"Toddler John" VINEIS - 2 yo - Volusia (NE of Orlando) FL

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Volusia County deputies say a couple was arrested for child abuse after a toddler ingested prescription pills on Saturday.According
to investigators, the couple called 911 after the two-year-old was
found gasping for air and falling in and out of consciousness. The
toddler was rushed to the hospital, and later flown to an Orlando
hospital in critical condition, after doctors found opiates in his
system.The couple, identified as 34-year-old Kurt Vineis and
31-year-old Katrina Palmer, adamantly denied having any prescription
pills in the home, deputies say. After further questioning, Vineis
admitted to only having Xanax pills in the house. Investigators then got
a search warrant for the home, and they say no pills were found. Thats
when, according to investigators, Vineis finally explained that they
couple had hid their stash of pills in the trunk of their car.Volusia
County deputies say they found seven bottles containing four different
prescription pills in the trunk, including Oxycodone and Valium.
Deputies say the investigation into why the couple had so many pills is
still ongoing.Both Palmer and Vineis were arrested and charged
with child abuse and neglect. The toddler was in better condition on
Sunday and is expected to make a full recovery, according to officials.
