Naked Woman Does Not Recall Missing Child
May 21, 2011 04:35 AM EDT
A naked woman was discovered yesterday morning walking along
the road in Humboldt County, CA. The woman turned out to be Claudia
Pedreros, who was reported missing just hours earlier. However, Pedreros
was reported missing with her 2-year-old daughter, who still hasn't been located as of tonight.
Claudia Pedreros is a Spanish-speaking resident of Humboldt County who is believed to
suffer from extreme mental issues. Initially it was believed that she
was under the influence of narcotics or another substance when she was
discovered wandering aimlessly in the nude. Police noticed a trail of
children's toys and other items strewn down the road, leading to her
parked car which was empty. The 2-year-old child is Sophie Parker
Pedreros, a small toddler with auburn hair. She hasn't been located
since Claudia was reported missing and the woman doesn't even remember
having a daughter--or so she claims. Claudia Pedreros told police she
had no recollection of having a child, nor does she remember how she
made it to the part of Humboldt County in which she was found. This
extremely strange occurrence is heartbreaking and a little suspicious. An
investigation has revealed that the woman used a credit card while she
and her daughter were missing. If she has the mental capacity to drive
around and use her debit cards, how could she simply forget that she has
a daughter? Something smells fishy, but hopefully the girl is found soon, unharmed.

Deputies and rescue crews searched Friday for a missing 2 ½-year-old
Humboldt County girl whose mother was found walking Friday morning
naked on the side of a Trinity County highway.
Officials said that about 9 a.m. the mother, 30-year-old Claudia
Pedreros of McKinleyville, was found walking south along the side of
Highway 3 above Coffee Creek. Pedreros also goes by the last name of
Parker.
The Hispanic woman matched the description of a woman whose family
reported her and her daughter, Sophia Parker Pedreros, missing Friday
morning out of the McKinleyville area, Trinity County sheriff's
spokeswoman Lynn Ward said.
The woman's car, a silver Kia sedan with license plate number
6GKR186, was found parked at the Trinity River campground near Coffee
Creek, officials said.
Humboldt County sheriff's Sgt. Wayne Hanson said deputies thought
she was suffering from mental health problems or was under the
influence of narcotics.
With the help of an interpreter, Trinity County detectives interviewed the woman Friday afternoon, Ward said.
"She has no recollection of having a daughter or how she got into Trinity County," Ward said.
Family members in Humboldt County also were being interviewed, Hanson said.
Trinity County sheriff's deputies were focusing their search on a
10-mile stretch of Highway 3 where it appeared contents of Pedreros'
car were tossed out.
Ward described the items as "miscellaneous children's toys."
Pedreros wasn't injured, but she did have some minor scratches from falling down, Hanson said.
The woman was last seen in Willow Creek at 6 a.m. Friday, Ward said.
Ward said the woman would have had to have driven east on Highway 299 and north on Highway 3 to end up in Coffee Creek.
Ward said she hopes someone might have spotted the Kia along the route and that they could relay the details on to searchers.
The woman also reportedly used a debit card around 12:30 a.m. in McKinleyville, Ward said.
The girl is described as 3 feet tall with long, auburn-colored hair.
Her mother is around 5 feet tall and weighs 140 pounds. She has brown
eyes and black hair. Her Facebook page says she's originally from Chile.
The Humboldt County sheriff's office sent deputies to search Highway
299 from McKinleyville to Weaverville, Ward said. Trinity County
deputies focused on Highway 3.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew from Redding searched
for the girl from the air. Ward said search dogs also were sent Friday
afternoon from Shasta County.
Crews planned to continue their search throughout the weekend.
Ward asked anyone with information on the girl's whereabouts to call
the Trinity County Sheriff's Office at 623-2611 ext. 1. The Humboldt
County Sheriff's Office also can be reached at 707-445-7251.

