Marcus Herrero, 12, has been missing since Friday
Police and the FBI are searching for a 12-year-old boy they
believe may have been abducted Friday from his adoptive family in
Colorado Springs.
Marcus Herrero went missing after boarding a bus from South Murray
Boulevard to the Boys and Girls Club in the 1400 block of South Chelton
Road, police said.
A teacher and others saw him on the bus, but he never checked in at
the Boys and Girls Club, authorities said. Police said they wanted to
exhaust other leads before asking for the public's help finding the boy.
"There was a concern public attention may have made it even more
difficult to locate him," police said in an unsigned news release.
Herrero ran away from his home on Allison Drive in southeast Colorado
Springs in 2010 and early 2011, but was found in his neighborhood
within a day. This time, he had been in contact with his biological
mother, who was recently released from prison, said Colorado Springs
police Sgt. Steve Noblitt.
If anyone has information about Marcus, please call police at
444-7000. Those wishing to remain anonymous my call CrimeStoppers at
634-STOP (7867), or text CSPD and your tip to TIP411 (847411).

Police, FBI Search For Missing 12-Yr-Old Boy
Asking For Public's Help
March 16, 2011
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado Springs police and the FBI are searching for a 12-year-old boy who was reported missing Friday in Colorado Springs.
Marcus Herrero, 12, was last seen in the area around the Boys and Girls Club in the 1400 block of S. Chelton Road. He lives in the 4500 block of Allison Dr., also in Colorado Springs. His adoptive parents reported him missing on March 11 at 5:45 p.m
The 12-year-old has run away two other times, once late last year and once earlier this year.
However, both times he was found within 24 hours around his neighborhood, police said.In an attempt to follow-up on leads, police didn't release information sooner over fears the public's ttention could make it harder to find the boy, Sgt. Steve Noblitt said.
Police are not sure if Herrero ran away again or if it could be a possible kidnapping. Police also don't know if the boy is in jeopardy or not, Noblitt said.Police have not issued an Amber Alert because the case doesn't meet Amber Alert initiation guidelines, Noblitt said.
The National Center of Missing and Exploited Children consider all children, regardless of a runaway, missing or abducted status, 13 years of age and under to be endangered.
FBI agents are asking people in the area if they've seen the boy.Police sent out a message Wednesday afternoon to residents within a 1 1/2 mile radius of the Boys and Girls Club. Below is a copy of the message:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado Springs police say they now think 12-year-old Marcus Herrero is a runaway and not a victim of a kidnapping.Herrero
was reported missing over a week ago, and police were investigating to
determine if he was a victim of a kidnapping or if he was a runaway,
said Sgt. Steve Noblitt. Now police think Herrero is a runaway, said Noblitt.Hererro
has contacted his parents and told them he no longer wants to live with
them and this is part of the reason police no longer think he is a
victim, said Noblitt. As a result of the determination that
Herrero is not the victim of foul play, police said they will be
adjusting their investigation accordingly, but Noblitt stressed that
officers will still be working to locate and return Hererro home.
Anyone determined to be harboring Herrero could also face charges.
