So, how did it go?
We don’t know exactly…just that attorney James Werter of St. Augustine, Fla. told me earlier he’d scheduled a polygraph Thursday morning, April 8, for client Tommy Croslin who had long requested, a sock-it-to-me lie detector test to clear up any allegations made by sister Misty that he’d come to the trailer with a cousin from Tennessee hours before she reported five year old Haleigh Cummings missing Feb. 10, 2009.
. . . . .
According to her letter, Chelsea said Misty wrote that when Tommy and Joe arrived, “Misty told them she didn’t know Ronald had apparently taken the gun from his usual hiding place. So when they got there, and couldn’t find the gun, Tommy said, ‘I’m going home,’ and left, and then Joe got mad, grabbed Haleigh and took off.”

Putnam County Sheriff's officials on the scene declined to give any details
on the tip or the person who gave it. However, they did say that they had
physical evidence to support their search, although they did not provide
details. At the scene in addition to Putnam County Sheriff's deputies is a
dive team from the Duval County Sheriff's Office. Divers are using sonar to
help in their search. Officials have said they plan to be at the scene all night
if necessary.

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
Authorities have interviewed another one of Misty Croslin's
relatives in reference to Haleigh Cumming's disappearance.
Croslins's cousin, Joe Overstreet, was interviewed late Tuesday
night. The 20-year-old lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
He has been interviewed by police before. His mother, who says she is
also Croslin's aunt, said Tuesday afternoon her family
had not heard from police in months.
"My son is at home not doing anything, not bothering anyone and
people continue to bother him."
She says it's been six months since police contacted her son. But
that all changed Tuesday night.
Overstreet spent the evening with family and friends. Then around
11:30 Tuesday night his attorney, Shawn Sirgo, showed up.
The two talked outside Overstreet's home for 20 minutes and then left
in his attorney's car.
First Coast News followed the two to the Tennessee Bureau of
Investigation in Nashville.
Overstreet and his attorney were escorted inside. Less than 45
minutes later, Overstreet was out and on his way back home.
"I did get a phone call from an agent in Florida. He asked if I could
accompany Joseph to speak with them," says Sirgo.
Sirgo says Overstreet's last interview was four to six months ago and
the one Tuesday night was a follow up and was not unexpected.
Sirgo would not say who did the interview, but he did confirm the
agents were from Florida.
"They're just doing what their job is, gather all the information
they can gather. And we are cooperating to the best of our ability to
assist them."
Sirgo says Overstreet was in the Satsuma area when Haleigh
disappeared, but Overstreet has no knowledge of what happened to the
child.
He says his client is innocent.

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
Sheriff's divers searching for Haleigh Cummings on Tuesday
apparently recovered items that brought a University of Florida
anthropologist to the St. Johns River south of Satsuma.
Cummings was 5 years old when she was reported missing from her home on Feb. 10, 2009.
Tuesday morning saw a dramatic increase in activity in the
lingering case with dozens of officers from several law enforcement
agencies converging on the Shell Harbour boat ramp in South Putnam. The
intensity of the search was similar to how lawmen initially responded to
Haleigh's disappearance.
It was clear that investigators expected to find something on Tuesday.
The search was triggered by a tip the Putnam County Sheriff's
Office received on Monday, said Lt. Johnny Greenwood, a spokesman for the department.
But authorities were tight-lipped about what the tip specified.
"Due to the sensitivity of this investigation, the
name of the person providing the tip and the physical evidence alleged
to be in this area will not be released," Greenwood said.
The Shell Harbour camp area was not searched when Haleigh vanished 14 months
ago, Greenwood said.
Authorities also refused to say what divers
found in the day-long search and whether Haleigh's case has shifted
from a missing person investigation to a homicide investigation.
"That is a decision that will be made later," Sheriff Jeff Hardy told
reporters gathered at the sheriff's office in Palatka.
Hardy also met privately with Haleigh's family members,
including her father, Ronald Cummings, who is jailed on drug charges.
The sheriff later described the meeting as "some private conversations."
Officials refused to confirm or deny that possible human remains were recovered
Tuesday but did say the search was scheduled to resume today.
About 5 p.m., a truck from the university drove through the checkpoint. The
vehicle was from the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory, which
the school says provides "forensic anthropology services for medical
examiners and coroners."
The lab has been involved in several high-profile cases.
The truck left about 7:30 p.m. and officials did not say whether human bones had been found.
It was mid-morning when local, state and federal officers swarmed over the
Shell Harbour neighborhood, which lies between the river and County Road
309. As boats and divers entered the river, detectives interviewed
residents and other deputies sealed off the neighborhood. Only law
enforcement and people who lived in the neighborhood were allowed in.
Carl Brown, who lives in the neighborhood, said a deputy yelled at him to
leave when he walked toward where the search was launched.
"We're taxpayers and we live in the community and we have a right to know
what's going on," Brown said. "He screamed at me just like I was a dog."
Authorities also kept boaters from passing through that section of the river, an
action that prevented four boats of vacationers from reaching Stegbones
Fish Camp after a morning of fishing.
"They were coming back to clean their fish and eat and they can't come back," camp manager Stan
Plaisted said.
Bands of rain showers rolled through the area Tuesday, dousing searchers, reporters and the stranded boaters.
As divers worked, other searchers covered the shore with dogs specially
trained to find dead bodies and police boats equipped with sonar
followed search patterns across the river.
Several containers of items recovered by divers were loaded onto boats and taken to shore.
Visibility was poor in the water, Lt. Ben Allen of the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission said Tuesday night.
"Dark, I mean there's no visibility," he said.
There were unconfirmed reports that the investigation has once more focused on Joe Overstreet, a cousin of
Misty Croslin who lives in Tennessee, but was visiting Satsuma when Haleigh disappeared.
Meanwhile, Misty Croslin was brought to the Putnam County in Palatka on Tuesday then returned to the jail in St.
Augustine. She did not meet with Haleigh's relatives.
Croslin, her brother Hank Croslin Jr., Ronald Cummings and two others have been
jailed on drug charges since January.
Brown, the neighborhood resident said Haleigh's babysitter, Misty Croslin, "used to live two
blocks from here" with her parents.
Brown said another resident told him he saw Croslin carrying a trash bag nearby in the days after
Haleigh was reported missing.