A missing Humboldt County girl was found dead Saturday afternoon in
the Trinity River and her mother will be charged on suspicion of her
daughter's murder, Trinity County Sheriff Bruce Haney said.
Search and rescue personnel from the Trinity County Sheriff's Office
found the young girl's body about 1:20 p.m. in the river north of Coffee
Creek, officials said.
Claudia Predreros, 30, of McKinleyville and her 2-year-old daughter,
Sophia Parker Pedreros, were reported missing Friday morning from the
McKinleyville area, Trinity County sheriff's spokeswoman Lynn Ward said.
Claudia Predreros had been arrested on suspicion of felony child
endangerment before authorities found her daughter's body. The sheriff's
office now is charging Predreros with murder, Haney said.
Sheriff's officials said no other information will be released in the case until Monday while the investigation continues.
Also participating in the search for Sophia Pedreros were the
Humboldt, Shasta and Siskiyou county sheriff's offices, California
Highway Patrol, Tehama County Search and Rescue, the Coffee Creek and
Trinity Center volunteer fire departments, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Earlier Saturday, the Trinity County Sheriff's Office provided a
timeline leading up to the mother's and daughter's disappearances on
Friday.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office determined that at 12:30 a.m.
Friday, Claudia Predreros withdrew money from an ATM in McKinleyville
and at 2 a.m. her father-in-law saw her reading a book in the family's
living room.
The father-in-law got up again about 5 a.m. and checked the house to
find Pedreros was gone. At 5:30 a.m. her dog was found in Willow Creek
and later in the day her cellphone and driver's license were found near a
portable restroom in the area.
About 9 a.m. Friday, Claudia Pedreros was found walking without any
clothes along the side of Highway 3 above Coffee Creek, officials said.
She also goes by the last name of Parker.

Pedreros ordered to stand trial for death of child; agent says McKinleyville woman gave conflicting accounts
By Jim Schultz/The Redding Record Searchlight

WEAVERVILLE -- A Trinity County judge on Tuesday ordered a McKinleyville woman to stand trial on charges she drowned her 21/2-year-old daughter in the Trinity River this past spring.
Superior Court Judge James Woodward made his ruling after a three-hour preliminary hearing that included testimony from an FBI special agent from Redding, who interviewed Claudia Pedreros shortly before the naked body of her daughter was recovered from the river on May 21.
FBI special agent Peter Jackson, who is fluent in Spanish, said that the Chile-born and raised Pedreros told him she wanted to kill herself and her daughter.
He said she apparently wanted to do so because she was unhappy with the state of her marriage and that her daughter would continue to cry and wouldn't leave her alone.
”Her intent was to kill herself,” Jackson said, but adding that Pedreros did not take her own life because she told him she was afraid of dying.
”I asked her if she killed Sophie, and she said, 'I did. I killed her,'” Jackson testified.
Jackson also said during his testimony that Pedreros gave bizarre and conflicting accounts of what happened to her daughter during a surreal two-hour interview with her.
He agreed with a defense attorney who characterized the interview as a “a chain of inconsistencies” that included her stating she deeply loved her husband and that her child was the center of her life.
At times, Jackson said, Pedreros inexplicably sang during their interview, played with her hair, laughed, apparently prayed to God, incorrectly told him she was pregnant and denied she had a child or a husband. Her husband Robert Parker listened to the testimony from a second-row courtroom seat.
”Did that (singing during the interview) strike you as odd?'” Arcata defense attorney Russell Clanton asked.
”It did,” Jackson said.
At other times during the interview, he said, Pedreros admitted drowning her daughter as she recited “The Lord's Prayer” in what was intended to be a double
suicide.
As Pedreros scrunched over the defense table writing in a tablet and glancing around the courtroom and at her husband, Jackson described in gripping testimony how Pedreros related to him how she allegedly killed Sophia.
She told him her daughter began to cry as they entered the water because it was cold, he said.
As she hugged her daughter closely as she continued to cry, Pedreros told Jackson she held her underwater while reciting “The Lord's Prayer” until she was dead, he testified.
Although she admitted what she did was “wrong” and “bad,” he said she also said that suicide is not the same as a killing because she said she did it “out of love.”
Pedreros also said she slipped while wading into the Trinity River with her child in her arms.
As she fell, she told Jackson, she lost grip of her daughter, who was swept away, he testified, adding that Pedreros also said she had no idea what happened to her daughter.
”She changed her story several times,” he said.
