FORT WAYNE, Ind.—

A sheriff says a missing 9-year-old girl in Fort
Wayne had been staying with a family friend when she disappeared on Friday.

Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries says Aliahna Lemmon and her
sisters ages 6 and 8 had been at the friend's home for about a week
since their mother was ill. Fries tells WANE-TV (http://bit.ly/uFtOCx)
that Aliahna has vision and hearing troubles along with attention
deficit disorder and other emotional problems.

Fries says police believe Aliahna was last in the home between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday. He says
miscommunication between the friend and the girl's mother possibly led to police not being called until about 8:45 p.m.

Numerous emergency workers are searching Saturday around a mobile home park on Fort Wayne's north side where the friend lives.

Sheriff reveals info about missing girl

Updated: Saturday, 24 Dec 2011, 3:05 PM EST
Published : Saturday, 24 Dec 2011, 8:26 AM EST
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- UPDATE:
Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries gave an update on the search for a
missing nine-year-old girl Saturday including what happened Friday night
and who police are currently questioning.

Fries said Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon and her two sisters, ages six and eight,
had been staying at the home of one of her mother’s friends in the
Northway trailer park near Clinton Street and Diebold Road for about a
week since their mother had been ill.

The friend told police Lemmon had fallen asleep in a chair in her clothes, not pajamas Thursday
night. Police said she was last seen wearing a blue and black plaid
coat with fur around the hood, a silver and white sweater dress with
white tights and black shoes with bows.

She was still at his home around 6 a.m. Friday, but at 10 a.m. he saw a pile of her clothes
by that chair and assumed she was still there.
Police believe she left the home on foot between those times.

Fries said there must have been some kind of miscommunication between the
friend and the girl’s mother about where she was because a call about
the girl being missing didn’t come in until 8:40 p.m.

Now, a five mile radius wide search is underway for Lemmon.
Indiana State Police are conducting an aerial search with their helicopter, the
Fort Wayne Fire Department’s Dive Team is searching nearby ponds,
bloodhounds have been brought in to search the area as well. Fries said
they can track scents up to several weeks old. The Federal Bureau of
Investigation has also been brought in to help re-interview the mother,
her friend, the girl’s stepfather and her two sisters.

Emergency responders from surrounding areas including St. Joe Township, Woodburn and Poe have also joined in the search.
So far, Fries said they are not ruling any possibility of what could have
happened to the girl out, including foul play. There have not been any
custody, abuse or neglect issues in the past, but family members said
the girl is partially blind, has hearing problems and suffers from Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Activity
Disorder and Oppositional Defiant with Conduct Disorder.
Police have also checked out the possible involvement of several sex offenders
who live in the area, but based on the information they learned from
them, they are not suspects at this point.

Police command posts were set up Saturday morning at the Value Gas station at 10300 Old Leo
Road and in Apple Valley mobile home park for the search and have
obtained surveillance video from the Marathon gas station across from the post.
Indiana State Police have not issued an Amber Alert for
Lemmon. Fries said this situation does not meet the criteria required
in order to issue one. That usually involves a suspected vehicle
description, and that is not information they have.
Search teams are going door-to-door and checking out fields and abandoned buildings for the girl.
Fries said nine years old is typically too young to be a runaway, especially
around Christmastime and said search teams will work until they find
Lemmon, even if that is through the holiday.
Fries is discouraging people wanting to help search for girl because that negatively affects the ISP aerial search.
Lemmon is described as a white female, 41 pounds 4' tall, Blonde hair, blue
eyes, hair just past her shoulders. She has a birthmark on the back of
her neck and she has many freckles on her face. Her birthday is 04/02/02.
Aliahna answers to Aliahna, Ailey and Ana.

Police Still Searching for Missing 9-Year-Old Girl

ALIAHNA LEMMON - 9 yo - Fort Wayne IN Aliahna+Lemmon
Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon, 9 yrs. old

December 25, 2011

Updated Dec 25, 2011 at 3:55 PM EST

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) —
Police are still searching for 9-year-old Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon
from Fort Wayne. Lemmon has been missing since late Friday night, early Saturday morning.

