Authorities continue search for missing girl
14-year-old Raven English.
Authorities are looking for a 14-year-old Laurel Hill girl who may have run away with a man she met on the Internet.
Raven Kassidi English was last seen at her Lennon Drive home on Tuesday.
After
her disappearance, neighbors reported seeing a strange car in the
neighborhood. It was described as a newer model light blue or grey Buick
Riviera with out-of-state tags from either Idaho or Ohio, according to
neighbors.
“No one actually saw her in the car, but all of the
neighbors saw this unfamiliar car,” said mother, Melissa Hatcher. “No
one would go that far back to make a turnaround.”
The car appeared to be driven by a middle-aged white male.
“I
think she met him on Facebook and every time she got upset and felt
like she couldn’t speak to me or to her uncle, she probably spoke to
that person,” Hatcher said.
Hatcher said her daughter deleted her emails, but the police have the laptop in an effort to retrieve the any information.
“I’m
not computer-savvy and I feel bad about that because that’s what took
her away - she was on her laptop 90 percent of the time,” said Hatcher.
“She left her cell phone, she left her laptop - everything this child
cares about. Normally if she’s going to leave the house for an hour,
she’s got her laptop with her. The only thing Raven took with her is her
iPod and maybe a change of clothes.”
Raven was wearing a green
and white horizontally striped shirt with a fishnet back over a white
T-shirt, faded blue jeans, and a black belt with a multicolored skull
decoration. She also had on black and white Converses.
She stands
5’4, and weights 90 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. She has a
Monroe piercing on the right of her upper lip and a fake nose piercing.
When last seen she was wearing a sterling silver hoop in her lip
piercing and a black leather necklace with a large pendant of the Wiccan
pentagram.
She also appears to have taken a black shoulder bag decorated with an Avenged Sevenfold logo.
“She’s not emo or gothic, she just loves rock n’ roll,” said Hatcher.
Anyone
with information should contact Investigator Jackson with the Scotland
County Sheriff’s Department at 276-3385 or 266-4332, ext. 3.

Re: RAVEN ENGLISH - 14 yo - Laurel Hill NC
The search for a missing Laurel Hill girl has ended with her safe return to her family.
Raven English, 14, who had been missing for almost a week was found Monday morning in Wilson.
“She’s home and she’s safe,” said her uncle Wayne Hatcher. “She’s kind of indifferent to it all, but she is 14.”
English
was dropped off at a Wal-Mart in Wilson around 3:30 Monday morning. The
Scotland County sheriff’s department responded to a call from Wilson
police and returned English to her home shortly before 10 a.m.
“She’d gotten dropped off there by a friend she met online,” Wilson Police Captain Eric Smith told the Richmond Daily Journal.
“They apparently didn’t have any way to get her home or money for a
cab, so they just dropped her off at Wal-Mart and she called the police.
Once they arrived and started looking into the situation, they
discovered she was a missing person.”
Smith added that the Wilson police department probably will not open a criminal investigation.
English
was thought by neighbors and family members to have left with a
middle-aged man seen driving in the neighborhood last Tuesday — the day
she went missing.
The sheriff’s department has been searching
English’s computer for clues to her whereabouts and will continue to
investigate the case.
“We took her story about how she left with a
female friend, but we think there was another side to the story and
we’re working on that,” said Captain David Newton.
“Parents
should be more aware of the dangers of the Internet,” said Hatcher.
“It’s a useful tool that can be very dangerous if children aren’t
monitored properly. It’s terrifying to think of the situation Raven
could have gotten herself into.
“My heart goes out to every
parent that has ever lost a child. My niece and nephew mean the world to
me, and I can’t conceive of the idea of ever losing them. Keep the
faith. We did, and it worked.”
“We thank everyone for their
thoughts and prayers, and extend enormous thanks to the Scotland County
Sheriff’s Department,” Hatcher added.
Sheriff Shep Jones said his department used all of the resources available in the search for the missing juvenile.
“Fortunately, we were able to find her and return her safely to her family,” Jones said.
