"Infant Jane" GOODWIN - 2 yo (2009) - Columbia SC

A Columbia man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison in connection with
the 2009 death of his 2-year-old daughter.Demetrius
Goodwin was found guilty of homicide by child abuse, according to a
news release from the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.According
to reports, Goodwin said his daughter had fallen down the stairs on Feb.
5, 2009. He took her to the emergency room the next day, where she was
pronounced dead.
Later, according to reports, he admitted squeezing the child to death.
He was arrested in April 2009.Jurors deliberated for 3½ hours before returning a guilty verdict.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says the sheriff's department has
arrested a man on homicide by child abuse charges. Officials
say 23-year-old Demetrius Goodwin was arrested Wednesday after an
incident where he reported that his 2-year-old daughter had fallen down
the stairs on Feb. 5.

Lott says Goodwin took the child to the emergency room on
Feb. 6, 2009 where she was pronounced dead. Richland
County Coroner Gary Watts says an autopsy was conducted and Goodwin's
statements did not match the medical findings. Watts says a
detailed medical examination and a thorough investigation were conducted
to confirm the initial suspicions and injury patterns -- both the
medical examinations and investigation concluded that the child was
actually suffocated to death.
