Raleigh, N.C. — Authorities issued a statewide Amber Alert for a 1-year-old Greene County girl on Thursday night.
Cathy Victoria Wells is described as a white female, 2 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 18 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith said the child was abducted by her parents, Christy Dubois and Rodney Wells. He said on Monday a judge terminated their parental rights and ordered the child be turned over to social services. The parents did not comply with that order and are now missing.
Smith said he didn't know the couple had lost custody of their child.
Dubois, 35, is described as a white female with brown hair. Rodney Wells, 39, is described as a white man, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He has black hair.
Authorities say the three are traveling in a 2001 blue Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck with North Carolina tag number XT1240.
They were last seen on Oakdale Road in Snow Hill and are believed to be headed to Mississippi.
Pictures of the girl and her biological parents were not available.
Anyone with information about the abduction is asked to call the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 252-747-3411 or 911.
Both Wells and Dubois have criminal records in North Carolina. Wells has been convicted of selling drugs, while Dubois has larceny and trespassing convictions, according to state Department of Correction records.

Poster's Note: Still haven't been able to find out why the parents lost custody, but wanted to make sure it wasn't because of an "unkempt" house.

6 P.M. Update: Missing Greene County child found in Mississippi
GREENE COUNTY, N.C.- The guardians of a missing one year old girl- who was the subject of a state wide Amber Alert - still don't know where she is- even after sheriff's deputies say they have found her safe and sound.
A Greene County judge issued the alert for Cathy Victoria Wells Thursday night after authorities say her own parents abducted her and left the state.
"I just want my grand baby home,” said Cathy Wells. “I just want my grand baby home."
Cathy and Russell Wells say they became temporary guardians of their son's one year old daughter Cathy
three months ago. That happened because Greene County Social Services
got a call about domestic violence going on next door where Cathy lived with her parents Rodney Wells and Christy Dubois - the two had been married, but are currently divorced. They say Social Services should never have been involved.
"They have made an awful, bad mistake of this precious child that we love so much,” said Russell. “They done us wrong."
On Monday, a judge granted custody of Cathy to the Dept. of Social Services.
When Rodney and Christy came back from court, they put Cathy in the car and drove to Mississippi to stay with Christie’s family.
Wells says they broke the court order because the judge
never explained why. "We don't know why. We don't know why they took
the youngin'. I don't have no criminal record, my wife don't have no
criminal record."
Sheriff Lemmie Smith says it wasn't until last night that the judge issued the Amber Alert. Within hours deputies traced Dubois' cell phone signal to her relative's home in Cleveland, Mississippi.
"What's going through my mind, especially for a child, to locate
that child and hope that child is safe because that touches you dear to
your heart you know that a child was involved,” said Sheriff Smith.
Smith never knew whether little Cathy was in danger- but says social workers flew her back to Greene County.
The Wells’ still don't know where she is.
"Like somebody ripped my heart out,” said Cathy.
“It’s not right,” added Russell.
Nine on Your Side tried talking with Social Services to get some answers- but none of the staff would comment.
The Wells say their son and Dubois are driving back home to Greene County.
Sheriff Smith says Social Services are now investigating this case and it will be up to a judge to press charges against the child’s parents for breaking court orders.

GREENE COUNTY, N.C. - The Amber Alert for a missing one-year-old girl has been canceled.
Cathy Wells of Greene County
is safe and on her way back to the east this afternoon after
authorities say her parents abducted her and fled the state earlier
this week.
Sheriff Lemmie Smith said Cathy's parents Christy Dubois and Rodney Wells lost a custody battle with the Department of Social Services Monday. Smith said before DSS could pick Cathy up, her parents were already driving her out of the state.
The sheriffs office located Cathy this morning by tracing her mothers cell phone signal to a relatives' home in Cleveland Mississippi. Both Dubois and Wells were there and they cooperated with local officials in turning her over.
Social Services never relased Cathy's picture and although she was missing as early as Monday, a judge did not issue the Amber Alert until late last night.
Sheriff Smith said Social Services is now investigating this case and it will be up to a judge to press charges against Cathy's parents.
