A registered violent sex offender is facing charges after being found
with a 14 year-old Memphis teen whose disappearance sparked a weekend
Amber Alert.

The teenager disappeared left home Friday night, and was found with the suspect on Saturday.

Police say the 37 year old suspect lived with the boy and his family
until his parents found sexual pictures on the teen's phone.

Pictures, police say, came from registered sex offender Mark Tyre.

Now, Tyre is back behind bars, charged with solicitation sexual
exploitation of a minor, and violating Tennessee's sex offender
registry.

According to court records, Tyre served 10 years in prison, for the
1991 kidnapping and sexual assault of a pre-teen boy in Clarksville,
Tennessee.

Now, police believe Tyre had his sights set on the 14 year old from Memphis.

"Based on his activities, I believe he's a sexual predator," Deputy
Chief Joe Scott of the Memphis Police Department told reporters Monday
afternoon.

Scott says the teen's parents called police earlier this month, after finding sexual pictures on their son's phone.

When they checked the internet, they learned the 37year old who had befriended the boy, was a violent sex offender.

The teen's grandmother says Tyre earned the boy's trust, by buying him things, including a cell phone.

"He gets them in, under his confidence," explained Barbara Hartjen, the
victim's grandmother. "You know how they work, he's just the good guy,
and they want to take care of him. "Oh, I wish we could just push a
button on our kids so they wouldn't listen to him," she said Saturday
after learning the boy had been found by police.

After finding the pictures, the teen's parents called police.

Officers spent the next week getting warrants, and looking for Tyre.

Then, Saturday morning, the teen's parents found the boy gone.

Police believe it was the realization of a plan to leave Tyre and the boy hatched.

The pair was found a short time later in Bartlett after an Amber Alert was issued.

His grandmother says the boy still believes Tyre didn't do anything
wrong, and says the 37 year old told her grandson that he'd been framed
in the 1991 case.

But police, call it something else.

"I think he had been, I hate to use the word, brainwashed," Scott said
of the boy. "He had influence over this 14 year old. too much
influence."

Police describe Tyre as an unemployed drifter.

They have a good idea of what the suspect and boy were planning to do once they left, but aren't releasing those details.

Investigators say this case is still open, and that more charges could be filed.

Memphis Police say federal charges could also arise out of the findings.
