Written plans to leave the country, via airline, have been discovered by both Lee’s family and Kim’s family,” Johnson said.
A credit card receipt has been located for British Airways tickets purchased by Kim, he said.
Spain might be their destination, but Lee’s passport is still at her Coon Rapids home, Johnson said.
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Police have been notified and are assisting in the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Johnson at 763-767-6560 or at 763-427-1212.
According to the BCA website, more than 7,200 Minnesota law
enforcement agencies, businesses, schools and community members
participate in the crime alert network, making it the nation’s most
unique and efficient network of communications between law enforcement
agencies and the communities they serve.http://abcnewspapers.com/2010/12/16/coon-rapids-girl-14-missing-crime-alert-issued-2/

The 23-year-old boyfriend of a 14-year-old Coon Rapids girl, who was
reported missing after she did not arrive at school Dec. 15 has been
charged with a felony in Anoka County District Court.
A warrant was issued by the court Dec. 16, for the arrest of Young Hoon Kim, Maple Grove.
Kim and the girl, Hanjoo Ashley Lee, were stopped in the car Kim was
driving by the Ohio State Patrol near the town of Berea in eastern Ohio,
shortly before 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16, according to Det. Brad Johnson, Coon
Rapids Police.
While Kim is in jail in Ohio awaiting extradition on the charge, Lee’s father took a plane to Ohio to pick up his daughter.
Lee, a freshman, had left her home for Coon Rapids High School Dec.
15 and when the school called her father to tell him that she had not
arrived, he contacted police, believing that she had run away with her
male friend, Kim, according to the complaint.
Statewide and nationwide alerts for Lee and Kim were issued and the pair were possibly planning to leave the country.
In Kim’s bedroom at his home, the suspect’s father found a list of
flights from various places in the United States to Spain, the complaint
alleges.
According to Johnson, the pair tried to board a British Airways plane
from Chicago, Ill., to London, England, but were turned away.
Kim and Lee spent the night of Dec. 15 at the Felix Hotel in Chicago, but had checked out before noon Dec. 16, Johnson said.
But about 2 p.m. Dec. 16, a credit card belonging to Kim’s father was used at a Starbucks in Elkhart, Ind., he said.
According to Johnson, Kim had made reservations for two hotels in New
York City – Dec. 18 to Dec. 24 at the Milford Plaza Hotel and Dec. 25
to Jan. 4 at the Bentley Hotel.
Lee’s father told police that she did not have permission to leave
with Kim, while Kim’s father said that his son took his car and appeared
to be driving to New York City, the complaint alleges.http://abcnewspapers.com/2010/12/22/missing-girl-found-safe-felony-charge-filed-against-boyfriend/
