New Hampshire authorities said today that a three-year-old Nashua boy
was murdered and that they are searching for the child’s killer.

In a statement, Attorney General Michael A. Delaney identified the child as Christian Jackson.

The child was rushed to the Southern New Hampshire Regional Medical
Center in Nashua late last Saturday night, the statement said.

The child was pronounced dead on Sunday. The New Hampshire state
medical examiner concluded that the child was killed by blunt force
trauma.

No arrests have been made, officials said.

While investigators continue to plug
away, Christian Jackson’s family is left wondering what killed the
little boy nearly a week ago.

Christian, 3, was killed by “significant
blunt force trauma,” but police aren’t close on making an arrest,
Assistant Attorney General Benjamin Agati said.

“I have no knowledge of any arrest that’s
about to happen,” Agati said. “Each day, hopefully we get a little bit
closer, but I’m not expecting any kind of major announcements to come
anytime soon.”

Meanwhile, the toddler’s family is left to
arrange his funeral and wonder about the when, the how and, maybe most
important, the who surrounding what happened before Christian was taken
by ambulance from 63 Chestnut St. at almost midnight Feb. 19.

“It’s been hard just sitting here,” said
Christian’s second cousin, Luis Cecenas, 18. “A lot of people are saying
stuff, but it’s not true. We just want to know the truth.”

Cecenas, who is the cousin of Christian’s
mother, LaToya Jackson, said he took care of Christian from time to time
and played with him all the time. Christian was particularly fond of
his Aunt Taneeka, he said.

“It’s sad. Taneeka’s just not the same,” Cecenas said.

Cecenas said he last saw Christian a few
days before he died and that the boy appeared to be in good health. He
didn’t have visible bruises or other injuries, Cecenas said.

“He was good,” Cecenas said. “He liked to hang out with the big kids.”

The family has arranged for Christian’s
wake to be held at Farwell Funeral Home, 18 Lock St., from 6-8 p.m.
Monday. He’ll be buried in Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst St., the next
day, according to his obituary.

Authorities haven’t yet charged anyone or
identified any suspects. Police are still interviewing witnesses. The
investigation is progressing, but nothing new had developed as of Friday
evening, Agati said.

Dr. Jennie Duval, the state’s deputy chief
medical examiner, ruled Christian’s death a homicide on Thursday
following an autopsy, but has yet to pin down the exact time of his
death or offer an estimate as to when the injury was inflicted, Agati
said.

He said the time line is “a significant
factor,” and should help to narrow the field of potential suspects, as
Christian spent time in two households, in both his father’s and his
mother’s care.

Christian spent most of his time in his mother’s care and weekends with his father, Shawn Ganley , the toddler’s family said.

Someone at Ganley’s Chestnut Street
apartment called 911 shortly before midnight Feb. 19 for a medical
problem Christian was having. He was brought to Southern New Hampshire
Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, the state attorney
general’s office said.

Several people were in Ganley’s home at the time, but none have been identified.

Police have interviewed Ganley and
Jackson, Agati said, and they’re interviewing anyone who had contact
with Christian in the days before his death.

Neither Ganley nor Jackson were available to comment as of Friday evening.

On Thursday, Ganley told Boston’s Fox News
affiliate he didn’t know what had happened to his son and denied ever
hurting him. He told Fox 25 that when Jackson dropped the boy off on
Feb. 19, he was already sick, and at 11:30 Saturday night, the child
went into convulsions and died.

Ganley told the news station that his mother called 911 while he tried to perform CPR on the boy.

“I don’t know,” he told the station. “I
mean, anything could have happened. I don’t know what happened. I just
wish none of it happened.”

According to court documents, on Nov. 29,
Ganley filed a petition alleging Jackson or someone in her home was
abusing Christian, and complaining of injuries to the child.

Child welfare workers investigated, but
were unable to determine the cause of any injuries, and custody remained
unchanged. Agati declined to comment on the prior investigation.

Both of Christian’s parents have criminal records.

Jackson was convicted in 2005 on a
hindering apprehension charge stemming from a child abuse case against a
former boyfriend, Jose Meza. Meza admitted to repeatedly breaking their
infant daughter Mariah Meza’s bones because he was frustrated by her
crying.

Meza pleaded guilty to felony assault charges, and was sentenced in 2007 to at least 12 years in prison.

