Missing 12-Year-Old Girl Last Seen in Brooks County

BROOKS COUNTY -- A search is underway for a 12-year-old El
Salvadorian girl has been missing for 17 days. Officials said the girl
is an illegal immigrant who was traveling with a group of other
immigrants that left her behind in Brooks County.

Kimberly
Orellana was last seen near the Falfurrias checkpoint on August 8th.
Kimberly was traveling with a group of immigrants who were smuggled into
the United States and dropped off in Mcallen.

Immigrant activist Livio Danna said the group was heading to Houston
but left her behind after she couldn't walk anymore. Now, Danna is doing
whatever he can to find the 12 year old girl.

"She was travelling with people. She started to feel uncomfortable,
upset and tired and then she just left at that point," Danna said.

Danna started looking for the girl when a friend of her family's
called him seeking help. He is also making flyers with Kimberly's
picture and plans on posting them in Brooks County, hoping someone will
recognize her.

"Somebody saw her or allegedly saw her 6 miles south of Falfurrias on the road," he said.

Danna said it's important for people to disregard the fact that
Kimberly is an undocumented person who was travelling in the United
States.

"We need to let our feelings toward the illegal alien subject not
interfere with what is a human life at 12 years old destroyed,
completely destroyed," Danna said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about Kimberly to
please contact the Brooks County Sheriffs Department at 361-325-3696.
Again Kimberly is 5'1, 130LBS with black hair and brown eyes.
