Since news spread on Facebook that Danville teen Allison Bayliss was missing and at-risk of harming herself,
the community has responded with an outpouring of support both online
and in person as volunteers from throughout the Bay Area join the search
for her.
A team of about 60 law enforcement officials from a number of
agencies are combing beaches, trails, water and bluff areas in the Marin
Headlands, Ocean Beach and Land's End in San Francisco, using horses,
helicopters and boats. They recently expanded the search to parts of the
city as well.
Many friends, family members and volunteers from Danville headed to
the city as early as 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, when word spread the Bayliss'
bike had been found in a parking lot near the Golden Gate Bridge.
About 50 volunteers were in the area at 2 p.m., waiting at the base
camp near the bridge Tuesday afternoon for further instructions about
how to help.
Troy Corti, a 2002 graduate of San Ramon Valley High, is part of the volunteer effort.
Corti, who grew up in the San Ramon Valley but now lives in San Francisco, heard about Bayliss from text messages and Facebook.
"I thought it (volunteering) was something I should do," he said.
Corti said the effort exemplifies the strong sense of community in the Danville area.
"It says a lot about the San Ramon Valley community," he said.
"Everyone is trying to do whatever they can to help. Even those who
can't make it out there are doing their part."
A Facebook page, Find Alliy Bayliss,
created Monday night for the search, had grown to more than 9,000
supporters by Tuesday afternoon. The page is serving as a message board
for people to share their prayers and other thoughts, as well as to
relay information for people wanting to help in the search, or get
updates about the search.
Bayliss was last seen at San Ramon Valley High on Monday morning, and police have said she may be at risk of harming herself.
Her black and purple Diamondback mountain bike was found chained to a
bike rack in a parking lot at Fort Point near the Golden Gate Bridge
early Tuesday morning.
She was last seen wearing a red zip-up hoodie jacket, jeans and
mismatching flip-flop shoes, one green and one yellow. She is 5-foot-8,
has blue eyes and blonde hair and weighs 130 pounds (see photo).
If you want to help:
National Park Officials said they no longer need people to search in
the areas near the Golden Gate Bridge. People can still help with the
search in other parts of San Francisco.
Volunteers can go to the command post on Lincoln Boulevard in San
Francisco. The nearest cross street is Armistead Road, near the entrance
to the Golden Gate Bridge. For more information, call John at

The police have resumed their search for a missing Danville teen,
Allison Bayliss, 15, who was last seen on her way to school last Monday.
Allison's bike was found locked to a rack in the parking lot near the
Golden Gate Bridge. A search of Allison's computer found directions to
the Dublin BART station and for the Embarcadero to the Golden Gate
Bridge. This find lead the search team to her bicycle.
The search is taking place on both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge said Howard Levitt, Director of Communications.
The flyers that are being distributed with Bayliss' picture on them say that she left a suicide note at her home.
Allison goes to San Ramon Valley High School and is a Sophomore.
A vigil if planned at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Danville Congregational Church at 989 San Ramon Valley Blvd.
Allison was wearing a red zip hood jacket, jeans and mismatching
flip-flops, one green and one yellow. She is 5'8" tall with blue eyes

New evidence about missing teen Allison 'Alliy'
Bayliss has led investigators to believe she took her own life at the
Golden Gate Bridge earlier this week, a California Highway Patrol
spokeswoman said today.
An intensive search began after Allison, 15, was reported missing by her family on Monday. She was last seen at about 8 a.m. Monday on her bike in front of
San Ramon Valley High School in Danville. Her bike was later found near
the bridge.Danville police have said that Allison was considered at-risk and that no criminal activity is suspected. Additional details discovered on Tuesday have led investigators to
believe Allison took her life at the bridge on Monday morning, CHP Capt.
Amy Mangan said today. Mangan said there are cameras on both
sides of the bridge, but wouldn't comment if officers had footage of
any incident related to Allison.

