JONESBORO, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois woman is accused of suffocating her 11-month-old daughter.

Prosecutors in Union County have charged 39-year-old Stacey Tiffin of Anna with first-degree murder.

The criminal complaint alleges that Tiffin placed her hand over the mouth and nose of Cassandra Tiffin on Sept. 16, knowingly causing the baby's death.

Stacey Tiffin was arrested Thursday after an investigation by Illinois State Police and the sheriff's and coroner's offices of Union County.

Tiffin couldn't be reached for comment Friday. Online court records don't show whether she has an attorney, and calls to her home went unanswered.

How could anyone look into those gorgeous eyes and hurt such a little angel, especially her mother. I thought Florida was bad but were getting too many of these child cases here in Illinois. Just breaks my heart when there's a lot of people that would love this little girl with all their heart and soul and her mother just treats her like meat.

Prosecutors say Stacey R. Tiffin, 39, of Anna has been charged with one count of first degree murder in connection to the death of a minor.

The criminal complaint alleges that Tiffin placed her hand over the mouth and nose of Cassandra Tiffin on September 16, knowingly causing the baby's death.

Tiffin is set to appear in court on Friday morning at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

JONESBORO — Bond was set at $500,000 Friday in Union County for an Anna woman accused of suffocating her 11-month-old daughter.

Stacey R. Tiffin, 39, is charged with first-degree murder in the Sept. 16 death of her daughter, Cassandra. Authorities say Tiffin placed her hand over the mouth and nose of the child knowing it would kill her, according to court documents filed Thursday.

Tiffin was appointed a public defender, and a preliminary hearing was set for Oct. 30 in the courthouse in Jonesboro.

Tiffin was arrested Thursday after an investigation by Illinois State Police and the Union County sheriff’s and coroner’s offices. The Southern Illinois Child Death Task Force was also activated.

I too hope this murderer is punished to the fullest extent of the law. The poor baby was probably looking at her mother as she murdered her. I pray justice is served.

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - An Anna woman charged with murdering her daughter is now out on bond.

Stacey Tiffin, 39, is accused of placing her hand over her 11-month-old daughter's nose and killing her in September, 2012.

Tiffin's bond was originally set at $50,000 but on Tuesday a judge lowered her bond.

Heartland News has learned she's now out of jail and under home confinement.

The judge in the case also ruled Tiffin's not allowed to have any contact with children under the age of 15 or with her 3-year-old child.

She's due back in court March 5, 2013.
