A man with two guns walked into a Del Taco restaurant and shot his
stepdaughter's family, killing her husband and 6-year old son, before
shooting himself fatally Saturday in San Bernardino, authorities say.

Jimmy Schlager. 56, arrived at the restaurant via bike at 1 p.m. After an exchange of words, he
shot his 29-year-old stepdaughter, her 33-year-old husband and their
sons ages 5 and 6 who were eating lunch, said San Bernadino police Lt. Jarrod Burguan.

The 6-year-old boy was declared dead at a nearby hospital and the husband died on the spot,
said Steve Tracey, San Bernardino Fire Department
spokesman. He also said that the woman and her 5-year-old son were
hospitalized at Loma Linda University Medical Center and are in critical condition.

The names of the victims have not been released yet.

Several other patrons and workers at the restaurant were unharmed but visibly shaken, police said. The
gunman who shot the four victims was clearly looking for those targeted, police added.

Schlager reportedly had a criminal record dating back from 1972 that included assault with a deadly weapon. He was from Lancaster in northern Los Angeles County.

fair and the child's condition as serious.

The 56-year-old Schlager shot himself at the restaurant and died at
an area hospital.Authorities have said Alex
Trujillo's wife was Schlager's stepdaughter. Investigators have been
looking into their relationship to determine a motive for the shooting.The
woman's mother was married to Schlager and died several years ago.Schlager,
who is from Lancaster in northern Los
Angeles County, had a long criminal record running from 1972 to
1999 that included theft, drunken driving and assault with a deadly
weapon. A co-worker took out a restraining order on him in 2006, police
said.Police said between five and seven employees and several
other customers were in the restaurant, but the gunman singled out the
four victims in the shooting, leaving bullet
holes and broken glass inside.Officials said the attack on the family was one of the worst recent
crime scenes in San Bernardino, a city of about 200,000 people about 60
miles east of Los Angeles.
