The Los Angeles Police Department Saturday issued a Child Abduction
Regional Emergency Alert for a 10-year-old girl who may have been
abducted by her mother in the San Fernando Valley and taken to Las
Vegas.
Vanessa Anne Wallace was last seen at her grandmother's house at around
3:30 p.m. Friday in the 9600 block of Sepulveda Boulevard near Plummer
Street in North Hills, according to police.
When the grandmother couldn't find the child, she called police.
Wallace's father told authorities that the girl's mother may have taken
the child in connection with a custody issue.
The 25-year-old mother, Rania Helo, is believed to live in Las Vegas,
Los Angeles police Sgt. Francisca Wheeling of the Mission Station said.
Wallace was last seen wearing a dark purple hooded sweatshirt and black
jeans. She is 5 feet tall, weighs about 90 pounds and has black hair
and brown eyes.
Helo is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 115 pounds with brown
hair and brown eyes. A description of Helo's vehicle was not available,
Wheeling said.
A Child Abduction Regional Emergency is a first step toward the possible issuance of an Amber Alert, Wheeling said.
Anyone with more information was asked to contact the Mission Station at (818) 838-9800 or (877) LAPD-24-7.
