ROSEVILLE, CA - The mother of a 2 year old who died in Roseville
Wednesday was arrested the same night, according to the Roseville Police Dept.

STORY: Roseville police investigate death of 2 year old

Denise Marie Wilder, 37, of Roseville, was arrested on suspicion of
homicide and child endangerment, said officer Dee Dee Gunther.

According to Wilder's former sister-in-law, Joni Starratt, Wilder and
her children disappeared on Sunday but were not reported missing until
Wednesday by Wilder's parents.

It was around that time a family friend went to check on the welfare of
Wilder and the children, discovered the toddler was not breathing, and
contacted police, said Gunther.

Emergency personnel responded to the home on the 300 block of Diamond
Oaks Road around 5:07 p.m. Upon arrival, the toddler was declared dead
and Wilder was under the influence, Gunther said.

Wilder's other child, a 5-year-old girl, was taken by Child Protective
Services after being medically cleared. She was later released to
family, said Gunther.

Wilder and her husband divorced in December 2011 and Wilder was awarded
primary custody of their two children, said Starratt.

Wilder's ex-husband Mark Wilder wrote on his Facebook page Thursday
morning, "Thank you all. The system allowed this beautiful baby girl to
be killed. Your love means so much to her big sister Kennedy and myself.
I love everyone of you."

Then in a later post, Wilder wrote, "My ex-wife has been formally
charged with murder. She is sitting in the county jail, pending
arraignment, NO BAIL. This woman murdered her own 2 year old daughter."

Roseville police served a search warrant at Denise Wilder's home on
the 1400 block of Everett Way in Roseville Thursday morning.

A mother-of-two embroiled in a bitter fight for the custody of her children was charged
in the murder of one daughter, aged two.

Denise Wilder, 37, was arrested on Wednesday after police found her drunk and
daughter McKinley dead at a home in Roseville, California.

The business analyst was reported missing on Wednesday afternoon by her
concerned family who said they had not seen her since Sunday.

Horrific: The dead body of McKinley Wilder, 2, (left) was found by her five-year-old sister, Kennedy
A family member later found the body at the Diamond Oaks Road home
belonging to her parents who were out of town. According to News10.com
it was her sister, Kennedy, five.

The girls' father, Mark Wilder, 43, wrote on Facebook: 'McKinley is no longer with us.
Kennedy is now with me. The police have taken the suspect into custody.

'I cannot say anymore…and sadly, I don’t know anymore, except Kennedy is
one scared little 5 year old that misses her baby sister. She found Mickey.'

Wilder and her estranged husband had been engaged in a nasty battle over
McKinley and her five-year-old sister, with Wilder being given initial custody.

Mark, an Army master sergeant of 27 years, said his ex-wife had a history of
alcohol abuse. In court documents he wrote: 'Night after night Denise
would drink a bottle of wine or half a bottle of vodka.'

He said the children were often dirty and complained of hunger when he picked them up from their mother.

Mark Wilder unsuccessfully ran for the Area 1 seat of the Placer County Board of Education in 2010.

Speaking at the time he told the Roseville Press Tribune: 'I am running because I
want to make sure the schools are the best they can be before my daughters enter school.'

He cited his leadership skills and responsibility as reasons why he should
be elected, adding that he would be willing to give up his military career.

Wilder's family and friends described Mark as abusive and full of rage, adding
that he led a double life meeting women online and had a dominatrix fetish.

The couple's divorce was finalised in 2011 amid continuing child custody feuds.
Authorities said they had concerns about the girls being subjected to
abuse if Wilder and her husband could not find a way to co-parent peacefully.

Following Wednesday’s tragedy Kennedy was taken into custody by the Child
Protection Service, before being reunited with her father on Thursday.

Searches were carried out at both the grandparent’s home and the property Wilder rented on Everett Way.

Police carried out bags of evidence but would not discuss what they had found.

A neighbour of Wilder’s parents told the Sacramento Bee: ‘I was like “What the hell is going on there”.'

'It's sad. You have a 2-year-old passes away. Any neighborhood can have a tragedy.’

Helene Miller, who lives close to Wilder’s rental, said the 37-year-old kept
herself to herself but seemed polite, adding she had noticed that Mark was no longer around.

