Columbia police are looking for 8-year-old Sedrick L. Lewis Jr., who they say was taken from his school by his father.
Sedrick Lewis Jr.
Police were notified around 11:40 a.m. Monday of an incident involving the child, who attends Blue Ridge Elementary, according to a Columbia police news release from Sgt. Jill Wieneke.
Officers learned the child’s father, Sedrick L. Lewis Sr., picked him up from school without his mother’s permission. A court order currently prohibits unsupervised visits between the father and son.
The father, 38, has refused to return the child after multiple contacts by police, the news release said.
Residents are asked to be on the lookout for Lewis. He drives a silver Cadillac, Missouri license SGSCAD and is described as a 165-pound black male, 5 feet, 8 inches.
He has a tattoo on his upper right arm that says “LEW” and a cross on his left arm.
Police previously issued a statement under with the subject of Amber Alert, but Wieneke said the incident does not meet the Amber Alert requirements.

Re: SEDRICK L LEWIS JR - 8 yo - Columbia MO
A Miami man, possibly armed, who is wanted in Columbia for parental
kidnapping managed to escape law enforcement officers Monday night, Feb.
28.
Sedrick Lewis Sr. was observed by sheriff's deputies sitting on a couch
in his residence when they knocked on the door. According to the police
report, Lewis was observed near what appeared to be a handgun when the
lights in the room were turned off. The deputies and highway patrol
trooper took cover behind their cars.
After a short standoff, a female resident exited the building and
surrendered to police. She gave police permission to search the
residence, where officers discovered the missing boy sleeping.
Lewis, however, was not in the home.
Police reports did not say whether the handgun they observed was recovered in the home or if it was gone.
Lewis is currently on probation for non-payment of child support.
According to police, Lewis, Sr. did not have permission to pick the
child up from school and currently was under a court order in effect
which prohibits unsupervised visits between the boy and his father.
Columbia Public Schools spokesman Michelle Baumstark told media the
father was a familiar face at Blue Ridge Elementary School and visited
his son there frequently. She said the school had no reason to believe
the father was a threat because the mother never filed the necessary
paperwork to show her legal custody of the boy. She has now.
The child was reunited with his mother early Tuesday morning.
