Police are investigating a baby found dead in a hospital trash can.

3TV has learned the baby was dumped on Sunday in the emergency room at Banner Thunderbird Hospital.

A 15-year-old girl came to the emergency room with her mother complaining of stomach pains.

The teen then allegedly gave birth in the ER bathroom and did not tell
anyone. A member of the cleaning crew found the baby in the trash.

The baby's body is at the medical examiner’s office so that they can determine the cause of death.

Glendale police are investigating the death of a newborn found in a hospital bathroom.

police spokesman Jim Cunningham said officers responded to a call
Saturday morning at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center after a "child
was found unattended in the bathroom by hospital staff."

Police say a teenage girl came into the hospital for medical treatment and delivered a baby in the bathroom.

Hospital staffers were unsuccessful in attempts to save the baby.

Authorities are awaiting results from the medical examiner on the manner and cause of the death.

GLENDALE - A police report obtained by FOX 10 has gathered insight on a newborn baby found dead inside a Banner Thunderbird restroom on Sept. 26.

The report describes a teenager giving birth inside the bathroom, then putting the baby in the feminine hygiene receptacle inside a bathroom stall. A hospital cleaning lady found the body shortly afterwards.

Firefighters tried to revive the baby, but were unable to get a pulse.

Police say the girl's mom took her to the hospital, but didn't know she was pregnant. The girl's mother told Glendale detectives her daughter had been complaining about stomach pains. She decided to take the teen to the emergency room, and the girl went straight to the bathroom.

According to the report, the girl said she delivered the baby in the bathroom and since it was stillborn, she threw it in the trashcan.

The girl said she did not know she was pregnant because she continued to get her period. She also told police she was raped 9 months prior by an unknown male -- her mother told detectives she thought her daughter was not sexually active.

Charges are pending autopsy results that would confirm whether or not the baby died of natural causes.
