Attorney says Caylee Anthony has been cremated Empty Caylee Anthony Was Cremated

WKMG asks why the toddler was cremated

A day after Caylee Anthony's memorial, WKMG-Channel 6 explored why the toddler was cremated.

The child's death certificate was filed today, and she was cremated in the past few days, WKMG's Adam Longo reported. Brad Conway, attorney for George and Cindy Anthony, said the grandparents decided on the cremation to protect the child. Longo reported that the grandparents are not keeping the ashes in their home -- they fear vandals -- and they don't want a marked grave either.

Longo said Conway will ask for a face-to-face meeting at the jail between Casey and her parents.

But WESH-Channel 2 reported that Conway said his clients still want to have a private video visit with Casey. The parents understand the visit would have to be monitored, but they don't want it released to the media, anchor Martha Sugalski said. The decision would fall to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Sugalski added.

In other reports, TV stations turned back to the case against Casey Anthony, who is charged with Caylee's murder.

WESH showed Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney, saying the next step is sorting out what evidence is real and what is junk. WESH's Bob Kealing quoted "sources close to the investigation" who say they want to question Lee Anthony more about what he knew when niece Caylee was missing.

WESH replayed footage of George Anthony's comments at Tuesday's memorial. But Kealing reminded viewers that George will be a major witness in the murder case against his daughter, Casey.

WFTV-Channel 9's Kathi Belich said, "It's our understanding that a lot of the evidence ... is still being tested." That material includes what was found with the toddler's remains and what was gathered at the Anthony home. She also speculated, based on Dr. Henry Lee's recent writings, that the defense team might use root growth at the scene to figure out how long Caylee's body was there.

One day after Caylee Marie Anthony's memorial service, the lawyer representing the toddler's grandparents confirmed the girl's remains have been cremated and that they are not located at her family's home.

Attorney Brad Conway, who represents George and Cindy Anthony, wouldn't say where Caylee's remains are being kept.

Conway also addressed a question many were left wondering after Tuesday's memorial: Who was her uncle Lee Anthony referring to when he repeatedly said "CMA?"

Was he referring to Caylee? Was he talking to his sister -- and Caylee's mother -- Casey Anthony? They both share the same initials.

When Lee Anthony eulogized his niece at the pulpit at First Baptist Church, he brought with him a laptop and read from it.

He told the mourners to withhold judgment and to fill their hearts with patience and grace. He spoke about "CMA," saying how much he missed her and will never forget the promise he made to her.

Who is "CMA?"

Lee Anthony was "talking to all of them," Conway said.

"He wanted his sister to know he loves her."

The memorial served as an emotional day of closure for a family that has been in the media glare since last summer when Caylee was reported missing. Her remains were found in December a short distance from the Anthonys' home in east Orlando.

22-year-old Casey Anthony is in the Orange County Jail under indictment for her daugher's murder. She had pleaded not guilty.

On Tuesday, a crowd of about 1,100 people -- many of whom never met Caylee -- got a glimpse of the joy she brought to her family. The service lasted almost two hours and included prayers, performances by several singers, home videos and a photo slide show.

"I stand here today proud to be the grandfather of Caylee Marie Anthony," George Anthony told the crowd at First Baptist Church of Orlando. "I'm thankful for everyone who is here today to pay tribute to a beautiful little girl."

Anthony said he misses the sweet smell of his granddaughter's hair, the way she called him "JoJo" and the nights they shared bowls of popcorn.

It's the little things Caylee did during her short life that have become tender memories for her grieving grandfather.

As Anthony spoke, mourners across the worship center wept. When he finished speaking, they gave him a standing ovation. Women shouted, "We love you."

It was unclear whether the 22-year-old, who is charged with killing her child, watched or listened to the service, which was broadcast live on local news channels. But Cindy Anthony, who has not visited her daughter in jail for months, addressed her from the sanctuary.

"Casey, I hope you're able to hear me today," Cindy Anthony said. "I love you, and I wish I could comfort you right now . . . take away all of your pain and wipe away your tears."

Her father also spoke protectively of her.

"I miss my daughter, Casey. Do not form any judgment, because you don't want to be in any of our family's shoes no matter what it is," George Anthony said. "Casey deserves prayers. She deserves understanding. She deserves love. She deserves letters. Take the time to write letters to her."

Attorney stays mum

"It was important for me to be here with her -- to be with her at this time," Baez said. "It's very frankly a private matter, and that's the way it should be."

Reporters asked: How did Anthony feel? What did she say? Did she watch the service? Baez wouldn't answer.

Attorney says Caylee Anthony has been cremated Empty Remains Not At Home - Memorial at Park?

Cremated Caylee Remains Not Kept At Home Over Theft Fears

POSTED: Thursday, February 12, 2009
UPDATED: 7:17 am EST February 12, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The cremated remains of Caylee Anthony are not being kept at her grandparents' east Orange County home because of fears that somebody may try to steal them.

Brad Conway, the attorney representing Caylee's grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony, said on Wednesday that the remains are not at the home, but he would not say where they are being kept.

Caylee was 2 years old when she disappeared in mid-June. Her remains were found in December in a wooded lot near the Anthony home.

Casey Anthony, Caylee's mother, remains jailed on first-degree murder charges in the death of her daughter. She did not want her daughter to be cremated.

Conway said the decision to cremate Caylee was not made lightly by George and Cindy Anthony, who were concerned that a headstone would be a target for vandals. They plan to build a permanent memorial for Caylee, perhaps at a park.

A public memorial service was held for Caylee in Orlando on Tuesday.

Casey Anthony has pleaded not guilty in Caylee's death and claims a baby sitter kidnapped Caylee.