This isn't the Merry Christmas one Fort Wayne family had hoped for.

“We want to find her, get her home for Christmas well, safe, sound and happy,” said Elizabeth Sepponen, family member.

Nine-year-old Aliahna Lemmon of Fort Wayne has been missing since late Friday night, early
Saturday morning. Police say she was last seen in the Northway trailer park around Clinton Street and Diebold Road.

Aliahna’s grandpa died earlier this month. Sepponen says the family hasn't been coping very
well and her cousin, Tara, also Aliahna’s mother, has been very ill.
Sepponene says Aliahna and her two younger sisters have been in the care
of a neighbor for the past couple weeks while Tara recovers. Police say
Aliahna was last reported sleeping in a chair at the neighbor’s house
before she went missing. Sepponen said when Tara called to check up on
her daughters, the neighbor realized Aliahna was missing.

“The babysitter thought that she had gone home to Tara. So nobody realized, because of the
miscommunication, that she had actually been missing for a few hours,” Sepponen said. “Tara’s pretty freaked out.”

Police interviewed neighbors and family members all weekend. Aliahna lives in a trailer
home with her mother and step-father in a neighborhood where 15
registered sex offenders also live. However, Sheriff Fries says they’ve
already gone to each offender’s house and interviewed them. He says none of them are suspects.

“We're not going to rule out anything as far as foul play. Maybe she's just at a friend's house,”
said Ken Fries, Allen County Sheriff. “We're hoping somebody sees this and says, 'Oh Aliahna's at our house, come get her.'”

Aliahna also goes by the names “Ailey” and “Ana,” and Sepponen says she is partially blind and
deaf and suffers from mood and conduct disorders. Sepponen suspects she ran away.

“They're not quite sure where she went or what was in her mind at the time,” Sepponen said.

But Sheriff Fries says that’s unlikely. “Nine is young to be running away, especially when you
couple that with Christmas,” Sheriff Fries said.

Sheriff Fries says the FBI, fire departments, and city, county, and state police are searching
for the missing girl. Officers are using everything they can to find
her...boats, planes, K-9 units, ATVs and man power—everything except an
Amber Alert.

“Justifiably so, if they
put Amber Alerts out for every missing child or possible run away or
anything, nobody would pay attention to them. So there's certain
criteria that have to be met for an Amber Alert,” Sheriff Fries said.

According to amberalert.gov, an Amber Alert will not be issued unless: there is
reasonable belief abduction has occurred, police believe the child is in
imminent danger, there is enough information about the description and
abduction of the child, the child is 17 or younger, and the child's name
has been entered into the national crime information center. Sheriff
Fries says this particular case meets none of these criteria.

Sheriff Fries does not encourage people to help in the search because it could add confusion to
officers who are searching. But, that hasn’t stopped Sepponen and her family.

“My sister and I are out handing out flyers, we have relatives that are out, people from our churches,” she said.

Even Facebook pages have been created and dedicated to finding Aliahna. So far there's over 1,450 “Likes” and “Shares.”

According to the police report, Aliahna was last wearing a white and silver sweater dress with
white tights (as shown in the picture), a black and blue plaid coat with
fur around the hood, and black shoes with bows. She's 4 ft. tall, 41
lbs., has freckles, and has a birth mark on the back of her neck. The
Allen County Sheriff says police are still unsure of Aliahna’s whereabouts.

“We're just doing the best we can,” Sepponen said.

“I think everybody's goal is to find her and get her home,” Sheriff Fries said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

The family friend who was watching a
9-year-old Fort Wayne girl missing since Friday says her disappearance
wasn't noticed for hours because her younger sisters said she left with
their mother.
More than 100 emergency
workers conducted an unsuccessful search Saturday for Aliahna Lemmon
around the mobile home park on Fort Wayne's north side where she was
last seen. No active search was done on Sunday.

