A Victorville woman is behind bars on suspicion of
murder for leaving her son so malnourished that he died at a hospital,
sheriff's officials said today.Rosondra Clay, 29, was arrested May 12 and booked into West Valley
Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. She was held in lieu of $1 million
bail.San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies said 5-year-old Kevin Baldwin,
who had cerebral palsy, was found not breathing in the 15800 block of
Green Hill Drive on July 3, 2008.Firefighters took him to a hospital where he died.Detectives from the sheriff's Crimes Against Children detail
investigated the child's death. An autopsy determined the child died of
severe malnutrition due to neglect.

California: Victorville mom ordered to stand trial for murder

Victorville, Calif. (AP) — A mother has been ordered to stand trial for murder in the 2008 starving death of her 5-year-old son, who had cerebral palsy.

During a preliminary hearing Wednesday in San Bernardino County, a judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to support a murder charge against 29-year-old .

Investigators who spent two years interviewing witnesses and going through Baldwin’s medical records said he died because his mother did not feed him. He died on July 3, 2008.

Clay was ordered to return to court June 10 to enter a formal plea. She is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on $1 million bail.

Clay faces 25 years to life in state prison if convicted.

Victorville is about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Mom to be sentenced to time served in child death

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) A Victorville mother accused of neglecting and starving her disabled son has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the boy's death and will be sentenced to time already served.

The Victorville Daily Press says Superior Court Judge Jules Fleuret accepted the plea deal Friday.

Rosondra Marie Clay has already served ten months in jail and will be released April 29 when she is sentenced to eleven months' time served.

Clay's son Kevin Baldwin had cerebral palsy and weighed just 15 pounds when he died from severe malnutrition at the age of 5 in July 2008.

Clay's attorney says it was very difficult to feed the boy because he had no muscular control.

Clay had been charged with murder and could have been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
