David Goeser Missing: Car of UCLA student found in Pacific Palisades, LAPD say

(CBS) LOS ANGELES - California police found a car in Pacific
Palisades Wednesday belonging to missing UCLA honors student David
Goeser, CBS Los Angeles reports.
LAPD
said Goeser, 22, was last seen by his roommates Sunday at his residence
just west of UCLA in Westwood. When family members hadn't heard from
him for over a week, they went to his home to check on him.
They didn't find Goeser, but they did say he left his cell phone, identification and credit cards at his home.
Police
found Goeser's 2001 white four-door Toyota Corolla Wednesday evening in
Pacific Palisades. Goeser may have a Washington state driver's license
in his possession with the number GOESEDJ106L4.
The English major is under medical care and needs regular medication, according to CW affiliate KTLA. His parents said he hasn't been in touch in recent months, and has been struggling with depression lately.

Reported sighting of missing UCLA student David Goeser Thursday morning proven false

Police surrounded the University Religious Conference on Hilgard
Avenue Thursday morning following a reported sighting of a missing UCLA student that was later proved to be false.


The Los Angeles Police Department received a call about a possible
sighting of David Goeser, who was last seen by his roommates on July 22,
around 9 a.m., said LAPD Sgt. David
Bluestein. Police followed up on the call, but when police approached
the man, he ran into the University Religious Conference on Hilgard
Avenue.


The individual was found to be a local homeless man, and LAPD has verified it is not Goeser, Bluestein said.


A number of police cars were in the intersection of Hilgard and Le
Conte avenues Thursday morning, and police asked passersby to not walk
on the sidewalk in front of the religious center while they detained the
homeless man.


Bluestein said people have frequently been calling in with possible
sightings of the student since missing persons fliers have been posted. LAPD follows up with every report they receive, he said.


The search for Goeser, a fourth-year English student, reaches along the West Coast. Goeser’s friends and family have started a Facebook page posting information about the ongoing search, and are asking for help in posting missing persons fliers.

Washington area. Article: The parents of a missing UCLA honors student
found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Pacific Palisades
expressed gratitude Thursday for the help they received during their
search for him.

Authorities confirmed that remains found by hikers in Pacific Palisades last weekend are those of David John Goeser, 22.

The senior English major was last seen by his roommates the morning of
July 22 in the 1000 block of Roebling Avenue in Westwood, authorities
said. His family went to his house to check on him after not hearing
from him in over week, but found only his identification, cellphone and
credit cards, officials said.

His car was found three days
later near Los Liones Drive and Sunset Boulevard, not far from the
entrance to the Los Liones Canyon Trail, where authorities said the
hikers found a skull, torso and bones about 11 a.m. Saturday.

A
flier distributed by family members on Facebook said Goeser was under a
doctor's care and taking medication at the time of his disappearance. A
posting on the "Find David Goeser" Facebook page early Thursday
confirmed the news.

"While we grieve this tremendous loss, we
are immensely grateful for the love and support of all who helped us in
our search," his parents wrote. "We would ask that you continue to
respect the family's privacy at this time, and we thank you for your
ongoing prayers and support. You have been a true gift."

A
memorial service has been scheduled for Oct. 6 at Calvary Community
Church in Westlake Village. Goeser's family said more information would
be available on Facebook later.

How incredibly tragic. I was just searching for him the other night and I was concerned that he'd left his personal belongings behind.

Nothing and I really mean nothing is so terrible that we can't get through it by holding on to God's hand and I just think so many people wouldn't give up on life if they knew that. I hope his parents know that too. This dear, handsome young man had his entire life ahead of him and he gave up so soon. My heart and prayers are with his parents during this devastating time.