Re: ALLISON BAYLISS - 15 yo - San Ramon/San Fran CA
Today officials with the California Highway Patrol announced that the
search for missing Danville teen Alliy Bayliss has switched to a water
recovery operation in the area near the Golden Gate Bridge, ending the
ground search that began early Tuesday morning.
California Highway Patrol Captain Amy Mangan addressed the media with this statement:
Mangan went on to say they were not in the possesion of a suicide
note and "unfortunately sometimes there is no recovery in these types of
situations."
Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins said he received the news early Wednesday morning.
“This is a very sad outcome,” he said. “Our hearts go out to the
Bayliss family at this time, and we ask that you keep them in your
thoughts.”
School district spokesman Terry Koehne gave this statement about
Bayliss, a member of the junior varsity swim team and a "very good
student academically."
"It's a terrible tragedy," he said. "I think this community went from being hopeful to having our worst fears realized."
The Bayliss family has extended their deepest gratitude and thanks to
law enforcement, family, friends and the many volunteers who put in so
much effort on behalf of their daughter.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Danville Congregational Church, 989 San Ramon Valley Blvd.
10:00 a.m. Alliy's bike, which was found locked up Tuesday at a
parking lot near the Golden Gate Bridge, is now gone. Simpkins says no
new information is available yet.
8 a.m.: The search for a missing Danville girl who could be suicidal
has resumed, according to Howard Levitt, director of communications for
the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Levitt told KTVU news this morning that the search, taking place on
both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge, will cover similar ground as
Tuesday's efforts, including in the water. He said dozens of searchers
are on the ground.
The widespread effort to find 15-year-old Allison Bayliss began about
5 a.m. Tuesday after her bike was found in San Francisco. It has drawn
dozens of law enforcement agencies and volunteers and a blast of media
attention.
Levitt said Tuesday night the search for Bayliss, last seen Monday
morning at San Ramon Valley High School, was called off at 9 p.m. when
darkness fell.
He said the best thing for concerned community members to do is to
"continue to get the word out to the broader community," rather than
helping with a physical search.
A Find Alliy Bayliss Facebook page that was created Monday night
and attracted more than 11,000 followers was no longer live as of
Wednesday morning, reportedly because of negative comments. A new page
can be found here.
The social networking site has been a key communication tool in the
efforts to find her, with family and friends posting updates by the
minute and strangers offering their prayers and support.
Kevin Sawcheck, a friend of the family, said a search of Alliy's
computer found directions to the Dublin BART station, as well as
directions from the Embarcadero to the Golden Gate Bridge using Google
Maps bicycle directions. This path led the search team to her bicycle,
found locked at a bike rack in a parking lot at Fort Point near the
Golden Gate Bridge.
The area is blocked off by yellow police tape, though this case is
not believed to be criminal, and her helmet sits on the ground next to
her bike.
"Everyone is just focused on finding Alliy," said Sawcheck. "We are
obviously very worried. Alliy, please come back. We all love you and
want you to come back home."
Sawcheck said plans are for the search to continue as long as necessary.
A picture of Alliy, a girl most of the Bay Area never knew before
Tuesday, is emerging. Clearly athletic, her swimmer's tan visible
underneath her electric blue homecoming dress, Alliy has a wide smile,
first in braces and then without — a family friend pointed out she got
them off earlier this month.
Alliy, who has three younger siblings, attended elementary school in
Danville and is a sophomore at San Ramon Valley High School.
A multi-denominational vigil is planned for her and her family, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Danville Congregational Church, 989 San Ramon Valley Blvd. According to the Facebook post: "All are welcome. We will be handing out candles, fliers, etc."
Allison was last seen wearing a red zip hoodie jacket, jeans and
mismatching flip-flops, one green and one yellow. Allison is 5-foot-8,
has blue eyes and blonde hair and weighs 130 pounds (see photo). She had
a black and purple Diamondback mountain bike with her.

California Highway Patrol Captain Amy Mangan addressed the media with this statement:
"We have information that came to us in our search and rescue efforts
yesterday as well as our investigative efforts that indicates Allison
walked onto the Golden Gate Bridge shortly after 10 a.m., on Monday
morning. It does not appear Allison walked off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Our investigative efforts now switch to one of a possible suicide. The
Danville Police Department is currently with Allison's family as well as
staff from the Town of Danville to provide them council and support.
The efforts of California Highway Patrol, U.S. Parks Police, National
Parks Service, U.S. Coast Guard and the Golden Gate Bridge District will
