Cleaning Landlord Finds Girl, 1, Alone
Child's Mother Was In Jail At Time; Boyfriend Now Charged With Neglect
POSTED: Wednesday, April 6, 2011
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --
When a landlord found the 14-month-old daughter of a woman who was in jail
alone in a rental home on Jacksonville's Northside on Monday afternoon,
police and the Department of Children and Families began investigating. When the mother's boyfriend arrived at the house three hours later, he was arrested on a charge of child neglect.According
to the arrest report, the landlord and another person went to the house
Monday to get a lease signed. They found no one home and what looked
like an abandoned property. When there was no answer at the door, they
let themselves in and began cleaning out the apartment. After
about two hours of cleaning, the landlord pulled a blanket off a bed and
found the young girl lying on the bed against the wall."The baby
was so cute; she looked like a darling," she told Channel 4's Emily
Turner. "When I found out it was a little baby, I just could not believe
it."The landlord immediately called 911 and police and paramedics responded.

"When I first saw the child, I observed her sitting ... near the
headboard and she was very calm," Officer T.M. Reed wrote in his report.
"I observed no signs of injuries on her and she was not unkempt."Information
about the girl was redacted from the police report. She was immediately
taken for a medical check. A doctor said the girl had a lump behind her
right ear, a bruise on her neck, scratches on her back, right thigh and
knee and an oval scab on one foot. She was also dehydrated. The
officer was still at the apartment investigating when Adrian Peterson
Jr. arrived at the apartment. According to the report, Peterson admitted
that he left the child alone, but he said it was the first time he had
done that.Peterson, 23, was charged with felony child neglect and booked into the Duval County Jail. The
child's mother, Amanda Anderson, 22, was arrested on March 1 on charges
of marijuana possession, failure to appear in court and violation of
probation. She pleaded guilty to charges and was released Tuesday -- the
day after her daughter was found alone. The girl was turned over to the care of her grandmother. Anderson has two other children, but they were not living with her.
