Amber Alert issued for Pinellas girl

CLEARWATER -- An Amber Alert has been issued for a Pinellas County girl.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 11-year-old Savanna Emanuelle Demetro was last seen seen in the area of the 1400 block of Missouri Ave in Clearwater on Thursday at 4 p.m. Officials said she left her home to go to the movies.

Pinellas Sheriff's officials said Demetro, described as 5-foot-6 inches tall, 220 pounds with brown hair with two blonde streaks and brown eyes was wearing a pink shirt and a black skirt.

She may have gotten into a vehicle with an unknown male, according to authorities. Officials said she may be in danger.

Officials said they do not have a description of the man or the vehicle they may be in. Authorities said the two may no longer be in the Bay area.

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- An Amber Alert for a missing 11-year-old Clearwater girl has been canceled after she was found in an Orlando apartment, deputies said.

Savanna Emmanuelle Demetro was found in the apartment before 8 a.m., said deputies, who added that she had no visible injuries.

Pinellas County sheriff's detectives said their investigation showed that Savanna may have been taken to Orlando by a man, so they contacted police who found her.

Before being found, Savanna was last seen in Clearwater around 4 p.m. Thursday after leaving her house to go to the movies.

Cops: Texas Man Arrested In Connection With Missing Girl

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- Police said they arrested a Texas man in connection with the abduction of an 11-year-old Clearwater girl, who was reported missing, and was found in an Orlando apartment Friday morning.

Savanna Demetro disappeared Thursday night, officers said. Demetro was found unharmed at the Central Park at Metrowest apartments on Kirkman Road.

Police arrested 19-year-old Richie Ulrich. They said he is being charged with lewd and lascivious conduct.

There are conflicting accounts about how the victim and the suspect knew each other or how they were introduced, police said.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says Orlando police found Demetro just before 8 a.m. The sheriff's office asked for assistance from Orlando police after learning that an unidentified man may have taken the girl to Orlando.

"Would you be surprised if this was a kidnapping?" WFTV reporter Steve Barrett asked resident Bagaio Biafora.

"Not at all. The way things are going these days, it's just getting too wild for me. We're getting to the point where we don't want our women going out at night by themselves," said Biafora.

Pinellas Sheriff's Crimes Against Children detectives were in Orlando on Friday, interviewing Demetro and the people who were in the apartment where she was found. Pinellas County detectives said they had developed information that Demetro was endangered and that she had left the area with a male suspect who had access to transportation.

“Terror, how can it not be? Your baby, 11-years-old missing, it was very scary, very scary,” said Tim Thompson, Demetro’s father.

Demetro was reported missing Thursday after she left for a movie and never came home on Thursday. Thompson said he's happy she's been found.

“Even though we've found her and she's been found alive, this is when the investigation starts,” said Thompson.

According to detectives, the apartment where Demetro was found is occupied by a male and female. They said on Friday, two other males and one female, who were all from out of state, were also at the apartment. One of the males from out of state is believed to be the suspect who brought Demetro to Orlando, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Residents of the Central Park complex said they're not surprised, but several said the resident who lives in the unit the girl was found in is a friendly young man. Some neighbors said they'd be shocked if he was involved in some kind of abduction.

Residents of the complex where Demetro was found said that crime has spiked in the area and this could be the latest example.

"Metrowest has had a bad name and so I'm moving out," said resident Linda Evans.

Detectives are still reviewing the interview results and the evidence to determine what charges may result in Pinellas County.

of 11-year-old Clearwater girl, is expected to make his first
appearance before a judge.

Richie Urich, 19, of Dallas, Texas was arrested Friday, after an Amber Alert for the girl was cancelled.

Police issued the alert, after she failed to return home from a movie, Thursday night.

A tip lead authorities to the Central Park apartment complex
in Orlando. The girl was found with Urich and at least three other
people.

According to the arrest affidavit, Urich picked the girl up from Pinellas County and drove her to Orlando.

Neighbors who live in the apartment complex where the girl
was found said this is a clear sign, that more background checks need to
be done for new residents.

He is currently being charged with lewd and lascivious conduct. Urich will face a judge sometime after 11 a.m.

The girl and her family had just moved to Florida from Texas
about three months ago. Urich gave a Dallas address to authorities. It's
still unclear if or how these two knew each other.

The investigation continues in this case.

Timeline of events


Detectives said the girl told her father she was going to the
movies with a relative Thursday evening. The girl left her father's
home around 4 p.m.

When the girl failed to return after three hours, family
members called the relative and asked about the girl. The relative said
the girl had not been with them and had not gone to the movies.

The girl's family began their own search and called the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office around 8:15 p.m.

By 10:45 p.m., detectives were called in to widen the investigation.

After 11 p.m., the victim called home and said she was fine and was still in the area.

By 11:30 p.m., detectives were reviewing electronic messages
that indicated the girl was with an unidentified male subject and no
longer in the Tampa Bay area.

Detectives said some of the messages were sexually explicit
and determined the girl qualified for an Amber Alert that was authorized
by FDLE around 4:45 a.m. Friday morning.

After reviewing the messages, detectives directed their search to Central Park Apartments on Westgate Drive in Orlando.

Orlando Police Department officers were asked to check an
apartment in the complex and found the girl in it around 8 a.m. Friday
morning. The Amber Alert was subsequently cancelled.

Detectives said a male and a female live in the home, and
that two other males and a female, all from out of state, were there as
well.

Urich is believed to be the subject who brought the girl to Orlando, detectives said.

Pinellas detectives drove to Orlando to continue the Pinellas
investigation. Orlando police released the victim to her family at the
conclusion of the interviews.

The suspect, Richie Urich, was found with the girl in the
apartment. Urich was arrested and booked into in the Orange County Jail.

for interfering with child custody, and traveling to meet a minor --
both charges have no bond. As a result, a "hold" will be placed on Urich
in Orange County on the Pinellas charges.
Pinellas detectives say additional charges on Urich are pending.
The girl and her family had just moved to Florida from Texas
about three months ago. Urich gave a Dallas address to authorities. It's
still unclear if or how these two knew each other.
The investigation continues in this case.
