SULLIVAN —
Police have located an 8-year-old Sullivan County girl who had been reported missing Sunday evening from her home.
Ashlee Samagaio was found about 10 a.m. today hiding under a bed in her
stepgrandparents’ home, Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts said.
“She apparently did not want to do home chores, so she ran down there and hid,” he said.
The stepgrandparents’ house had been searched by police officers and by
family, and the child had not been found. Police had contacted the FBI
and a missing children specialist was also called in, Watts said. “She
was found underneath a bed by a relative after another home search,”
Watts said.
The child’s stepgrandparents’ house is about “a one mile walk” from her home, Watts said.

8-year-old apologizes for search
SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) - An 8-year-old girl back at home after missing for nearly 14 hours. When
her father noticed that Ashlee Samagaio of Sullivan was missing Sunday
night, it alarmed both her family and the community.
She had seemingly disappeared without a trace. A smiling little girl, her photo plastered on the internet the moment Ashlee Samagaio was reported missing.
Flyers were printed within the hour, as a community and police desperately searched to find the 8-year-old.
Monday morning Ashlee was found at her grandmother's hiding behind a bed. "I
checked everywhere I thought she could fit and was unable to locate
her," Sullivan Assistant Police Chief Micheal Garrett said. "I'm sure if
she thought she was in trouble she was hiding from me as well."
Police said she walked to her grandmother's, upset over some household chores.
For 14 hours her family had no idea what happened to Ashlee, imagining the worst.
Now, Ashlee's home, putting an end to the nightmare for her family. "Tears of joy, the unknown was the worst part, just having her back in my arms," Eric Samagaio, her father said. Ashlee had a message for those who searched. "I'm sorry for what I did and I should apologize to everybody," Ashlee Samagaio said.
Her family is thankful to all of those who helped search for their little girl. "Hundreds
of people came out and pulled together, every law enforcement agency I
appreciate everything they did, it was hard," Eric said.
A long night of worry and lots of manpower but a happy ending for the Samagaio family. Samagaio
family is hosting a cook-out Monday night at their Sullivan home to
thank all of the law enforcement, volunteers and community who helped
search for Ashlee.
Police said this situation is an important reminder of keeping up-to-date information on your child's appearance and photos.http://www.wthitv.com/dpp/news/local/8-year-old-apologizes-for-search