'They seemed happy, then all of a sudden, they weren't,’ she said.

Wilder was booked into the Placer County jail in Auburn and denied bail.

She faces child neglect and murder charges, though it is unclear exactly what lead to the child’s death.

Dee Dee Gunther, a spokeswoman for the Roseville Police Department, said:
‘I understand that people want answers because it's a very tragic thing,
but people are going to have to wait for the proper time and place.’

Roseville mom Denise Wilder is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Monday in Auburn on charges that she murdered her 2-year-old daughter McKinley Wilder.

Wilder is also facing child neglect charges. The reading of the
formal charges is set to take place in the courtroom adjacent to the
jail, where she has been held since Wednesday without bail.

Neither the Roseville Police Department nor the Placer County District Attorney's
office have offered details about the child's death other than to say
Wilder was intoxicated and that the death was suspicious.

Wilder was arrested at around 5 p.m. Wednesday when authorities
discovered the unresponsive toddler along with Wilder at her parents'
residence on the 300 block of Diamond Oaks Road. Wilder's 5-year-old has been placed with her family pending a child custody hearing.

A Placer County judge ordered a Roseville mother arrested on suspicion
of killing her 2-year-old daughter to be released from jail after the
prosecutor told the judge no criminal charges have been filed Monday.Roseville police arrested Denise Wilder on Thursday on suspicion of murder and child endangerment charges. When
officers arrived at a home last week, called by a family friend of
Wilder's, they said they found the toddler dead and the mother drunk.Police haven't said how the girl might have died.Jess
Bedore, Wilder's attorney, told KCRA3 that the absence of charges
before the mother's initial court appearance Monday afternoon was proof
the police department does not have enough evidence to prove Wilder
committed a crime. However, the Roseville police department said it is standing behind its actions."Based
on the suspcious circumstances surrounding this death, we had probable
cause to make an arrest," said DeeDee Gunther, a Roseville police
spokeswoman. In an email sent to KCRA3, the Placer County District
Attorney's office explained that further testing is needed before a
formal decision can be made on criminal charges in this case."Prior
to making a final charging decision in this case, it is necessary to
have the final report from the Placer County Coroner's Office. That
report will not be released until further forensic testing is complete,"
read the email.A judge ordered Wilder to return to court on May 8.

Judge orders stay-away for Roseville mother of deceased toddler

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012, 9:27am

ROSEVILLE, CA - A Roseville mother who was held in jail on suspicion of murder in her toddler's death has now been ordered to stay away from her other child.

Denise Wilder, of Roseville, was arrested on April 4 after emergency responders found Wilder's two-year-old daughter, McKinley Gail Wilder, dead inside a home on the 300 block of Diamond Oaks Road.

More: Mother of dead Roseville toddler arrested on suspicion of homicide

Wilder's ex-husband, Mark Wilder, petitioned the court for a temporary restraining order against Denise Wilder for the protection of himself and his daughter, Kennedy, who was also in the home at time of McKinley's discovery.

The temporary restraining order requires Denise Wilder to stay away from the funeral and/or memorial service.

The order also grants Mark Wilder control of his children's property "not deemed evidence in the murder investigation," according to the temporary restraining order.

Wilder was released on her own recognizance from the Placer County jail on April 10.

The District Attorney's office is waiting for the final coroner's report to determine if any formal charges will be filed.

Restraining order against Roseville mother extended

12:34 AM, Apr 20, 2012

ROSEVILLE, CA - During a child custody hearing on Thursday, a Placer
County judge extended a restraining order against a Roseville mother who
was held in custody on suspicion of murder in her toddler's death,
according to attorney Mike Haskell of Once Dad Always Dad, an
organization that supports divorced or unwed fathers.

Denise Wilder was arrested April 4 after Roseville police found her
2-year-old daughter McKinley dead inside a Roseville home on the 300
block of Diamond Oaks Road.

Wilder was released on her own recognizance from the Placer County
Jail on April 10. The District Attorney's office is waiting for the
final coroner's report to determine if any formal charges will be filed.

Under the order, Wilder must not have any contact with her 5-year-old
daughter or ex-husband Mark Wilder and she does not have any parent
visitation rights, according to Haskell.

Haskell, who represented Mark Wilder during the child custody hearing
via telephone conference, said the first review of the restraining
order, if necessary, is scheduled for June 22.

