MATTHEW BARNES - 14 yo /Autistic - Hayward (Across the Bay from San Fran) CA

Hayward CA ---- Authorities are asking the public's help in locating a 14-year-old boy who has been missing since 10 a.m. Wednesday. Matthew Barnes is described in a Hayward Police Department news release as being autistic and emotionally disabled. He
was last seen at Hayward Adult School, 22100 Princeton St., Wednesday
morning. After arriving for his special education classes, he was
excused to use the restroom, at which point he was seen by a teacher
running away from the school.School employees notified the police shortly afterward. Barnes
has run away approximately six times in the last two years, police
said. In the past, he has been found at or around BART stations,
sometimes days after being reported missing. According to Lt. Dave Lundgren, Barnes has been found at the end of BART lines in Pittsburg and Daly City. Barnes
is black, 5-foot-8 and 180 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black hooded
sweatshirt with white stripes on the sleeves and long jean shorts. He
was also carrying a red backpack. Anyone with information about the teen's whereabouts may contact local police or Hayward's dispatch at 510-293-7000.

A 14-year-old boy

first being spotted at the 12th Street BART station, said Lt. Roger
Keener. Barnes is being taken to the Hayward Police Department.He
was last seen at Hayward Adult School about 10 a.m. Wednesday. After

say is autistic and emotionally disabled, has run away six times in the
past two years. In the past, police said, Matthew had run away and was
found at or around BART stations, sometimes days after being reported
missing.Hayward police, knowing this history, contacted BART
police and got flyers distributed to station agents and train operators.
Matthew was recognized at the 12th Street station but got on a bus
before he could be stopped, Keener said. Police eventually contacted the
bus and got it to stop at 10th and Fallon streets, where he was taken
into police custody.Kenner said once Matthew arrives in Hayward,
police will hold an intervention involving family and school staff to
minimize the likelihood of another repeat incident.