Aliahna and her sisters
were staying at Mike Plumadore's home because their mother was ill.
Plumadore tells The Journal Gazette (http://bit.ly/t4WR6h ) that he found his deadbolted door unlocked about 10 a.m. Friday and Aliahna gone.

Tarah Souders says her
daughter has attention deficit disorder and other emotional problems but
hasn't wandered off before. Aliahna's grandmother says she has a
history of sleepwalking.

FBI joins search for missing Indiana girl
By TOM LOBIANCO Associated Press Writer The Associated Press

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — The FBI joined the search for a missing 9-year-old Indiana girl with physical and emotional problems Monday as agents descended on the mobile home park where she lived and that's a known haven for registered sex offenders.

Authorities in Fort Wayne planned to meet Monday afternoon to plan their next move after two straight days without a search for Aliahna Lemmon, who has been missing since Friday, said Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel, a spokesman for the Allen County sheriff's department.

The FBI joined the search for a missing 9-year-old Indiana girl with
physical and emotional problems Monday as agents descended on the mobile
home park where she lived and that's a known haven for registered sex
offenders.

About a half-dozen people in black windbreakers, several of whom
identified themselves as FBI agents, were at the mobile home park Monday
where Aliahna Lemmon went missing from a family friend's home on
Friday. Some with search dogs were seen at a nearby storage facility.

Monday's renewed search came a day after local police declined to search
Sunday. Allen County sheriff's department officials also originally had
not planned to search Monday either, unless new leads arose through
tips from the public or interviews, Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel, a department
spokesman, said earlier in the day.

Local police haven't said what they think happened to Aliahna.

Meanwhile, agents at the scene Monday wouldn't say why the FBI was
involved. An agency spokesman didn't immediately return phone calls and
e-mails seeking comment.

More than 100 emergency workers conducted an extensive search Saturday
for Aliahna around the rundown mobile home park on Fort Wayne's north
side where she was last seen. No active search was done Sunday for the
girl.

According to a state website, 15 registered sex offenders live at the mobile home park that numbers about two dozen homes.

Elizabeth Watkins, 52, who has lived at the park for six months with her
4-year-old granddaughter, said it's well-known that several sex
offenders live in the neighborhood.

"It's scary," she said. "I don't know how a parent could leave their child alone."

Aliahna's mother, Tarah Souders, 28, told The Journal Gazette her
daughter has vision and hearing problems and suffers from attention
deficit disorder and emotional problems. She also has a history of
sleepwalking, family members said.

Aliahna and her sisters were staying at a family friend's nearby home
because their mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna's stepfather
works at night and sleeps during the day, The Journal Gazette reported
Monday.

Mike Plumadore, 39, told the newspaper Sunday that he left the three
girls in his mobile home about 6 a.m. Friday and went to a gas station
about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store's
surveillance video shows him there about that time.

"I had deadbolted the door," he said. "When I got back, all the girls was here."

He said he smoked his cigar and went back to sleep, then woke up about
10 a.m. when Aliahna's mother called. After that call, he realized the
door to the home was unlocked and that Aliahna was gone. He said
Aliahna's sisters, both 6 years old, told him that Aliahna had left with
her mom.

Plumadore said it wasn't until he talked with Aliahna's mom about 8:30
p.m. that they realized she was missing and police were notified.

Plumadore is not listed on the state's website that lists registered sex offenders.

Tarah Souders said miscommunication between the two of them caused the delay in determining that Aliahna had vanished.

"She's never wandered off," Souders said. "She's never done anything like this before."

But Aliahna does have a history of sleepwalking, even unlocking doors
and going outside while sleeping, said her grandmother, Amber Story.

"I just hope that she's not suffering or in pain," Story said.

Souders said her daughter also has vision and hearing problems and
suffers from attention deficit disorder and emotional problems.

