WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) --
A 12-year-old girl from Whittier is missing, and police believe she may have run off with a man she met online.
Whittier police said Stephanie Brie Rodriguez left her home
in the 11500 block of Broadway Avenue in Whittier at about 2 p.m.
Friday, after she left a note with her parents. Police believe
Rodriguez then met with 20-year-old Ivan Felipe Cerda of Vista, Calif.
and the two drove down to North County, San Diego to Certa's mother's
home, where they stopped briefly before taking off again.
Authorities said Rodriguez met Cerda online. The name of the website was
not immediately released, but officials said it is a social networking
site associated with PlayStation. Rodriguez and Cerda gave no
indication of where they were headed, according to police. What is most
concerning to authorities is the nature in which the two met and the age
difference between the two. "For anyone that's especially a
juvenile who is developing a relationship online, you just don't know
who these people are," said Whittier Police Department Cpl. Jason
Zohlke. Cerda is described as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 289 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Rodriguez is described as Hispanic, approximately 4 feet 11 inches
tall, weighing 98 pounds, with shoulder length hair, brown eyes and
braces. She was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, leggings and black
plastic rim eye glasses. Officials believe the two are
traveling in Cerda's 2003 dark grey four-door Volkswagen Passat with
California license plate 5BPJ686. If you have any information regarding this case, you're urged to contact Whittier police at (562) 567-9255. See photo at link:

Girl, 12, who ran away with man, 20, found safe
Authorities say a 12-year-old Whittier girl who ran away Friday
with a 20-year-old man she met on the Internet has been found safe and
the man is in custody.
Whittier Police Lt. Carlos Solorza says Stephanie Brie Rodriguez
and Ivan Felipe Cerda were detained by Riverside County sheriff's
deputies near Anza late Saturday morning.
They are each being questioned by investigators.
Solorza says Rodriguez appears to be in good physical condition.
The pair met via a social networking feature in the Sony Playstation Internet service.
Cerda was seen driving Rodriguez away from her home Friday
afternoon in his 2003 Volkswagen Passat. Police say they briefly stopped
at Cerda's mother's home in Vista.
Solorza says it's too early to determine whether Cerda might face charges.