Roseville spokeswoman DeeDee Gunther said investigators are still waiting for the toddler's autopsy results.

Denise Wilder did not have any comment as she left the hearing on Thursday.

The father of the Roseville woman briefly jailed on suspicion of
killing her daughter is out on bail following his own weekend
incarceration on federal child porn charges.
Daniel McGrath, 58, arrested Friday on federal charges of possession of child pornography,
was released Monday after posting $200,000 bond and surrendering his passport.
His daughter, Denise McGrath Wilder, remains the prime
suspect in the April 4 death of her toddler, McKinley Wilder. No charges
have been filed, pending results of a toxicology report.
"They seem to be pretty aged," the father's attorney, Mark Reichel,
said of the material found at McGrath's home.
In asking the court to grant McGrath's release on bail, Reichel argued
that the most damning material – video from hidden cameras within the
home – are at least 18 years old.
He noted that the family is holding together.
"There is no fracturing in this family," Reichel said.
Wilder was in court taking notes and comforting her mother as her father sat
wearing an orange jail jumpsuit. Mother and daughter left the court
building without making a statement. They declined previous interview requests.
Wilder's attorney, Jess Bedore, said he had no knowledge
of the case against McGrath and couldn't say whether or how it affects his case.
Wilder, 37, was arrested April 4 at her father's Diamond
Oaks Road home after her 2-year-old daughter, McKinley, was found dead
in the early stages of decomposition. The mother was reportedly
intoxicated and could not explain what happened to her daughter, according to the complaint.
Mark Wilder, her ex-husband, was granted custody of the couple's 5-year-old daughter.
McGrath and his wife were vacationing in Mexico at the time of the incident,
Roseville officials said. And it was McGrath who first notified police
that Denise Wilder had been out of contact for several days.
"He is not a suspect in the death of McKinley," said Sgt. Darin DeFreece of
the Roseville Police Department. "We did look into when he was gone and when he came back."
But it was during the course of the
investigation of McKinley's death that Roseville Police Department
sought and received a warrant to search McGrath's home.
"You are going to go on (the computer) and see some underage stuff,"
McGrath told investigators in a videotaped interview.
McGrath told investigators that he did not distribute the material and
that it was from a user group from years ago.
The material on a hard drive, which was not connected to McGrath's computer
at the time of the search, was created between 2002 and 2009. The hard
drive was most recently accessed on March 31, according to a forensic
analysis of the computer.
Reichel said that just because the hard drive was plugged in doesn't mean McGrath viewed the material.
The VHS home movies taken with hidden cameras depict females,
apparently minors, in various states of undress.
Possession of child pornography carries a sentence of 10 years. Should McGrath be
found guilty of producing child pornography, it would carry a more severe penalty.

I find this an interesting tidbit of family history. Kind of like Josh Powell's father.

Roseville woman jailed in daughter's death investigation
Posted: Saturday, June 16, 2012 - Roseville Police
McKINLEY GAIL WILDER - 2 yo/ Accused: Mother-Denise Wilder - Roseville CA 10764-denise%20wilder.jpg
At 6:10 p.m. Friday, June 15, Roseville Police detectives
arrested Denise Marie McGrath Wilder, age 37, of Roseville on suspicion
of cruelty to a child by abuse, neglect or endangering health under
circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death, in violation
of California Penal Code secion 273a(a).

This is in
connection with the death of her two-year-old daughter, McKinley
Wilder. There are special allegations that will be filed with this
charge, pursuant to Penal Code section 12022.7(d), stating that it is
further alleged that in the commission of the above offense that the
defendant personally inflicted great bodily injury upon a child under
the age of five (5) years old.

Wilder is also being charged with child abuse or endangerment under
circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death in connection
with the abuse and neglect of her other daughter. Wilder is being held
without bail in the Placer County Jail.

On the afternoon of April 4, Roseville Police and Roseville Fire
personnel responded to a home on Diamond Oaks Road, to a report of a
child not breathing. The first responders confirmed that the child,
two-year-old McKinley Wilder, was deceased. Denise Wilder was the only
adult present with the children, and it was confirmed that she'd had
sole custody and care of McKinley and her four-year-old sister over the
previous few days. Based on probable cause, which included the
condition of McKinley's body and the extreme intoxication of her mother,
officers arrested Denise Wilder on suspicion of murder. The
four-year-old child was released to children's protective authorities.

