LAS VEGAS -- Friends
and family searching for a 15-year-old girl missing since Friday
discovered a badly-burned body in a desert area near her home Saturday
evening. As the coroner's office works to identify the victim Alyssa
Otremba's loved ones are praying it isn't her.

No one knows how the body got there or who it
might be but the fact is someone is dead and it's hitting this community
to its core.

"She said my phone is dying mom, she texted her
and said my phone is dying but I'm walking up Grand Teton and I will be
home in 30 minutes, that was the last we heard from her, said a family
friend who did not want to be identified.

That was Friday night and no one was heard from 15-year-old Alyssa Otremba since.

Antonio Morgan and others were searching for
Alyssa when he discovered a mysterious body near some brush in a desert
area near her home.

"It was a young girl, she was burned , laying
under the tree, upper body burned, her legs burned looking like she was
just put there," said Morgan.

"It's quite alarming that something of this
stature and this nature could have happened without anybody seeing it
whether it happened at night or during broad daylight." said Eddie
Pilawa, nearby neighbor.

The victim didn't have any clothes on. Alyssa's
mother Jennifer tells 8 News Now, she's hoping for the best. Like the
community, she too is waiting for the Clark County Coroner's office to
confirm the victim's identity.

"Let's hope it's not her daughter, but if it's not her daughter, whose daughter is it?" said Pilawa.

It's that question that has friends, family, even strangers stopping by the roadside memorial.

"We don't even know who this girl is at this point but there's a parent out there grieving," said Mary Flinn, lives near bye.

For Flinn kind sentiments and simple prayers are strength for a stranger that suffered.

"Her parents, her mom, her dad, her brothers her sisters, a senseless young life gone," said Flinn.

The coroner's office is expected to release the
victim's identity before Tuesday. Just four months ago a 17-year-old
girl was almost raped in this same area...her attacker was never caught.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - A neighborhood is speculating that a body
found badly burned in a vacant lot on Saturday is that of a 15-year-old
girl who disappeared on Friday.

Police say the body found near Grand Teton and Oso Blanca in the
northwest part of Las Vegas is possibly a young female, but they're not
identifying who it is at this time.

"That's scary, that's really scary," one neighbor said.

In one corner of the lot, a memorial is growing. There's a cross
draped with flowers and a card. The name inside the card is that of
15-year old Alyssa Otremba, who lives in the neighborhood. Alyissa
parent's reported her missing after she called them Friday evening to
say she would be home in half an hour and then never showed.

So far police are not connecting this body to her. Still people
dropped by throughout the day to leave a token of their sympathies.

"Just to pay my respects because I think its messed up," David Guerrero, who placed a rosary on the cross, says.

A 15-year old girl also dropped by the memorial. She told Action news
she had been attacked just a few yards away from where the body was
found. She says a man pulled her into the nearby tunnel where he
choked her until she passed out. She says fortunately for her, her
friends heard her screaming.

"As my back was turned form him he grabbed me from behind, just grabbed
my neck and dragged me further into the tunnel," the girl says.

She didn't to be identified, but says it happened six months ago and police never caught her attacker.

"A lot of stuff has been happening on this road and around this area and
I think its the same guy because they never found him," she says.

The girl's father contacted police to see if there's any connection
between the two crimes, but its still very early in the investigation.

-- Questions remain about the disappearance of a local high school
student and the discovery of a burned body found near the girl's home.

Arbor View High School freshman Alyssa
Otremba disappeared while walking home Friday night. The next day, teens
helping to search for Otremba found a female's body 30 yards away
from the missing girl's home. The victim's identity has yet to be
confirmed.

Otremba's friends, family and bandmates continue
to pray for her safe return. Evan Foley, also a freshman at Arbor View
High School, said he was shocked when he heard about Otremba's
disappearance. "It was really heartbreaking to find out she went
missing."

Although he had only spoken to her once since
school started a week ago, he came to pay his respects at a memorial
created for her. Otremba played the xylophone and base. All 135 band
members and their parents are rallying to support each other as the
family waits to get the results of the autopsy.

