Father charged with murder
Darrell Huff
JAMESTOWN -- The father of a four-year-old girl who died right after Christmas has been charged with her murder, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Darrell Huff, 49, of Bear Huff Loop, Jamestown, is charged with one count of aggravated child abuse, one count of aggravated child neglect, and one count of felony murder in the case, says an announcement by the TBI. The little girl died of a morphine overdose, prosecutors allege.
"On December 24, 2010, four-year-old Brittany Huff was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and she died three days later," the TBI announcement says.
An autopsy showed the death was caused by a morphine overdose, and the morphine belonged to her father, Darrell Huff, the TBI alleges.
A spokesperson for the TBI told the Herald-Citizen today that no further information on the case could be released at this time.
The Herald-Citizen attempted to contact Fentress Sheriff Tony Choate, but was unable to reach him.
Reportedly, relatives brought the child to the hospital in Jamestown on December 24, and from there, she was transferred to the UT hospital in Knoxville.
It is not clear when the TBI began its investigation into the case. The Fentress County grand jury heard evidence in the case recently and issued indictments against Huff.
He was arrested Thursday and was booked into the Fentress County jail, his bond set at $200,000.