The Placer County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy, but wasn't
able to immediately establish the cause of McKinley's death, pending the
results of toxicology and other tests. Wilder was released from
custody pending the completion of the autopsy report and determination
of the cause of death. The Coroner's Office has now completed the
report and determined that McKinley died due to acute alcohol toxicity
and acute malnutrition.

Based on the autopsy report and the Roseville Police Department's
investigation, the Placer County District Attorney will file the charges
listed above against Denise Wilder on Monday, June 18.

A Placer County woman has been charged with child
abuse and neglect after an autopsy showed her 2-year-old daughter died
from malnutrition and alcohol poisoning.
Prosecutors on
Monday charged Denise Wilder, of Roseville, in connection with the April
4 death of McKinley Wilder, whose father said had been dead for at
least several hours when paramedics found her body at her grandparent's
home.
Wilder, who is 37, was arrested on suspicion of
murder in April but released pending the completion of an autopsy. She
was rearrested on Friday and remains jailed without bail. Her
arraignment is scheduled for today.
Law enforcement
officials have not elaborated on the coroner's finding that the todder
had fatal levels of alcohol in her system when she died.
Wilder also has been charged with endangering the life of McKinley's 5-year-old sister.

McKINLEY GAIL WILDER - 2 yo/ Accused: Mother-Denise Wilder - Roseville CA Empty Re: McKINLEY GAIL WILDER - 2 yo/ Accused: Mother-Denise Wilder - Roseville CA

Post by TomTerrific0420 Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:58 pm

A Roseville mother is scheduled to appear in court today on charges of child abuse
in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter after
the Placer County coroner found the child died of acute alcohol poisoning and malnutrition.
The Placer County District Attorney's Office announced Monday that Denise
Marie McGrath Wilder, 37, is charged with cruelty to a child by abuse,
neglect or endangering health, under circumstance likely to produce
great bodily harm or death in connection with the death of her daughter
McKinley Wilder. The complaint further alleges that Wilder personally
inflicted great bodily injury upon a child under the age of 5.
Wilder also is charged with abuse or endangerment under circumstances likely
to produce great bodily harm or death in connection with the abuse and
neglect of another daughter, age 5.
Denise Wilder was initially arrested April 4 after Roseville Police
and Fire Department personnel responded to Wilder's parents' home on
Diamond Oaks Road.
Denise Wilder and her ex-husband, Mark Wilder,
had been through a bitter divorce and were involved in a child-custody
fight. Family members said they had not been able to reach Denise Wilder
for several days and had reported her missing.
According to police, a family member found her April 4 at the home of her parents,
who were out of town, and found the 2-year-child was not breathing.
Police and firefighters confirmed that the child, McKinley Wilder, was dead.
Police said Denise Wilder was the only adult present with the children over
the previous two days. Because of the condition of McKinley's body and
the mother's extreme intoxication, officers arrested Denise Wilder on suspicion of murder.
The older daughter was released to child protective authorities.
The Placer County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy but wasn't able to
immediately establish the cause of McKinley's death. As a result, Denise
Wilder was released after less than a week in custody pending
completion of the autopsy report, and results of toxicology and other tests.
She was rearrested Friday afternoon based on the completed
coroner's report, which determined that the child died due to acute
alcohol toxicity and acute malnutrition.
Although aspects of the case are still being investigated, the autopsy report and forensic
testing provided adequate information to determine appropriate charges
in the case, the District Attorney's Office said Monday in a news release.
A Roseville Police Department spokeswoman said Monday
that investigators would not comment on the case, citing the need to
ensure fair and impartial court proceedings.
The District Attorney's Office also did not return calls seeking comment on the charges.
John Myers, a law professor with McGeorge School of Law
and an authority on child abuse, said he did not know the DA's reason
for filing child abuse rather than homicide charges. But he said the
child abuse statute, Penal Code Section 273a, under which the charges
were brought could result in a more severe penalty than a charge of
involuntary manslaughter.
"The punishment at the high end is more
serious," he said, noting the maximum penalty under the child abuse
statute is six years in prison vs. a maximum of four years for involuntary manslaughter.
Alcohol poisoning in a child typically occurs when a child inadvertently
gets access to a substance, Myers said.
Sharon Rae Zone, a licensed clinical social worker with CAARE Center at UC
Davis Children's Hospital, said she couldn't cite statistics on the
frequency of alcohol poisoning in children.
Alcohol in the form of liquor is not typically given to children, she said, but
there are substances containing alcohol that parents sometimes use if
they are trying to get a child to go to sleep.
More often, she said, children ingest alcohol when they find something within reach such
as mouthwash or cough syrup, or they may have seen a parent drinking an
alcoholic beverage and pick up an unattended glass or bottle.

