LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- A Lakewood man was arrested Saturday after a 2-year-old neighbor boy he was baby-sitting died the night before, police said.
Michael Burton, 30, is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail and is expected to be formally charged with murder Monday, said Sgt. Frank Eschweiler.
According to Eschweiler, the incident unfolded like this: Police and paramedics were called to an apartment on Robin Street about 9:20 p.m.
Friday after someone called about an unresponsive child.
Inside, they found 2-year-old Anthony J. Dabila and Burton, who lived in an apartment across the hall and was supposed to be caring for Dabila. Police did not disclose whether others were in the apartment.
Dabila was unconscious and later declared dead at Lakewood Hospital.
An autopsy Saturday revealed Dabila had been beaten to death.

An extremely distressed Lakewood mother called 911 Friday night when she came home to her Robin Avenue apartment around 9 p.m. and found her son dead.
The Lakewood Police Department released the recording of the call Monday.
The mother of Anthony Dabila, 2, is heard on recording crying while she describes what had happened.
"Oh my God. Oh God. I need an ambulance," she says on the recording. "I just got home from work, and I went to check on my son and he's not breathing ... He's got foam coming out of his mouth and he's not breathing."
The woman said Dabila went down for a nap at around 4:30 p.m. and was last seen awake at 5 p.m.
The dispatcher questioned the time difference between 5 p.m. when he was last seen alive and 9 p.m. when she returned home.
"He laid him down for a nap because he didn't nap earlier," the mother said.
A 30-year-old Lakewood man, who was babysitting the boy, is in jail in connection with the Friday death of the child, who was his neighbor.
Michael Burton, of 2120 Robin Ave., lived in the apartment next door, according to Lakewood Police.
When the dispatcher asked the woman if Dabila had anything to eat that may have caused him to become ill, the boy's mother relayed the question to a man in the room named Michael.
He replied the boy had "Wheaties for breakfast."
Dabila was taken to Lakewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The county coroner performed an autopsy Saturday and ruled the toddler's death a homicide.
"All we can establish is that (the boy's death) was caused by blunt impact to the head," said coroner spokesman Powell Caesar, who declined to comment further.
Burton is being held in the Cuyahoga County jail.

Babysitter Charged With Aggravated Murder
Anthony Dabila, 2, was found dead Friday in a Robin Avenue apartment.
His baby sitter, Michael Burton, 30, was charged with aggravated
murder, felonious assault, endangering children and domestic violence,
said Ryan Miday, spokesman for the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office.
Anthony’s mother, who had arrived home from work at about 9 p.m.
Friday, found her son not breathing and immediately called police.
Paramedics arrived and the unresponsive boy was rushed to Lakewood
Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Sgt. Frank Eschweiler.
When Anthony’s mother frantically made the 911 call, Burton, who
lived across the hall, could be heard in the background. He said he put
the toddler down at about 4:30 p.m. and that the child had been napping
since about 5 p.m.
An autopsy later revealed that the child had been beaten to death and
that there were indications of a blunt force trauma to the boy’s head,
said Powell Caesar, spokesman for the county coroner’s office.

CLEVELAND -- A 31-year-old Lakewood man pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon to the aggravated murder of 2-year-old Anthony Dabila last year on Jan. 21, and was sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Pamela Barker to life in prison with parole eligibility after 20 years.
Michael Burton was babysitting the young boy in a Robin Avenue apartment when Anthony's mother arrived home at 9:20 p.m. to find him not breathing.
She called Lakewood police, who in turn called for paramedics, but the boy was pronounced dead at Lakewood Hospital.
Maria Russo, spokeswoman for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, said an autopsy showed the child was choked to death, and he also suffered blunt force trauma to his head, body and extremities with soft tissue and vascular injuries.
Burton lived across the hall from Dabila.
