East Bay girl 16, missing for almost two weeks; parents fear she's being held against her will

SAN LORENZO -- The mother of a 16-year-old girl who has run away before said she fears her daughter is without her medication for a health problem and may have been held against her will for the last 12 days by her boyfriend.

Lilliana Lopez was last seen about noon on June 16 at her home in San Lorenzo, said her mother, Gloria Lopez. The family was out running errands and attending church, and when they returned, she was gone, the mother said.

The teen left a note in Spanish saying, "Please forgive me. This isn't against you. It's to protect you. I don't want to do this but I don't want something to happen to you all. I love you very much."

The note did not indicate who, if anyone, she was with.

Amy Rickard, the executive director with South County Family Services, which helps families of missing children and adults, said the girl has a health condition that requires medication. The girl does not have the medication with her, according to her mother.

Alameda County Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said deputies have tried to locate the girl at the boyfriend's house and other undisclosed houses but have not been successful.

The family printed fliers and posted them around Alameda County, naming the 16-year-old boyfriend, whom they believe is staying with family in Hayward or with relatives in Modesto.

Nelson declined to discuss the teen because he is a juvenile. He also declined to say if he is wanted in connection with the girl's disappearance. This newspaper is not naming the teen because he is a juvenile and law enforcement officials have not accused him of a crime.

"We don't think she is being held against her will," Nelson said, adding that the girl has run away with the boyfriend twice before.

Her mother said she went missing in January and then again at the end of February. She was found in a Modesto hospital in early March after a caller told authorities the girl was going in and out of consciousness. Doctors treated her for dehydration, malnutrition and her medical condition, her mother said.

Her mother said the teenager called a friend to say that she was OK during previous times she went missing. This time, she has not been in contact with anyone and her phone is turned off, her mother said.

Lilliana speaks English and Spanish. She has brown hair, brown eyes and is about 5 feet tall and weighs about 105 lbs. Anyone with information about her should call the Alameda County Sheriff's office at 510-667-7721.