Tip In Haleigh Case Prompts River Search
Girl Missing 14 Months Would Now Be 6-Years-Old

UPDATED: 3:18 pm EDT April 13, 2010
SATSUMA,Fla. -- Deputies from four counties and the Florida Department
of Law Enforcement were searching the St. Johns River south of Satsuma
Tuesday, and authorities confirmed the search is
connected to the Haleigh Cummings investigation.Putnam County
Sheriff's Office Lt. Johnny Greenwood said the search was prompted
by one of over 5,000 leads received by the Putnam County Sheriff's
Office since the then-5-year-old girl disappeared from her bed in
her father's mobile home 14 months ago.

Tarik Minor said the search of an area less than 5 miles south of where
Haleigh disappeared in February 2008 was prompted by a "credible tip."
"
Although various resources are being utilized to conduct this search, it is just

said in a media release Tuesday morning. "Due to the sensitivity of this
investigation, the name of the person providing the tip and the
physical evidence alleged to be in this area, will not be released."Minor
called the search effort "massive," and included deputies from Putnam,
Clay and Marion counties, as well as the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
He said cadaver dogs were also brought to the scene.Since
Haleigh lived not far from the river, boats and divers were used in the
search for Haleigh in the first days after she disappeared. Last
September, a Putnam County pond was drained and searched following a
tip, but deputies said nothing of significance to the investigation was
found.
Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, and former stepmother, Misty, remain in jail
facing drug trafficking charges that authorities say are unrelated to
Haleigh's disappearance.Jail records show Tuesday that Misty
Cummings was being moved from the St. Johns County Jail to the Putnam
County Jail.Channel 4 was told that Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield,
was told about Tuesday's search so she would not learn about

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
For the second day, divers came up empty-handed while searching a
murky river for a 5-year-old girl who disappeared more than a year ago.
The Putnam County Sheriff's office said Wednesday there's no new
information on either the divers combing the St. John's River or the tip
that touched off the search for Haleigh Cummings.
The search for her body -- or any evidence in the case -- has been
focused this week on the St. John's River, about five miles south of the
girl's home.
Haleigh vanished from her father's home in Satsuma, in northeast
Florida, in 2009.
Her father's 17-year-old live-in girlfriend, Misty Croslin, was
baby-sitting at the time. She told investigators she woke up at 3 a.m.
Feb. 10 to find Haleigh gone and a back door propped open with a brick.
The sheriff's office has questioned Croslin's credibility, saying
investigators don't believe Haleigh was abducted by a stranger. Croslin
is in jail on unrelated drug charges.
On Wednesday, Croslin's cousin -- Joe Overstreet, 20, of Nashville,
Tenn., -- held a press conference in his lawyer's office in Nashville to
talk about how Florida authorities interviewed him for 30 minutes
Tuesday night. It was the third time Overstreet has been interviewed
since Haleigh's disappearance.
Overstreet, who was in north Florida at the time Haleigh was reported
missing, has not been charged with any crime and said he doesn't what
happened to the child.
"If I knew who did it, I would go straight and call the cops and tell
them who did it," he said.
Sheriff's officials in Florida are being tight-lipped on why
Overstreet was interviewed, and why they are searching that particular
area of the St. John's River, which is about 70 miles south of
Jacksonville.
On Wednesday, curious neighbors watched law enforcement divers use
heavy equipment in the water.
"For the family's sake, I hope they can have some closure," said
Kellie Thropp, who owns a business nearby. "I can't imagine how they are