Jackson was 16 when the abuse was
discovered in 2004, and she later admitted helping Meza hide their
daughter’s injuries. She agreed to testify against Meza, and was
sentenced to five years on probation.

Mariah was put into foster care, and Jackson has been unable to regain custody, a friend said.

Christian had two other siblings, according to his obituary: an older brother, Jeremiah, and a younger sister, Ariena.

Ganley was convicted in 2004 and
sentenced to 2½ to seven years in prison on charges of first-degree
assault, attempted first-degree assault, burglary, possession of heroin
and four counts of simple assault.

Ganley admitted to trying to stab his
girlfriend after she confronted him about his drug use, and then to
stabbing his cousin, John Ganley, in the chest after his cousin tried to
break up a fight between him and his girlfriend.

He was most recently released from prison
April 27, officials said, and he remains on parole, with an additional
suspended sentence.

While Agati agreed Christian’s death
would likely be classified as a crime, authorities have yet to determine
whether it might qualify as first- or second-degree murder, or some
other offense, he said.

“We’re definitely not in that point of the investigation that we could begin to classify the offense,” Agati said.

Christian’s great-aunt, Lisa Dorval, said
the family is plagued not only with grief over his death, but by
unanswered questions about what happened to him.

“Everything’s just making us go crazy
because we don’t know what happened,” she said. “Nobody can point a
finger yet. We just know where he was. We’re just waiting for answers
from the Police Department about what’s going on.

“All I want is the facts, the real answers, you know?”

The father of a three-year-old boy who
was murdered earlier this year has been arrested on a slew of charges
unrelated to his son’s death.Shawn Ganley, 30, of 63 Chestnut
St., was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with second degree
assault, first degree assault, robbery and two counts of the sale of a
narcotic drug, all felonies.Police said Ganley choked an adult
female whose name was not immediately released by police, and also
allegedly tried to hit the woman with his vehicle. She was not injured
in the incident, according to a release.Ganley is also accused of punching an adult male in an effort to steal from him. Ganley knew both victims, police said. The
Nashua Police Department’s Narcotic Intelligence Division also
conducted a separate investigation that determined Ganley allegedly was
responsible for the distribution of heroin.Ganley is being held on $25,000 cash bail pending arraignment Wednesday at the Nashua District Court. Prosecutors
are continuing to investigate the homicide of Ganley’s son, Christian
Jackson, but are not releasing any new information on the case.It
has been nearly two months since Christian died. Emergency personnel
went to Ganley's apartment on Feb. 19 after receiving a 911 call. The
child died the following morning at Southern New Hampshire Regional
Medical Center. The medical examiner later ruled his death a homicide,
the result of blunt force trauma. No arrests have been made in connection with the child’s murder.Ganley
is a convicted felon who spent seven years behind bars for stabbing a
relative in the chest and several other violent crimes, according to
court records. The boy’s mother, Latoya Jackson, 23, of 46 Myrtle St.,
also has a criminal record, and was convicted in 2005 of trying to hide
injuries on her 3-month-old daughter.

1 Year Later, 3-Year-Old's Beating Death Still Unsolved
Christian Jackson Died From Blunt Force Trauma

UPDATED 11:44 AM EST Feb 20, 2012

NASHUA, N.H. —One year after a 3-year-old's beating death at an apartment in Nashua, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been named.

Last February, investigators said Christian Jackson died of blunt force trauma to the head, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Police interviewed friends and family members who were with Jackson in the hours and days before he died, but no suspects were named.

Authorities would not say who was inside the home when the boy was found.

On the anniversary of his death, his father's former girlfriend, Allison Clegg, their daughter, and Christian's grandmother, Carol Ganley, gathered in Greeley Park in Nashua to remember him.

"It is hard, but I am really happy Christian is in a good place now, in heaven. He is an angel watching over us," Clegg said.

The group said they had hoped more people would come, including Christian's mother, Latoya Jackson. The small group celebrated the boy's life by releasing balloons in his memory.

Latoya Jackson said she did not attend the vigil because she does not feel comfortable around her ex-boyfriend's family. She said she instead brought flowers to her son's grave and spent time with him.

Ben Agati with the Attorney General's Office told WMUR News 9 that the case is still active. Agati said he spoke with a police detective on Monday about a new lead in the case.

Christian's family said the waiting has been hard.

"It has ripped our family apart. It is horrible, just horrible," Ganley said.
