A Detroit family is worried for their little girl. The toddler was
allegedly taken by her mother, who does not have legal custody. The
family is praying for the best, but fearing the worst. That is why they
reached out to Detroit Police. Two-year-old Nevaeh
Merriewether was last seen at her home on Abington in Detroit where she
lives with her aunt, who was awarded legal guardianship of the girl on
Thursday. However, on Saturday, family members say Nevaeh's biological
mother, 29-year-old Che Massey, took her without permission. Neither of
them have been seen since.



Massey lost custody of Nevaeh due to neglect, and her family is scared and worried sick for the
girl's safety. "Saturday morning, she was here when we left
going to my granddaughter's soccer game, and when we (came) back, she
was gone, said grandmother Sandra Merriewether. "I just want her
to bring Nevaeh back home safely. She can call me. My number is the
same. I can pick her up. I just want her back home here where she
belongs," said aunt Twana Merriewether. "I'm just worried that
she's out in the street somewhere with someone, and it's not a good
situation for the child," she added. Nevaeh is two years old,
weighs 25 pounds and was last seen wearing a pink jacket, yellow pants

Detroit police are seeking help in the search for a missing child who
they say was taken by her mother without permission from the girl’s aunt
who had recently been awarded custody by a court.
Nevaeh Merriewether, 2, was last seen at her aunt Tawana
Merriewether’s home in the 12600 block of Abington around 8 p.m. May 15.
According to Sandra Merriewether, Nevaeh’s grandmother, on May 13, her daughter
Tawana Merriewether was granted full custody of the toddler because the
child was not being cared for properly.

Nevaeh’s mother, Che Massey,
lived at Tawana Merriewether’s home because she was homeless.

On May 15, while Tawana Merriewether was at a soccer game, Massey took the
child but family members were not too worried that weekend when she did
not return with the child. They became alarmed on Monday and notified police.

Sandra Merriewether said she is concerned about
Nevaeh’s welfare but said she is unsure if the girl’s mother would put
her in danger.

“I don’t know because she sometimes had bouts of depression,” she said.

Nevaeh is 2 feet and 25 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink jacket, yellow pants, and pink shoes.