I can see her defense already... if her dad was viewing child porn, he may have been molesting her, which ultimately caused her to drink. Hell, if she was living with them she may even say she was trying to save her kids from the same fate or some such BS. Just wait, his child porn arrest will come into play.

ROSEVILLE—

Denise Wilder, the 37-year-old mother of two, was
charged with two counts of child endangerment with special
circumstances today in her first court appearance after her rearrest.
"We plead not guilty; and we're certainly gratified she's not charged with
murder or any intentional crime," said Wilder's attorney Jess Bedore.

Wilder was arrested on April 4 and charged with suspicion of murder when her 2-year-old daughter
McKinley was found dead in her Roseville home. But she was released a
short time later because investigators weren't sure what killed the toddler.
The autopsy report showed that her daughter died of acute
malnutrition and acute alcohol toxicity. A news release from the
District Attorney's Office says the investigation is on-going but that
the autopsy report and other forensic evidence warranted charges of
child endangerment with the special circumstance of personally
inflicting great bodily harm to a child under the age of 5 years.
Police say Wilder was drunk when police responded to the emergency call.
University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law professor John Myers, who specializes
in child abuse and family law, says the autopsy was the key in filing the new charges.
"The autopsy report is the expert's testimony in the form of the physician's opinion," said Myers.
The two felony counts include the mistreatment of McKinley's 5-year-old
sister, who was also in the home but is now living with other family
members. With the special circumstances, the maximum penalty if found
guilty would be 18 years in state prison. But Bedore tried to downplay the new charges.
"There's penalties for willful child abuse with
life sentences. They didn't charge her with that. I don't think anybody
thinks she willfully intentionally did anything to that child," said Bedore.
Bedore says he doesn't know at this point how McKinley
ended up with so much alcohol in her system, but said he implied there
were plausible explanations of what happened to McKinley.
"I think there are a ton of mitigating circumstances but I'm not free to share them right now," said Bedore.
He also said Wilder is holding up in jail and regrets the incident.
"She's doing OK under the circumstances. There's nobody who feels more sorry
about her daughter's death than her I can tell you that right now," said
Bedore.Wilder's no bail status was not changed and a bail
hearing will be held to set a bail at Wilder's next court appearance on July 5th.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for this POS mother? Her attorney says she sorry but she's doing OK under the circumstances!!! Give me a break. She is responsible for the death of her precious little girl who was intoxicated and starved. Her attorney makes it sound like she will get off easy butI sure hope he's wrong. I hope the murderer mom goes away for a long time.

McKinley Wilder's grandfather remains jailed on federal hold

3:48 PM, Aug 22, 2012

WOODLAND, CA - The grandfather of a toddler who was found dead inside his Roseville home in April remains in jail on a federal hold.

Daniel McGrath appeared in Yolo County court Wednesday afternoon on charges of stalking and preventing or dissuading a victim or witness. The court appearance came nearly three months after McGrath was released on bail for federal pornography charges.

West Sacramento police arrested Daniel McGrath last Friday. He was detained at the police department for at least three hours then was transported to the Yolo County Jail after the arrest. West Sacramento police would not comment on the nature of the investigation.

During Wednesday's court hearing, McGrath's attorney Eric Hintz said Yolo County was not filing charges in the stalking case because Placer County has an ongoing case in its jurisdiction.

Hintz said McGrath denies the stalking allegations. Hintz said McGrath told him, "'I wasn't stalking or harassing anybody. I was trying to find out where my ex-son-in-law lives so we can serve legal papers on him in connection with a grandparent visitation.'"

