Brothers: NAIM and ELIJAH SAMPSON - 5 and 3 yo - Dallas TX
DALLAS — Family and friends couldn't hold back the tears Saturday
when they stepped inside Inspiring Body of Christ Church in Dallas.
One by one, they walked up to two pale blue coffins for Elijah, 3, and his five-year-old brother Naim Muhammad.
Their mother, Kametra Sampson, kissed both of them before funeral services began.
The boys' lives came to a tragic end last Monday on the first day of
school. Their father confessed to drowning them in a creek, police said.
"I wish I could say this isn't hard, family. But I can't say that, family, because it is," said IBOC Pastor Rickie Rush.
The funeral wasn't focused on the murders, but rather on faith and healing.
"I know it's hard right now, but I know my sons are in
heaven," Sampson said, fighting back tears. "I know they are going to be
all right."
Sampson thanked those who attended the services for their support
during this difficult time. She also shared the last moments she had
with her sons.
Naim promised her this past week he would take her on a trip.
As for Elijah, he asked his mom to start using his nickname again.
"He would say, 'Mama, you can call me Lala,'" recalled Sampson.
Both boys were remembered as energetic, funny, and smart. They loved being outdoors.
"These kids came to my house this spring and planted my garden," said
family friend Arnetris Grand. "They stepped on more seeds than they
planted."
The boys' father, 32-year-old Naim Rasool Muhammad, is charged with
capital murder and is being held on a $2 million dollar bond.
Muhammad and Sampson have a third child together, a one-year-old
baby. The boy is in now with Child Protective Services. A custody
hearing is expected a week from Tuesday.
"I love them. I will never forget them," Kametra Sampson said.

Dallas County District Attorney's office said Wednesday in a press release that prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a 32-year-old man accused of drowning his two sons.
Naim Rasool Muhammad was indicted a capital murder charge in the deaths of Naim, 5, and Elijah, 3.
Dallas police have said that Muhammad kidnapped the kids on the first day of school in August when they were walking with their mother.
Police said that Muhammad confessed on video to drowing his sons in a remote Glenn Heights creek.
After killing the boys, Muhammad left them near the creek and returned with his mother. He placed their bodies in the car after his mother asked where the children were, authorities have said. His mother called police.
