Tecumseh infant dies; father held in connection with her death
A 3-month-old Tecumseh girl died this morning at an Oklahoma
City hospital, and her father is in custody in connection with her
death.
TECUMSEH — A 3-month-old Tecumseh girl died early this morning at an Oklahoma City hospital, and her father is being held in connection with her death.
Lidia Trammell died about 1 a.m. at The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center, Pottawatomie County District Attorney Richard Smothermon said. The baby's father, Stephen Trammell,
33, of Tecumseh, was arrested Thursday on a complaint of child abuse.
Smothermon said now that the child is dead, he anticipates charging
Trammell with first-degree murder. Tecumseh police detective J.R. Kidney said Lidia was initially taken by her parents to Unity Hospital in Shawnee. He said they told investigators the baby was having respiratory problems. Kidney said a physician at OU Medical Center
contacted authorities about 11 a.m. Thursday saying Lidia appeared to
have been severely abused. Kidney said Trammell was left alone with the
child while the baby's mother went to the store to buy diapers. He said the case is still under investigation. Kidney said there were no other children in the home.

Medical examiner determines Tecumseh baby’s cause of death
SHAWNEE, Okla. —
The state medical examiner’s office has determined cause of death for a 3-month-old Tecumseh baby who died last week in a suspected child abuse case.
Cherokee Ballard, spokeswoman for the office of the Chief Medical Examiner, said Monday that pathologists determined Lydia Trammell’s cause of death was blunt force head trauma. The manner of death is still listed as pending for further review, Ballard said.
Lydia was hospitalized last week and died late Thursday night at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, law enforcement authorities said.
Earlier that same evening, police had arrested her father, Steven H. Trammell, 33, on a complaint of child abuse, said Tecumseh Assistant Police Chief J.R. Kidney.
Because the child died, Trammell is now being held in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center without bail on a murder complaint. The case remains under investigation and formal charges have not been filed. Trammell’s next court date is scheduled Friday.
Kidney’s arrest affidavit for the case shows doctors determined the child had a skull fracture and leg injuries — two broken tibias and a broken femur.
Kidney reported the investigation began when the Tecumseh Police Department received a call about 11 a.m. Thursday from Children’s Hospital doctors reporting a “severe case of child abuse” from the Tecumseh area, Kidney said.
An investigation, which continued all day and into the evening Thursday, led to the father’s arrest.
Kidney said the probe indicates the child’s mother, who had gone to the store to get diapers, returned home Wednesday night to find Trammell on the floor using a suction bulb to clear the baby’s mouth.
He said both parents took the girl about 7 p.m. Wednesday to Unity Health Center with respiratory distress and she was transferred by ambulance to Children’s Hospital.
During the investigation, the child’s mother, Sandra Trammell, reported she had no idea what could have happened to the baby, the affidavit states. It also shows the father later told police the child had bumped her head in the bathtub on Tuesday.
Prior to going to the hospital Wednesday night, Lydia had been seen by a doctor Tuesday for an ear infection, the affidavit shows.
She was later taken to Unity because she was acting as if she had a stomach ache. The diagnosis was that the baby had colic, according to the affidavit.

Prosecutors allege a 3-month-old baby died because her father hit her head while swinging her by her legs.
Steven Howard Trammell, 33, was charged Wednesday in Pottawatomie County
District Court with first-degree manslaughter. He is accused of
inflicting the head injury that led to the death of his infant daughter,
Lydia Trammell. Lydia died Jan. 6 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Physicians there told investigators the child had fractures on her legs
and head consistent with child abuse, a court affidavit states.
The state medical examiner's office reported the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Trammell has remained in the county jail since his arrest Jan. 5. District Attorney Richard Smothermon
had planned to charge Trammell with first-degree murder, but said
Wednesday there is no evidence to show the infant's death was
premeditated. If convicted, Trammell could be sentenced to four years to life in prison, he said. Lydia's
parents had taken her to a hospital in Shawnee on Jan. 5. They told
investigators the girl was having trouble breathing, and had taken her
to a doctor earlier that week for an earache, according to court records.

Steven Howard Trammell
TECUMSEH, Oklahoma -
Charges are dismissed against a Tecumseh father accused of killing his infant daughter.
According to court records, a first degree manslaughter charge against 34-year-old Steven Howard Trammell was dismissed on April 2.
"I am absolutely positive Steven Trammell is innocent," said Paul Sutton, Trammell's attorney. "I am also absolutely convinced the Department of Human Service's investigator violated my client's constitutional rights by not invoking his right to remain silent and have his attorney present. That is why charges are dismissed."
Trammell was accused of killing his 3-month-old daughter back in January 2011. Investigators believe the baby was injured while the mother was out buying diapers. Investigators said when she got back the father was using a suction bulb trying to suck something out the baby's mouth.
The parents drove the infant to Unity Hospital in Shawnee and she was rushed to Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City where she later died. Doctors there called police. Trammell was arrested a few days later.

Court papers say the baby had a skull fracture, both tibias fractured and a femur fracture. Prosecutors say it was the result of being hit in the head and believed consistent with child abuse.

So, because of a technicality the murder charges were dropped and now his attorney maintains his innocence,
Reminds me of Baez claiming Casey is "innocent".
