WEST POINT — The parents of a 5-month-old baby girl face felony charges over her unexplained death.
Courtney N. Nolf, 21, and Kenneth W. Wyatt, 25, both of West Point, have been
charged with felony child abuse following weeks of investigation by the
West Point Police Department. The mother was also charged with homicide.
Police Chief Bill Hodges said Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center
reported a possible child abuse case to West Point Police on June 27.
Kaylee Wyatt had been brought in that day by fire and rescue personnel as unresponsive.
Investigator David Taylor responded to the hospital after being notified that the
child was being transferred to Children’s Hospital of the King’s
Daughters in Norfolk where she was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Kaylee remained in ICU until June 30, when she died of “extreme rotational
cranial acceleration injuries,” or shaken baby syndrome.
An autopsy July 2 at the Medical Examiner’s office in Richmond ruled it a homicide, Hodges reported.
Nolf and Wyatt were transported to the Middle Peninsula Regional Security
Center in Saluda. They face arraignment Thursday in King William General District Court.
