The family of a missing 13-year-old Alamogordo girl is asking for the
public's help in locating the Chaparral Middle School student.
Alamogordo Department of Public Safety has issued a "be on the lookout"
alert for the girl.The girl's grandmother, Margarita "Margie"
Kicklighter, said Dejanelle "Deja" Lazo was last seen after being
dropped off at Chaparral Middle School around 7:45 a.m. Jan. 11."I
dropped her off at school," Kicklighter said. "I had no indication that
she was going to run away none. I dropped her off at College Avenue
and Aspen Drive. I usually drop her off at the corner because she walks
down to meet her friends."Lazo stands 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs
about 130 pounds and has dark brown eyes. She has dark brown
shoulder-length hair. She usually wears her hair down with the middle
top of her hair combed to the side or held back in a ponytail. At the
time of Lazo's disappearance, she was wearing blue jeans and a green
long-sleeve top with a white neckline. She was carrying a maroon
backpack."She gets good grades in school," Kicklighter said. "She
had good company at school. She has run away in the past. My
granddaughter said my rules were to strict when her mom was on the road
(doing long-haul trucking). She is 13, but looks a lot older."She said Lazo's mother,
Lareina Porras, was a trucker and away working on the road but now works for the city of Alamogordo.
"She (Lazo) has run away twice before and twice I've reported her missing," Kicklighter said.
"Each time I have taken her to the Juvenile Probation and Parole
Office. An officer with JPPO has talked to her. The first time Lazo ran
away, the police found her at a fellow student's house. The second time
she reported to school. A security officer called and told me that she
was at school. This last time she was found in a house in Tularosa."She
said she, her daughter, Porras and the whole family are worried that
something bad may have happened or might happen to Lazo."It's
the longest time that she has run away from us," she said. "The longest
time has been three days. She's very trusting. She's a young kid and
innocent. She doesn't realize the harm that could come to her. We try to
explain things to her, especially with everything that's happening
nowadays. She could fall into the criminal element who could take
advantage of her. She's very beautiful. She has sparkling eyes. She's
very loving. She doesn't know what people can really be like."
She said she has contacted relatives living in Las Cruces and El Paso, but no relatives have seen Lazo."Her
father is incarcerated," Kicklighter said. "I have called her relatives
in El Paso and Las Cruces, but no one has been contacted. I love her
very much. I want her to come home. I forgive her."Anyone with
information of the whereabouts of Dejanelle "Deja" Lazo should contact

UPDATE: Missing Alamogordo girl found late Thursday night

Alamogordo Department of Public Safety officers found the 13-year-old Chaparral Middle School girl who was reported missing by her family, an ADPS spokesman said. The girl was located around 9 p.m. Thursday.
Sgt. Dusty Collins said Dejanelle "Deja" Lazo has been located and returned safely back to her family.
"We received an anonymous tip," Collins said. "She is in good health."
Lazo's family reported her missing to ADPS officers on Thursday morning.
The girl's grandmother, Margarita "Margie" Kicklighter, said Lazo was last seen being dropped off at Chaparral Middle School around 7:45 a.m. Jan. 11.
