12 jurors, 5 alternates set for Anthony trial
By Brandon Hamilton
After going through 160 prospective jurors, 20 jurors finally emerged Friday afternoon in Clearwater. Judge Belvin Perry had a deadline of 3 p.m. Friday to question the last juror, and he made it with three minutes to spare.
The last potential juror was added around 3:56 p.m. Friday after court was stopped several times, one time for an outburst from a woman who shouted in reference to Casey Anthony, "She killed somebody anyway."
Casey Anthony's defense team used its final strike to remove a juror, bringing the total number of jurors to 19. After the last strike, Judge Perry denied the team their request for additional challenges.
Perry during the swearing in process read the jurors their rights and what to expect during the next two months in Orlando. Jurors will be permitted to use devices such as a Kindle or MP3 player. While using those devices, they must turn off all internet connections and avoid listening to the radio. All cell phones will be kept by deputies and conversations will also be monitored.
“There will be an allotted time each day to make phone calls to your families and to attend to other pressing personal matter,” Perry said. “At no time may you speak of any detail or in any manner communicate information related to the case.”
Come Tuesday at 9 a.m., 12 jurors along with five alternates will decide the fate of Casey Marie Anthony.
