Three-year-old weighing just 12lbs rescued from near death after 'mother, 26, and roommate starved the toddler deliberately'

Two women have been accused of nearly starving to death a three-year-old girl found weighing just over 12lbs.
The toddler's blood sugar level was zero and her body temperature was too
low to register when she was brought into a hospital emergency room.
Doctors had to perform CPR to save her life and the girl was found to be suffering from severe malnutrition.
Charged:
Mother Beth Williams, 26, left, and her roommate Christina M Haidle,
right, were arrested after the 3-year-old girl was found unresponsive in
their home while weighing just over 12 lbs
Investigators said
during the first four days of being in hospital she gained four pounds
in weight and another two pounds a week after placed with a foster
family, leading doctors to believe she had been deliberately starved of
food and water.
'You look at every other plausible reason the
child would be that way,' Police Lt. Darren Gallup said. 'There was no
plausible reason this child would weigh 12 pounds other than they didn’t
feed the child.'
The girl's mother Beth Williams, 26,
and her roommate Christina Haidle, 27, were arrested on Monday on
charges of child endangerment.
They had brought the girl to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, when she was unresponsive.
A probable-cause affidavit said that the child tested for 'a blood sugar
level of zero,' had a body temperature 'too low to register' and
exhibited 'a pulse so faint' that cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts
had to be initiated.
Found: Joplin Police were called to this home in Joplin, Missouri where the
girl was found suffering from very low blood sugar and a low body
temperature
Doctors who battled to save her life found that she weighed just 12lbs and nine ounces.
The average baby born in the U.S. weights between 7-8lbs.
Dana Williams, Beth Williams’ father and the child’s grandfather, said he
doesn’t believe the accusations and that the child 'has always been
small since she was born.'
'All I got to say about it right now
is I don’t believe it,' he said Wednesday. 'I know my daughter loves
that baby with all her heart, and I know she wouldn’t do anything to
hurt her.'

Dana Williams said he didn’t see his daughter and granddaughter often. The
last time they were together was Thanksgiving, he said, when his
daughter fixed typical holiday fare, and the child appeared healthy and
well-fed.
'That little girl had a big appetite,' he said.
A doctor told police that critical care was necessary to prevent
'life-threatening deterioration' of the girl’s condition because of
'dehydration, sepsis, circulatory failure, shock and respiratory
failure.'
After emergency treatment she was flown by helicopter
to Springfield where she was diagnosed as suffering from chronic
malnutrition.
Williams told police that when she left for work her daughter was 'fine.'
'She said the child was fine, and she went to sleep,' Joplin police Cpl. Chuck Niess told the Joplin Globe.
She arrived home around 10pm that night and checked on her child before going to bed.
It was in the morning her roommate, Haidle, allegedly woke her asking her how the toddler was doing.
Going to have a look, she found her unresponsive.
'These are the types of cases that bring tears to veteran investigators’
eyes,' Lt Gallup said. 'If you had seen the pictures, unfortunately,
it’s quite obvious something wasn’t right.'
He said that the girl hadn't seen a doctor in more than a year's time.
Haidle told investigators she has been a second care provider for the child.
According to court documents, she pleaded guilty in July 2004 to endangering the
welfare of a child and was placed on two years’ probation. She also was
arrested in 2007 for passing bad checks, for which she pleaded guilty
and served 60 days in jail.
Williams was arrested in 2005 for passing bad checks, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years of probation.
Both Williams and Haidle were being held Wednesday on $500,000 bond, and the
Jasper County Circuit Court clerk’s office had no records indicating
the women had attorneys.

The grandfather is defending his daughter!!!!! OMG. That explains a lot about why his daughter would do this to her own baby. POSs, all of them.