There's some news in Tennessee about the case
of a missing child in Florida.
The cousin of Haleigh Cummings' former stepmother lives in Antioch and
was called in for questioning a third time. He's now talking, saying he
had nothing to do with the child's death or disappearance.Joe
Overstreet, 20, has been under suspicion by some of his family for 14
months, he said, and he broke down while speaking for the first time
about the investigation."I'm sorry. I can't imagine what they're
going through. I didn't do it," Overstreet said. "If I knew who did, I
would straight call the cops and tell who did it."Overstreet
struggled Wednesday to maintain his composure as he talked about this
case.
Overstreet and his attorney said family members are the ones who keep
putting Overstreet back on the hot seat."At his age, to be
accused of such a horrendous act and to be given no support, it's
disgusting," said Overstreet's attorney, Shawn Sirgo.Sirgo and
Overstreet said they are confident the facts will prove the man's
innocence. They both drove to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on
Tuesday night to meet with investigators, who flew in from Florida. They
stayed with them for about 40 minutes, Sirgo said."It was
obviously a short interview, which means that there was no substantial
change," said Sirgo. "I have a good idea of what they're going to do
next."Sirgo said the next move does not involve any action
against his client, who he said has already suffered more than he should. "I
lost a lot of family," said Overstreet.

Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo - Satsuma FL - The Beginning
A former FBI agent said Wednesday he knows what happened to Haleigh Cummings and why dozens of
sheriff's deputies, divers and other officials are spending a second day
searching the St. Johns River."Monday was the culmination of
this 10-month investigation I've been doing," said Steve Brown, now a
private investigator working for Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield.
"We presented this to the Putnam Country Sheriff's Office and the FDLE,
and with their cooperation, finally got the final details of what
transpired in that trailer on Feb. 9th."Five-year-old Haleigh
disappeared from her father's mobile home in Satsuma sometime after she
was put to bed that night. By the next morning, an Amber Alert was
issued and 14 months of search efforts and investigation into thousands
of tips and spanning several states began.
Brown said he knows what happened to Haleigh, and evidence prosecutors
need to prove it is what investigators are searching for in the river
near the Shell Harbor Boat Ramp -- about five miles south of where
Haleigh disappeared."I can tell you, but I won't," Brown said. "I can't tell you anything, at this point,
that I think will compromise the police investigation."While
Brown wouldn't say who the Putnam County Sheriff's Office considers
suspects, he said he does not think Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings,
had anything to do with her disappearance. He could not say the same
for Misty Croslin, the teenage babysitter who put Haleigh to bed that
night and would go on to marry, then divorce Ronald Cummings."Misty
certainly knows what happened in the trailer that night," Brown said.
Misty Croslin-Cummings, who is awaiting trial on drug trafficking
charges, was brought from the St. Johns County jail to Putnam County to
be interviewed on Tuesday.Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy would
not say much about the investigation or the river search, he did say
briefed Haleigh's family Tuesday about recent developments and that
Haleigh had not been found.
"The conversations we had were between me and the family," Hardy said.Haleigh's
great grandmother, Teresa Neves, told the "Today Show" Wednesday
morning that they were only told that investigators were searching an
area because they got a tip."Any time they call you in and tell
you they're going to be doing such a search, it's hard for us ...
because we still believe she's alive," Neves said.Brown said he
believes the Putnam County Sheriff's Office knows who is responsible for
Haleigh's disappearance."There may be other people culpable, but
as to who killed Haleigh, that's not going to be a big surprise," Brown
said.Brown said that while he believes an arrest will come soon,
he's not surprised that the Putnam County Sheriff's Office is taking
its time."I personally thing that they have probable cause, but
the problem is, it's one thing to have probable cause to make an arrest,
it is something else to have enough probable cause to make the case
when it goes to court. They are being careful, which is the right thing
to do."Brown was somewhat skeptical that investigators would
find what they were looking for in the river."It was there.
Fourteen months later, I don't know what's going to be there," Brown
said.Despite of what the search turns up, Brown is confident
there will be an arrest in the case in the near future. The
sheriff's office released a statement Wednesday morning saying it would
be irresponsible for it "to comment on speculative comments made by any
independent source without having viable information to corroborate it.""If
and when any factual information is obtained in this case that will
either explain what happened to Haleigh Cummings, or identify who is
responsible for her disappearance; (the sheriff) will make formal
release to the public," Putnam County Lt. Johnny Greenwood said.

