SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - A Scottsbluff man has been found guilty in the shaking death of his infant daughter in April.
A Scotts Bluff District Court jury
deliberated for six and half hours Friday before finding 35-year-old
John Chavez guilty of child abuse resulting in death.
Court documents indicate Chavez told
police he shook 3-month-old Aubrey Chavez at least twice to stop her
from crying, but he thought she was sleeping when he put her in an
infant seat. Police responded after the girl's mother returned home
from work and found her unresponsive.
An autopsy showed Aubrey died of head injuries.
A date for Chavez' sentencing has not been set.