"It's great to see how united the band is. They
all came together and supported everybody. They're a family, they're
strong, they're united, even if they didn't know her, they're there,"
said Shannon Foley whose son is also in the school band.

Some of her friends hoped they'd find signs of
her in the desert area behind her house. Instead, they found a
half-naked burned body against a tree.

"You don't want your kids to see how cruel the
world can be, and this is a horrible," said Shannon Foley. "It's sick to
find out you live in a neighborhood where someone could violate your
child, what else could that person be capable of doing?"

Police have not said anything about this case and the coroner has not identified the body.

"It's heartbreaking, you never want your child
to go missing, not even for a second, and to have something like this
happen is beyond tragic. I hope they catch the person," said Foley.

Arbor View High School student Alyssa Otremba
was sexually assaulted before her death at the hands of a 19-year-old
man, according to Las Vegas Metro police.
The Clark County Coroner's Office ruled Tuesday that Otremba had been
stabbed to death. Authorities said her body was then set on fire and
dumped in a dirt lot on Oso Blanca Road and Grand Teton Drive.
Late Monday police announced the arrest of Javier Righetti, a man with no
prior connection to Otremba. He was charged with murder, sexual assault,
kidnapping and robbery with a deadly weapon.
An arrest report and Righetti's mugshot have not yet been released.

A man accused of murdering 15-year-old Alyssa Otremba allegedly
confessed to raping and stabbing her to death, then trying to destroy
evidence, according to an arrest report released Tuesday.
A tip from the girlfriend of one of Javier Righetti’s friends led
Metro Police detectives to Righetti's home in the 7900 block of Willow
Pines Place, near Grand Teton Drive and El Capitan Way. Police arrested
Righetti on Monday in connection with murder with a deadly weapon,
sexual assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnapping with a
deadly weapon and robbery with a deadly weapon.
On Monday, police confirmed that a burned body found Saturday in a
vacant northwest valley lot was that of Otremba, who had been reported
missing by her mother Friday after not returning home.
Otremba had sent her mother a text message about 6:30 p.m. Friday
that said, “I am on Grand Teton heading home, I will be home in 30 min.”
She never showed up, prompting her mother to report her daughter missing to police.
Family and friends searching for the girl Saturday located a burned,
unrecognizable body in a lot near U.S. 95 at Oso Blanca Road and Grand
Teton Drive. An autopsy by the coroner confirmed her identity Monday.
She had more than 40 stab wounds to the face, neck, chest, stomach
and thighs, according to the arrest report. An accelerant had been used to burn the body.
During the investigation, a woman called police because she thought
she had information about the girl’s murder. Detectives met with the
woman, who was the girlfriend of one of Righetti’s friends, on Monday,
according to the arrest report.
She told police that Righetti called her boyfriend numerous times
Friday night. Her boyfriend, Daniel Ortiz, finally answered his phone,
at which point Righetti allegedly told him he needed help, according to the arrest report.
Ortiz allegedly dropped his girlfriend off at her home because
Righetti wanted him to come alone, according to the police report.
Detectives then contacted Ortiz, who said Righetti told him that “he
had killed a young girl in the desert area,” police noted in the report.
Ortiz allegedly didn’t believe him, brushing the statement off as the
product of Righetti being high.
Ortiz, however, said he took Righetti to a 7-Eleven store on Durango
Drive to buy matches, according to the arrest report. Afterward,
Righetti allegedly ran across the street to an Albertson’s Express and
bought gasoline in a silver can, Ortiz told police.
Righetti had the can of gasoline and a small duffle bag with him when
he got to the car, but Ortiz told police he didn’t know what was in the bag.
Righetti allegedly asked Ortiz to drive him to the vacant lot near
Oso Blanca Road, according to the arrest report. Ortiz said Righetti
asked him to come with him, but Ortiz said he felt ill and left the scene.
Ortiz told police he had been avoiding Righetti’s calls ever since the incident, according to the arrest report.
When detectives served a search warrant at the house where Righetti lived, he surrendered to officers, police said.
Righetti allegedly confessed to another robbery and rape, in addition
to the kidnapping, rape and murder of Otremba, according to the arrest
report. He told detectives he followed Otremba to rob and rape her, then
he killed her with a kitchen knife from his house, police noted in the report.
Righetti is being held in the Clark County Detention Center without bail, according to jail records.
Friends and family have formed a makeshift memorial for Otremba at
the vacant lot where she was found. Otremba, a sophomore at Arbor View
High School, had been a band member and was described by friends as funny and nice.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) --- Metro Police Homicide Detectives arrested
19-year-old Javier Righetti on Monday night in connection with the
murder of Alyssa Otremba.