I have an awful feeling about this little girl. It seems counter-intuitive to have people stop looking unless its for a very limited time for overhead searches. They have stopped searching for two days according to the Windstream link above and the FBI has stepped in. I get that its the holidays, but this is a missing young girl and two days is an eternity in abduction/missing cases. Why are the two six year olds saying that she left with her mom? What more do they know? Were they threatened? Why is the babysitter making a cigar run at 6am? No comment from LE? Search dogs? Storage facility? Sex offenders concentrated? I think that LE is already aware of what has happened or very certain of the results or they would still be searching relentlessly. All, IMHO.

ALIAHNA LEMMON - 9 yo - Fort Wayne IN Empty Re: ALIAHNA LEMMON - 9 yo - Fort Wayne IN

http://nancygrace.blogs.cnn.com/2011/12/26/grandmother-missing-girl-may-have-sleepwalked-away-from-neighbors-home/?hpt=ng_t1

Police are trying to sort out the facts surrounding the disappearance of a 9-year-old Indiana girl two days before Christmas.

Amber Story, the grandmother of Aliahna Lemmon, told HLN’s Nancy Grace in an interview airing Monday night that she believes the girl could have sleepwalked out of a neighbor’s Fort Wayne home early Friday morning and been taken.

According to Story, 9-year-old Aliahna and her two sisters were staying with a neighbor, Michael Plumadore, while her mother recovered from the flu. Aliahna suffered from night terrors and Plumadore was up for much of the night comforting her, Story said. Around 6 am, after she fell asleep, he left his mobile home to go buy a cigar.

When Plumadore returned, he believed all of the girls were still sleeping. He went to sleep and woke up around 10, at which point the 6-year-old sisters told him Aliahna’s mother, Tarah Souders, had picked her up. Story said that miscommunication between Plumadore and Souders led to a 10-hour gap before anyone realized Aliahna was missing and they called police around 8:30 pm.

Story said Plumadore is a close family friend who cared for Aliahna’s grandfather for two years before his death earlier this month. He has a few felony convictions in his past, but none appear to involve crimes against children.

“I have no qualms in saying Mike would not hurt any of those children,” Story said “…The only blame is to the person who took her.”

Still, she acknowledged that it was probably a mistake for Plumadore to leave the children alone. Story said Aliahna’s mother’s trailer has a deadbolt that is high enough that the girl cannot reach it but Plumadore’s does not, and Aliahna is capable of unlocking and opening a door in her sleep. The girl suffers from partial hearing loss and partial blindness, according to Story, but she has gotten out of her home while sleepwalking before.

Story said police have questioned Aliahna’s whole family—including the young girls—in addition to Plumadore and other neighbors. According to the Journal Gazette, there are 15 sex offenders in the mobile home park where her mother and Plumadore live, and police have spoken to all of them.

Story told Grace that search dogs picked up Aliahna’s scent going from Plumadore’s home to a bus stop but her trail then vanished. The bus stop is on the side of a busy road and Story speculated that someone may have abducted her from there.

Police told reporters Monday that they have no new leads or suspects in Aliahna’s disappearance, but they are working on the case around the clock, according to WPTA.

Sheriff: Missing girl found dead Monday evening, suspect charged with murder

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have released information on missing 9-year-old Aliahna Lemmon.

Investigators revealed in a Monday evening press conference that the body of Lemmon was discovered after police interviewed the man she was staying with for the past week.

Police have arrested Michael Plumadore, 39, Fort Wayne, and charged him with murder. He’s due to be arraigned in court Tuesday morning. Plumadore was a friend of the family, according to police.

Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said, “Unfortunately tonight, the search came to a conclusion we’d hoped wouldn’t happen. After three different interviews with one of the individuals involved, he was taken into custody tonight about 9 p.m. and charged with murder.”

