Late Tuesday night the Los Angeles Police Department issued a critical missing bulletin for 13-year-old Karina Valencia of Sylmar.
"The family of Karina Valencia
and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are asking for the
public’s assistance in locating Karina, who has been missing since Saturday.



"On August 14, 2010 at around 6:30 p.m., Karina was last seen at a friend’s birthday party in the
13800 block of Polk Street in LAPD’s Mission Area. She has not had
contact with her family since that time and there is great concern for
her welfare. It is possible that Karina met an unknown male on the
popular website, MySpace, and left to meet up with him.
"Karina has been known to frequent Sylmar Park located at Polk Street and Bordon Avenue, as well
as the Sylmar Library located 14561 Polk Street, Sylmar.
"Karina is described as a female Hispanic with long brown hair and brown
eyes. She stands about 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately
90 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white “Madonna” shirt and black shorts.
"Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Karina Valencia is urged to contact LAPD
Mission Division at (818) 838-9800. During non-business hours or on
weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7. Anyone wishing
to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
(800-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to

A missing 13-year-old Sylmar girl left a birthday
party hours before it turned into a crime scene, yet the two cases are
unrelated, police said Wednesday.
Karina Valencia was seen
Saturday about 6:30 p.m. on Polk Avenue leaving a birthday party. Three
hours later, six people were shot at the same party.
Police said Wednesday there is no connection between the shooting and Valencia's disappearance.
Authorities are now working on the theory Valencia may be with someone she met on MySpace.
Also, police say, Valencia was seen Tuesday in Sylmar by someone who knows her well.
Authorities say they still consider her a "critical missing" because a 13-year-old girl should not
be running around without adult supervision.
Anyone who has seen or has information about her whereabouts should contact the LAPD's Mission Station.

know him. I wouldn't leave with nobody that I don't know." The
teen had a MySpace account, and her family said they feared she may have
run with another teen or an adult male that she met online. Her
mother said she doesn't know the young man her daughter may have
willingly left the neighborhood with. It's one possibility in her
disappearance, though police haven't ruled out kidnapping. The
7th grader was known to frequent Sylmar Park and the Sylmar Public
Library. She is described as Hispanic, 5 feet, 3 inches tall, about 90
pounds, and was last seen wearing a white Madonna T-shirt and black
shorts. Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD Mission Hills Division at (818) 838-9800. As they wait for good news, the family said they love her and just want her back safe.
