A Weatherford couple was arrested during the weekend after their
4-month-old was found to have bruises and fractures all over her body
in what authorities and doctors called one of the worst child abuse
cases that they had ever seen. The infant had bruises and
fractures on her stomach, face, head, back, legs, arm, feet and hands,
according to a Parker County Sheriff’s Office news release.Sheriff's
Investigator Sammy Slatten said that on a scale of one to 10 with 10
being death, "The level of abuse this child sustained rates as an
eight," he said in the release. "It's extremely disturbing."A
Cook Children's Medical Center affidavit states that the baby's
injuries were designated as violent trauma with multiple fractures and
possible serious brain damage.Authorities arrested Leanne
Kathleen Donovan, 19, who is the mother of the baby, and her boyfriend,
Isaac Daniel Bigley, 27, who is the father of the child.Donovan
and Bigley remained in the Parker County Jail. Donovan was being held
on $50,000 bail and Bigley was being held on suspicion of tampering
with physical evidence.
Donovan is expected to be charged with injury to a child, authorities
said.She
may be charged with a second count of injury to a child in Tarrant
County where authorities believe the child suffered multiple fractures
a few weeks ago."We believe Leanne Donovan only lived in Parker
County for about four days," Slatten said. "We are confident the rib
and femur fractures occurred weeks prior because they appeared to a
have been in the process of healing and not as recent as the other
injuries indicated."According to sheriff reports, Donovan took
the infant to a local emergency clinic on Saturday for a rash, but
staff members found serious injuries on the child and sent the baby to
Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth. At that hospital,
doctors determined that the rash was consistent with blood rising to
the skin's surface after the child had been suffocated or choked. The
infant also had facial hemorrhaging, the report states. The baby,
named Layla, has been released from a Fort Worth hospital and placed
into foster care, said Marissa Gonzales, spokeswoman for Child
Protective Services.Gonzales said the child’s parents, who have no other children, have no previous history with the state agency. The
sheriff's news release states that Bigley who was on parole for
burglary became violent when he was booked into jail on Saturday. He
verbally threatened and attempted to attack jailers, claiming he was a
member of the Aryan Brotherhood, the release states.During an
interview with sheriff investigators, Bigley stole witness' statement
notes from an investigator, according to the release.
