BRAYDON ALEXANDER ODELL - 7 Months - (2010) Easley (W of Greenville) SC
A Piedmont man with a criminal record of assault has been charged
with homicide by child abuse in the death of a baby boy in Easley.
Kevin Brian Adams, who is 37, was arrested and charged by Easley
police on Thursday.
Police say Adams is responsible for the head injury
that killed 7-month-old Braydon Alexander Odell. Adams is in the
Pickens County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
The police warrant says Adams grabbed, shook, or “violently moved”
the baby, causing “extensive and fatal injuries.”
Police said Adams was a friend of the baby’s mother.
Braydon, who was 7 months old, died Sunday at Greenville Memorial
Hospital, three days after authorities responded to an Easley apartment
because the baby was unresponsive.
An autopsy done Tuesday confirmed that Braydon died of a
“non-accidental head trauma,” according to Pickens County Coroner Kandy
Kelley.
Easley police Maj. Tim Tollison said several people, including the
child’s mother, had been around the apartment the night that authorities
got the 9-1-1 call, but authorities believe Adams is the only person
responsible for the baby’s death.
Tollison said Adams has a criminal record.
In 2003, he pleaded guilty to assault and battery with intent to
kill. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, but it is not clear how
much time he served.
Tollison said the charge against Adams carries with it the potential
for life imprisonment.

In Court: Boyfriend Accused In Baby’s Death
Judge Rejects Kevin Adams' Request For Lower Bond

EASLEY, S.C. -- A 37-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend's 7-month-old baby appeared in court on Friday.
Easley police said Kevin Brian Adams, of Piedmont, is charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of Braydon Alexander O'Dell.
The Pickens County clerk of court's office confirmed Adams' request for bond reduction was denied during Friday's hearing. The original $180,000 bond remained in place, and Adams remained in custody because he could not post it, the clerk of court's office confirmed.
Officials said Adams' trial is likely to be scheduled sometime in May.
Braydon was the son of Michael Shane O'Dell, of Honea Path, and Holli Hawkins, of Easley. Adams is Hawkins boyfriend, police said.
The baby was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital after emergency workers were unable to revive him. The baby died three days later.
Braydon's grandmother said the baby's organs were donated and would save the lives of several other babies.
The arrest warrant said Adams “did grab, shake, or violently move the child during which extensive and fatal injuries were caused to the child.”
Court records indicated that Adams has an extensive criminal history including previous convictions for drugs, assault and fraudulent checks.

this is beyond ridiculous!! why does he have more rights than the poor baby he killed? the baby was probably just crying like babies do and he couldnt take it. he has violence in his past so why hasnt the mother been charged with endangering her child?

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. -- An Easley man charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 7-month-old baby pleaded guilty to a lesser charge on Monday, as the family of the child spoke out on his behalf.
Kevin Bryan Adam, of Piedmont, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Braydon Alexander Odell.
Adams was arrested in May 2010 and charged with homicide by child abuse. An arrest warrant said Adams "did grab, shake or violently move the child during which extensive and fatal injuries were caused to the child."
Adams was released on bond in January 2012 and had been on house arrest since.
Easley police said Braydon was the son of Michael Shane O'Dell, of Honea Path, and Holli Hawkins, of Easley. Adams was Hawkins' boyfriend, police said.
At the time of Adam's arrest, neighbor Lisa Gaines told News 4 she woke up to screaming outside her Easley apartment. That's when she stepped out and saw an officer trying to perform CPR on Braydon outside the apartment while Hawkins, Adams and several others watched.
Braydon died later at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Adams’ lawyer said his client thought Braydon had something stuck in his throat and he was trying to assist the child’s breathing.
The prosecutor said had the case gone to trial they couldn’t prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Adams had ill will toward the child.
Braydon’s mother, grandmother and father all gave tearful pleas on Adams’ behalf, saying he was trying to save the 7-month-old.
On Monday, the judge sentenced Adams to five years of probation.
Investigators said Adams has an extensive criminal history, including previous convictions for drugs, assault and fraudulent checks

This attorney may very well have gone to the same law school as Jose Baez.

What a sad verdict. Somone harmed that baby. It's interesting that the baby's mother, father and gradmother supported the perp. SC must have very lax laws.