McGrath and his wife are trying to obtain visitation rights with their 5-year-old granddaughter, the sister of the dead child, McKinley Wilder. A Placer County judge granted a restraining order against McGrath in May after he was arrested on the federal charges.

A source said the stalking incident started in Placer County. A woman called police after she noticed McGrath was following her, according to the source. The woman is a friend of Mark Wilder, the father of McKinley Wilder and her 5-year-old sister.

McGrath was arrested on federal porn charges about a month after the toddler's death. During the child death investigation, officers found thousands of images of child pornography at McGrath's Roseville property.

McKinley Wilder was found dead inside McGrath's home, but at the time, McGrath and his wife were out of the country.

The toddler's mother, Denise Wilder, was the only adult inside the home when police arrived. Her 5-year-old daughter was also there. Roseville police claimed Wilder was very drunk. She was later arrested on child endangerment charges in connection with her daughter's death.

Denise Wilder is being held at the Placer County jail on $500,000 bail.

No one from the Placer County District Attorney's Office returned phone calls or emails on Wednesday afternoon.

Mother blames stress of divorce for death of her two-year-old which led her to drinking problem and child's access to alcohol

A mother pleaded no contest last Friday in the death of her two-year-old daughter last year.

Denise Wilder enter the plea to two counts of felony child abuse and one count of child neglect and is set to be sentenced in October.

The Roseville mom was rearrested in June 2012 in the death of her daughter, McKinley, after authorities said an autopsy showed the girl died from malnutrition and alcohol poisoning.

Lawyers for Denise Wilder claim that her divorce from husband Mark, right, had caused her to develop a drinking problem, his lawyers maintain she had the problem even before their divorce

Prosecutors said Wilder was the only adult present when emergency responders arrived at her ex-husband's house and found the toddler dead in April of that year. Wilder was allegedly intoxicated.

She was arrested on suspicion of murder at the time but released pending the completion of the autopsy.

The coroner's report revealed McKinley died due to acute alcohol toxicity and acute malnutrition. Authorities later revealed that Wilder’s five-year-old daughter Kennedy was also violently ill from alcohol consumption.

Denise Wilder's attorney told The Sacramento Bee that his client’s drinking problem was brought on by her divorce.

Horrific: The dead body of McKinley Wilder, 2, (left) was found by her five-year-old sister, Kennedy

‘For several reasons, chief among them the stress of the divorce, Denise had developed a drinking problem,’ explained her lawyer Kresta Daly.

‘Unfortunately her children had access to the alcohol, which ultimately resulted in the death of her younger daughter.’

However lawyers for Mark Wilder claim that doesn't explain why the children had not been fed for days.

Denise Wilder, 37, was arrested last April after police found her drunk and daughter McKinley dead at her parent's home in Roseville, California.

The girls' father, Mark Wilder, 43, wrote on Facebook at the time: 'McKinley is no longer with us. Kennedy is now with me. The police have taken the suspect into custody.

'I cannot say anymore…and sadly, I don’t know anymore, except Kennedy is one scared little 5 year old that misses her baby sister. She found Mickey.'

Wilder and her estranged husband had been engaged in a nasty battle over McKinley and her five-year-old sister, with Wilder being given initial custody.

Mark, an Army master sergeant of 27 years, said his ex-wife had a history of alcohol abuse. In court documents he wrote: 'Night after night Denise would drink a bottle of wine or half a bottle of vodka.'

He said the children were often dirty and complained of hunger when he picked them up from their mother.

Wilder's family and friends described Mark as abusive and full of rage, adding that he led a double life meeting women online and had a dominatrix fetish.

The couple's divorce was finalized in 2011 amid continuing child custody feuds.

Authorities said they had concerns about the girls being subjected to abuse if Wilder and her husband could not find a way to co-parent peacefully.

The father should have been charged. He knew the children were always hungry. There's a reason for that, they don't eat. A good parent would find out why. A good parent would not use them as weapons in a custody fight. A good parent would not use drugs or alochol. NO drinking around kids, ever. The mother should have followed that. She had the children she should have taken care of them. Starve yourself before the children. At least some justice is done and the other girl is alive. I just hope she gets proper psych help. They are both POS parents. I pray for the sister who remains alive. God only knows what fate befalls her.