Otremba's body was found badly burned in a vacant lot near Grand Teton and Oso Blanca in Las Vegas on Saturday.

15-year-old Otremba was walking home near those cross streets on
Friday night when she called her mother and said she'd be home in 30
minutes.

The suspect, Righetti lives in the area on Durango and El Capitan.

His home is a mile and a half away from the desert lot where Otremba's burned body was found.

Detectives have ruled this homicide as a random act of violence on an
innocent victim, however Righetti does have prior offenses that Metro
has not released at this time.

Otremba died of blunt force trauma and multiple stab wounds.

"This is a 15-year old girl who was innocent and shouldn't be dead," Lew Roberts with Metro Homicide says.

Metro Police were able to arrest Righetti late Monday afternoon
because residents in the area reported seeing him leaving the desert lot
and driving away in his car.

The family of Otremba was notified late Monday evening.

Suspect Accused of Teen Girl's Murder Held Without Bail

LAS VEGAS -- The man accused of the rape and murder of a 15-year-old Las Vegas teen appeared in court for the first time Thursday. Javier Righetti made an initial appearance in front of a judge, and for the family and community grieving the loss of Alyssa Otremba, this is the first step in their long search for answers and justice.

Righetti appeared before Judge Conrad Hafen. He was denied bail until his preliminary hearing on October 14, 2011. He will spend the next month behind bars, where the friends and family of Otremba hope he'll spend the rest of his life.

Otremba's parents say they plan to be in court on October 14th, and for all of Righetti's hearings to make sure he can't do this to anyone else. Their only concern is dealing with having to relive their daughter's death in court.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office is also considering whether or not they will seek the death penalty in this case.

A Clark County grand jury indicted Javier Righetti Friday in the
brutal sexual assault and slaying of 15-year-old Alyssa Otremba over the Labor Day weekend.
Righetti, 19, also was charged in the March kidnapping and sexual assault of
another 15-year-old girl who survived the attack.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Christopher Lalli said in court as the
indictment was returned that Righetti admitted torturing Otremba while
stabbing her in the face and other parts of her body more than 80 times.
In his "elaborate" confession, Righetti told police that he carved the
initials "LV" on the Arbor View High School freshman's body because he
"wanted to look more like a gangster," Lalli said.
Otremba's burned body was discovered Sept. 3 in a vacant lot along the route she
took between home and school in the northwest valley.
Righetti, who has a history of violence, was charged with a total of 10 felony
counts in the two attacks, including murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and armed robbery.
His arraignment was set for Oct. 20 before District Judge Michelle Leavitt.
District Attorney David Roger said Friday his office is considering seeking the
death penalty for Righetti, who is being held on no bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie has described Righetti as a "predator" who will be held accountable for his crimes.
The Otremba killing was a random act and Righetti and the victim did not know each other, police have said.
Righetti was arrested at his home on the 7900 block of Willow Pines Drive,
minutes from Alyssa's home and less than a mile from the vacant lot where her body was found.
Police tracked down Righetti through his friend, Daniel Ortiz.
Ortiz told detectives Righetti called him about 12:30 a.m. Sept. 3 and said
he had killed a girl during a robbery. Ortiz reported that he gave
Righetti a ride to a convenience store where Righetti bought gasoline and matches.
Ortiz then drove Righetti to the vacant lot on Grand
Teton Drive and Tee Pee Lane. Ortiz told detectives he "felt like he was
going to throw up" and left. Later, Ortiz's girlfriend called police
after she learned of the missing girl and became suspicious of Righetti.
