Police: One-month-old had empty stomach, several injuries
The probable cause affidavit states Emmanuel Rodriguez-Serrano had been drinking before the baby was discovered dead.
January 21, 2011
Indianapolis— There is new information on the details surrounding the death of a one-month-old baby.
While 20-year-old Emmanuel Rodriguez-Serrano is behind bars facing charges in the death of his own daughter, court records give more insight into what actually happened Tuesday.
An autopsy determined Evelyn Jasmine Ricardo died not only from blunt force trauma, but she had also sustained other injuries to her body.
According to a newly released probable cause affidavit, the baby sustained several injuries including a broad contusion to the left side of the face; two separate distinct areas of contusions to the scalp with one to the top of the head and above the left eyebrow; a deep muscle injury to the back of the neck and a pattern of injury to the right and left buttocks.
It goes on to say the baby has poor hygiene with dried fecal matter and an empty stomach.
While Rodriguez-Serrano maintains the baby simply fell from the bed, his neighbors believe otherwise.
"He just needed to take a break. We were here. We were home. We were right across the street and it was that simple but no one asks for help any more," says Sabrina Conrad, who lives across the street.
"It breaks my heart, it really does. That mother is going through so much pain because now she has to live with that."
The probable cause affidavit also states Rodriguez-Serrano had been drinking before the baby was discovered dead.
Meantime, Rodriguez-Serrano is behind bars awaiting charges.
