Murder charges filed in toddler's death
Lamonica Johnson charged with capital murder

SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. —A woman in Scott County is accused of killing a 3-year-old girl on Saturday.
Investigators said the incident happened at a home on Harris Road.
Samaria Harris was taken to University Medical Center in Jackson, where she died. An autopsy showed Samaria died of severe injuries to the head, investigators said.
Lamonica Johnson was charged with capital murder.
Authorities said Johnson is the fiancee of Samaria's father, 38-year-old Sedrick Harris, who has been charged with felonious child abuse. Investigators said there were indications of old bruises on the child's body.
The girl had been in the care of her father and Johnson for the past six months, investigators said. Her mother lives in Biloxi, authorities said.
