Re: Trial Coverage and Discussion Only ~ Day 32 ~ June 30, 2011
Day 32 witnesses
Krystal Holloway
Baez began the day by calling a name now familiar to the case: Krystal Holloway, a woman who met Casey's father, George Anthony, while volunteering in the search for Caylee.
She explained she also goes by the alias "River Cruz," because her father used to call her "River," and "Cruz" is her mother's maiden name.
Holloway stated in front of the jury that she and George had an intimate relationship while Caylee was missing, and he had gone to her home about 12 times.
She recalled one time, around Thanksgiving 2008, when George was at her home, that she told him she did not think he was capable of raising a daughter who would harm her own child.
At that, Holloway said George replied, "It was an accident that snowballed out of control," echoing Baez's opening statement on Day 1.
She said she was shocked, and turned to George to find his eyes welled up with tears.
Holloway said law enforcement had not contacted her until two years later. She said investigators asked if she knew George, and if she had an affair with him.
She also said they had copies of text messages George sent to her, including one dated Dec. 16, that said:
Just thinking about you.
I need you in my life.
George, who repeatedly denied having an affair while on the stand on Tuesday, Day 30, did admit to sending that text. He explained that at that time, he needed everyone in his life who had helped look for his granddaughter.
Holloway claimed she was still sleeping with George when his family held a memorial for Caylee in February 2009. But when she showed up, he did not acknowledge her.

She said she was mad and walked away from her phone, and then her sister sent George an angry text. After that, Holloway said she never heard from George again.
At first, Holloway said she publicly denied the affair, because she was embarrassed, and did not want George to get in trouble. But she went back that same week to change her story.
She also admitted she was in another relationship while she was seeing George.
During cross-examination, Holloway admitted selling her story to the National Enquirer for $4,000. She said she went to them, because she believed they would tell her story "in full," and not edit her and make her "look like trash."
When prosecutor Jeff Ashton asked Holloway if George said he was there during the "accident" he mentioned, she said he didn't say that.
Then, during redirect examination, Baez asked Holloway if George told her that Caylee was dead while he was telling the world she was missing, she said that was correct.
Holloway spent a long sidebar crying on the witness stand before Judge Perry called for a recess. After she stepped down, she quickly walked to the courtroom doors, not looking at George. She was excused when court adjourned again.
After Holloway left the courtroom, Perry instructed the jury that it should only use the witness' testimony regarding George's statements to her to discern whether or not they believe George's previous testimony, and not as a basis for their verdict for Casey.

Baez then brought back the private investigator to again discuss where exactly he searched in the woods off Suburban Drive one month before Caylee's remains were found in the same area.
Casey was shown a Google Earth map containing pins marking where he searched. He said he marked those spots the same day he conducted the search in November 2008. He also said he sent a copy of the map to the psychic, Ginette Lucas, whose name he mentioned during his previous testimony on Monday, Day 29.
Baez asked if that was the only area in Orlando's 101 square miles that Casey searched. He said yes.

George Anthony
Before Baez actually called George Anthony to the witness stand, he showed the jury a video showing Casey's father at a search command center in the parking lot of a Publix grocery store in Orlando.
The video showed fliers containing a photo of Caylee, and George wearing the same photo on a white T-shirt.
Then, it zoomed in on a piece of Henkel brand duct tape, the same brand found near Caylee's remains.
George said it may have been his tape, or it may have been someone else's. He could not recall the exact location of the command center shown in the video, but said there were only two that were outside of Publix stores.
Interestingly, Baez then began asking about the Anthonys' family pets, beginning with a dog named Mandy they had while living in Ohio when his children, Casey and Lee, were still very young.
George said Mandy had to be euthanized, and he was buried in the Anthonys' backyard at their old home. He recalled the dog being brought home wrapped in a blanket. Baez asked if the dog was put in a plastic bag, or if duct tape was used, but George said he did not remember.
Baez asked similar questions about other pets: Dogs named Bo, Ginger and Cinnamon, and a cat named Penny. Regarding a dog named Misty, George said there was no dog by that name.
During cross-examination, Ashton asked if George ever had a pet that he threw in a swamp in the woods. George said no.
—————————————————————————
Cindy Anthony
Baez then asked Casey's mother similar questions about the same pets.
Cindy said she and George got Mandy before Lee and Cindy were born, calling the dog "her first baby." She recalled being at the vet when Mandy was put down, and said the dog was wrapped in a blanket and black plastic.
She then recalled how the other pets were buried. It was a tradition to bury them with a towel or a stuffed animal, and wrapped in plastic. Cindy also said Casey was aware of this tradition.
Prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick asked Cindy if she ever used chloroform on her pets, or put duct tape on their noses and mouths. She said no, but did admit that duct tape was used to keep the plastic bags from coming open.

Lee Anthony
Casey's brother was then asked about the deaths of his pets. He recalled them being buried in the backyard, and even said he, himself, buried Cinnamon.

State's rebuttal
Alina Burroughs
Prosecutors began their rebuttal case by having the returning crime scene investigator identify photos she took of clothes she collected from Caylee's room.
—————————————————————————
Following Burroughs' testimony, Ashton showed the jury each page of George Anthony's suicide note, which he confirmed writing during testimony on Wednesday, Day 31.
After publishing the letter, addressed to "Cynthia Marie," Ashton said that was all the testimony they had available for the day, and the jury was dismissed for the day.