Oh, Imflo, I was hoping you wouldn't find the confirmation even as I was reading your links. Here is one I went to from one of yours. It says the grandfather was a convicted child molester also and was charged, I believe, in 2006. Has photo also. You'd think Aliahna's mother would not have trusted a guy who lived with a the child molesting grandfather for two years, if all of this is true. So very sad.

There is some sort of tape around the trailer and a dumpster. LE said that she was found well-within the 1 mile radius that such circumstances usually develop. Sick bastard! She didn't even get the happiness of Christmas! This murdering man is a devil and had better hope that God has more compassion on him than I do right now. villagers villagers villagers villagers villagers villagers

children are a gift-how can anyone do this to a child? how can we get their attention and make them stop doing this to these precious beings? the answer is out there somewhere. children are not to be abused and thrown away like trash. they are our lifeline. these stories hurt me to my core.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The neighbor who was babysitting a 9-year-old Indiana girl when she went missing last week will be formally charged with murder Tuesday, a heartbreaking turn for the girl’s relatives who considered him a family friend.

Authorities said Monday night that Aliahna Lemmon had been found dead and Mike Plumadore, who was watching Aliahna and her two sisters when she went missing Friday, was being held on a murder charge. He and Aliahna’s family lived in the same mobile home park in Fort Wayne.

“He was a trusted family friend,” Aliahna’s step-grandfather, David Story, told The Associated Press late Monday, saying he was surprised by the arrest.

Plumadore, 39, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

He was arrested after being interviewed by police, Allen County sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said. Investigators said Aliahna’s body was found in the northeastern Indiana county, but no details were released.

On Monday, FBI agents descended on the rundown mobile home park where Aliahna lived and was last seen. It’s a known haven for registered sex offenders, though Plumadore is not on Indiana’s registered sex offenders list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that includes convictions for trespassing and assault.

No active search was done Sunday for Aliahna, though more than 100 emergency workers searched for her Saturday around the mobile home park. Tinkel said the same size search could not be sustained because of the Christmas holiday.

Aliahna’s mother, Tarah Souders, told The Journal Gazette on Sunday that her daughter had vision, hearing and emotional problems and suffered from attention deficit disorder. Aliahna and her sisters were staying with Plumadore because their mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna’s stepfather works at night and sleeps during the day.

Plumadore told the newspaper Sunday that he left the three girls in his mobile home about 6 a.m. Friday and went to a gas station about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store’s surveillance video shows him there about that time.

“I had dead-bolted the door,” he said. “When I got back, all the girls was here.”

He said he smoked his cigar and went back to sleep, then woke up about 10 a.m. when Aliahna’s mother called. After that call, he realized the door to the home was unlocked and that Aliahna was gone. He said Aliahna’s 6-year-old sisters told him Aliahna had left with her mother.

Plumadore said it wasn’t until he talked with Aliahna’s mother about 8:30 p.m. that they realized she was missing and police were notified. Souders said the miscommunication caused the delay in determining that Aliahna had vanished.

“She’s never wandered off,” she said Sunday.

Elizabeth Watkins, who lives nearby, said residents are cautious and keep to themselves in part because of the number of sex offenders living in the mobile home park. According to a state website, 15 registered sex offenders live in the park that numbers about two dozen homes. Watkins and she didn’t know Plumadore and was shocked when told of the girl’s death.

“I’m numb, I’m totally numb. I don’t know what to think,” she said.

A missing 9-year-old Indiana girl has
been found dead, and the family friend who was watching her before she
disappeared was charged Monday night with murder, authorities said.

Allen County sheriff's spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said
investigators found the body of Aliahna Lemmon in the county, but he
wouldn't say where. He also said 39-year-old Mike Plumadore was
"interviewed by police and taken into custody at 9 p.m. and charged with
murder."

Plumadore, who had been watching Aliahna and her sisters before she
was reported missing late Friday, is scheduled to appear in court
Tuesday.(See more on the Casey Anthony case.)