Report: Misty Croslin at search scene for Haleigh Cummings
News agencies report Haleigh Cummings searchers retrieved a large box from the river.
By Anthony Colarossi and Sarah Lundy, Orlando Sentinel

SATSUMA -- Putnam County deputy sheriffs and other law-enforcement
investigators continued an intense search Wednesday along the shore of
the St. Johns River for evidence connected to the disappearance of
Haleigh Cummings more than a year ago.
A second day of searching the riverfront yielded no new clues into the
5-year-old's disappearance as rumors and speculation swirled around the
case that again has captured national media attention.
Deputies blocked off access along Shell Harbour Road near rural Satsuma
while they search an area around a dock at the end of the road.
The only apparent development came when a local television station
reported that a woman resembling Misty Croslin was at the search scene
in her jail clothes late in the afternoon. The woman -- with her hands
cuffed -- walked onto the dock near where divers searched, video from
WKMG-Channel 6 showed.
Putnam County deputies have shut off road and river traffic to where
divers are. WKMG took video of the woman, talking to investigators,
from its helicopter above the scene.
No one is charged in the disappearance of Haleigh, who was last seen on
Feb. 9, 2009, although authorities have said she was abducted.
Croslin, who was briefly married to Haleigh's father after the girl
disappeared and was the person who reported her missing, is being held
on $1.35 million bail on unrelated drug-trafficking charges.
She is the last person to see Haleigh, investigators said.
Deputies released few details about the latest search. They had no news
briefings Wednesday despite a significant media presence near the
scene, and the Sheriff's Office attempted to dispel a rumor that anyone
is in custody related to Haleigh's disappearance.
"Sheriff [Jeff] Hardy wants the citizens of Putnam County and the media
to know that this rumor is false," said a Sheriff's Office statement
from Lt. Johnny Greenwood. "At this point, this search has failed to
yield any items of evidentiary value in the case."
Greenwood left the search scene late Wednesday afternoon without addressing the media.
Meanwhile, there appears to be renewed interest in Joseph Overstreet, a cousin of Croslin.
Overstreet was in a dispute with Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings,
when Cummings accused him of stealing a gun. Overstreet moved back to
Antioch, Tenn., after Haleigh disappeared. He was interviewed by
detectives and was not called a suspect at that time.
Investigators from Florida interviewed Overstreet with his attorney
late Tuesday, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin
Helm said, although that agency is not involved in the case.
At a news conference at his lawyer's Nashville office on Wednesday,
Overstreet said Florida authorities interviewed him for 30 minutes on
Tuesday night. It was his third interview since Haleigh's disappearance.
He was in North Florida at the time the girl disappeared. He has not
been charged with any crime and said he doesn't what happened to the
child.
"If I knew who did it, I would go straight and call the cops and tell them who did it," he said.
Sheriff's officials in Florida are not saying why Overstreet was interviewed.
On Wednesday, residents living in the small riverside community known
as Magnolia Bluff, were logged in and out by a deputy when entering and
exiting their neighborhood during the search.
Resident Mark Doughty, 58, said investigators have gone door to door
asking residents if they remember seeing a dark-colored minivan -- a
Town and Country type of vehicle -- more than a year ago.
Deputies showed them pictures of the vehicle, he and a friend said, and asked if they recalled suspicious activity at the time.
"That's a long time ago, and we get a lot of traffic," Doughty said.
"I'm sorry to see all the activity here because it's normally a nice,
quiet neighborhood."
With all the attention focused on the search area, where about 35 homes
are situated, Doughty said he was happy with the controlled access to
the community.
"I'm glad the deputy sheriff is there limiting access. They're doing their job," he said.
The community is ready for a resolution in the 5-year-old girl's disappearance more than a year ago, he said.
"Everybody wants to see closure. They want to know what happened to the little girl," Doughty said.
Walter Pacheco of the Sentinel staff contributed to this report. Information from The Associated Press also was used.