Earlier Monday, FBI agents descended on the rundown mobile home park
in Fort Wayne where Aliahna lived. It's a known haven for registered sex
offenders, though Plumadore isn't on Indiana's registered sex offenders
list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that
includes convictions for trespassing and assault.

More than 100 emergency workers searched Saturday for Aliahna around
the mobile home park, where she was last seen. No active search was done
Sunday for the girl, but search dogs and FBI agents were at the park
and the girl's home on Monday.

According to a state website, 15 registered sex offenders live at the mobile home park that numbers about two dozen homes.

Aliahna's mother, Tarah Souders, 28, told The Journal Gazette earlier
Monday that her daughter had vision and hearing problems and suffered
from attention deficit disorder and emotional problems. Aliahna and her
sisters were staying at a family friend's nearby home because their
mother had been sick with the flu and Aliahna's stepfather works at
night and sleeps during the day.

Plumadore told the newspaper Sunday that he left the three girls in
his mobile home about 6 a.m. Friday and went to a gas station about a
mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store's surveillance
video shows him there about that time.(See more on a new child abuse law in the U.S.)

"I had dead-bolted the door," he said. "When I got back, all the girls was here."

He said he smoked his cigar and went back to sleep, then woke up
about 10 a.m. when Aliahna's mother called. After that call, he realized
the door to the home was unlocked and that Aliahna was gone. He said
Aliahna's 6-year-old sisters told him Aliahna had left with her mom.

Plumadore said it wasn't until he talked with Aliahna's mom about
8:30 p.m. that they realized she was missing and police were notified.

Tarah Souders said miscommunication between the two of them caused the delay in determining that Aliahna had vanished.

"She's never wandered off," Souders said. "She's never done anything like this before."

Police: Babysitter beat, dismembered Indiana girl
TOM LOBIANCO, Associated Press
Updated 10:14 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2011

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A babysitter and trusted neighbor has confessed that he bludgeoned a 9-year-old Indiana girl to death with a brick then dismembered her, hiding her head, hands and feet at his home and dumping the rest of her remains nearby, police said Tuesday.

Allen County sheriff's investigators said in an affidavit that 39-year-old Michael Plumadore admits he killed Aliahna Lemmon on Dec. 22.

According to the affidavit, Plumadore told police that after beating Aliahna to death, he stuffed her body into trash bags and hid her in the freezer at his trailer. He said he later chopped up her body and stuffed her remains into freezer bags.

Police said Plumadore told them he had hidden Aliahna's head, feet and hands at his trailer and that he had discarded her other remains at a nearby business. Police obtained a warrant to search his trailer on Monday and found the body parts.

A judge ordered Plumadore held without bail or bond at an initial hearing Tuesday, sheriff's department spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said. He has yet to be formally charged in Aliahna's death.

Aliahna and her two younger sisters were staying with Plumadore because their mother had been sick with the flu.

Plumadore told The Journal Gazette on Sunday that Aliahna disappeared from his home Friday morning while he was sleeping after having gone to a gas station about a mile away to buy a cigar. Authorities have said the store's surveillance video shows him there about that time.

More than 100 emergency workers searched for her Saturday around the rundown mobile home park where Aliahna and Plumadore lived and FBI agents were there Monday.

A state website shows that 15 registered sex offenders live in the park that numbers about two dozen homes. Plumadore is not on Indiana's registered sex offenders list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that includes convictions for trespassing and assault.

Aren't there on call judges who can issue warrants on the weekends and holidays? Why did this take until Monday to get a warrant? Suspect mad1

What about the other girls? What did they see and why were they saying Aliahna was with their mother? Where are they right now? What did this evil demon do to them? villagers

I'll wait for more info before deciding about the mother and give her the benefit of the doubt, but would she really expect a close family friend to bludgeon and dismember and separate her daughter into freezer bags? scared tears This must be unbearable for her (again, the benefit of the doubt). tears swoon

And, God help LE and FBI involved in this developing horror on the Christmas holiday! pray
