KATELYN MARKHAM - 22 yo - Fairfield OH
FAIRFIELD — Hours before another search for missing Fairfield woman
Katelyn Markham, her father spoke to “Today” show host Ann Curry.
“I
want her to come home,” Dave Markham said of his 22-year-old daughter,
who was last seen Aug. 13.
“For her to disappear like this, it’s just
... I just can’t imagine, can’t believe it’s happening. It’s a parent’s
worst nightmare, and I’d like for it to be over.”
Investigators have said they don’t know of another case as baffling as this one.
“What do you think happened to your girl?” Curry asked Markham.
“I don’t know. ... I wish there was some kind of struggle at the apartment. .... Someone out there knows something.”
“She has never gone for 24 hours without letting somebody know, let alone two weeks,” Markham told Curry.
Another
search for Katelyn Markham is planned for 5 p.m. today at the Pleasant
Avenue Kroger in Colerain Twp. On Saturday afternoon, Dave Markham was
accompanied by more than 100 family and volunteers as they continued
their search, this time inside Harbin Park, which is located about three
miles from her apartment.
One of Katelyn’s friends, Victoria
Chafin, who graduated with her from Fairfield High School in 2008,
organized Saturday’s search. She said the search for Markham will
continue until she’s found.
Chafin said Markham was set to
graduate from college in a few weeks, and her father said she was going
to move to Colorado to “spread her wings” for a couple of years.
Instead, sometime late on Aug. 13 she was last seen in her Dorshire
Drive apartment by her fiance John Carter. Her dog was locked up inside
her bedroom, Chafin said.
“She wouldn’t get up and just leave,”
Chafin said. “I don’t want people to give up hope. I hope we find her,
she’s OK, happy and healthy and she can get back to a normal lifestyle.”
Just
then, Chafin’s cellphone rang, and one of the group of searchers said
they had found a hoop earring and a cellphone battery in the park.
Chafin told them to collect the items and call the Fairfield Police
Department, but Katelyn’s father said he never saw her wear that style
of earrings.
As far as what happened to Markham, Chafin said everyone has different opinions, and she didn’t want to share hers in the media.
“All that matters is we find her,” she said. “It doesn’t matter who did it.”
Dave
Markham, 50, said he has returned to work part time. He sometimes can’t
sleep at night. He takes it “one day at a time,” then added that “life
don’t stop.”
He knows he also has to care for his other daughter,
15-year-old Ally. He thought about Ally, and when earlier this summer
she wanted to go to Kings Island with her friends, he told her to never
leave her friends.
“The way I feel right now, that’s why we act like that,” he said. “Nobody wants to feel like this.”
CrimeStoppers
said they haven’t received any additional calls related to the case,
despite the phone number being displayed on national television. A
$5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Markham’s
whereabouts.
The missing persons case made national news Thursday
night as the search for Markham continued. Katelyn’s fiance and several
experts not affiliated with the case were interviewed by Nancy Grace for
her show on CNN’s HLN.
During the show Carter was questioned about his motives and the timeline of events surrounding the case.

Reward now $25K in Katelyn Markham case
FAIRFIELD - A reward for information about the disappearance of
Katelyn Markham jumped to $25,000 Monday as the missing art student’s
family invited a Texas search and recovery team to help coordinate the hunt for her.
Officials with Crime Stoppers said relatives and friends of Markham
added $20,000 in reward money to the $5,000 from an anonymous contributor.
Tim Miller, founder and director of Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and
Recovery Team, was scheduled to arrive at the Cincinnati/Northern
Kentucky International Airport at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday
.
Sherry McKinney, EquuSearch office administrator, said Miller had received approval from Fairfield police to help.
“Once he gets up there he determines what resources we need and decides
what to pull in,” McKinney said. “He can help organize the searches with
the volunteers that are up there.
Miller started the group in 2000 to help find lost and missing people
and has dedicated the team to the memory of his daughter, Laura, who was
abducted and murdered in North Galveston County in 1984, according to
the non-profit organization’s website.
Up until now, volunteers – many of them friends and relatives of Markham
– have conducted scattered searches around the area near her home.
Those branched out over the weekend to include parts of Hamilton County
that border Fairfield. The latest was 5 p.m. Monday from the Fairfield
Kroger off Pleasant Avenue.
Police dropped out of the searches the first week after Markham vanished
early Aug. 14 from her Dorshire Drive townhouse sometime between 11
p.m. and 11:30 p.m. when her fiancé John Carter said he left.
But that doesn’t mean police have dropped their probe into Markham’s
disappearance, which has received national media attention on “Nancy
Grace” and an appearance by Markham’s father, David, and Carter on Monday’s “Today” show.
Investigators continue to sort through
information while they wait for lab analyses on items taken from
Markham’s home that might help them unravel the mystery, said Lt. Kevin Haddix.
“We’ve got a lot of information that we have to sift
through. We’re just taking all the information we’ve got and we’re
trying to organize it and see where it takes us,” Haddix said Monday.
“We’re exploring all possible explanations. Obviously foul play is one of those possibilities.”
Megan Gordon, Markham’s friend and former
classmate at the Art Institute of Ohio in Cincinnati, isn’t bothered
that police are working behind the scenes and staying quiet.
“They are doing an incredible job. I know this is their job but I can see
their hearts are also in this. They care. They are the community,” the Florence woman said.
Carter told reporters that he was the last
person to see Markham late on Aug. 13 after the two spent the evening
hanging out at her townhouse. Carter said he went looking for Markham
about 8 p.m. Aug. 14 after she didn’t return his text messages that day
when she was supposed to be at work at David’s Bridal at Tri-County Mall.
Police were called after Carter found her purse, keys, dog
and car still at her townhouse, but no sign of Markham. The dog was shut
in the bedroom, which Carter said was unusual. Markham’s cell phone
also was gone but authorities said it was turned off at 12:45 a.m. Aug.
14 and the GPS also was turned off.
Carter could not be reached Monday. A message left at his home was not returned.
Gordon encouraged the public to continue to look for Markham or at least
spread the word about her disappearance through Facebook.
Markham’s friends have set up several searches through the Facebook page
“Missing! Help Bring Katelyn Markham Home!!”
Gordon hasn’t given up hope of finding Markham.
“God is the reason miracles happen every day,” she said.
Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 513-352-3040 or Fairfield police at 513-829-8201.

FAIRFIELD - An ad hoc group of friends and relatives trying to find Katelyn Markham just got a little help.
Tim Miller, founder and director of Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and
Recovery Team – a group that has helped in searches for Natalee Holloway
in Aruba and Caylee Anthony in Florida – arrived Tuesday to help find
Markham, who vanished from her Dorshire Drive townhouse more than two weeks ago.
Miller met with Fairfield detectives Tuesday afternoon, then with Markham’s family,
who had called to request EquuSearch’s help.
“We’ve had a lot of success. But we’re only as good as our next search and
Katelyn’s our next search,” Miller said. “So let’s put all our resources
to work and let’s hold out that little glimmer of hope too that she’s alive.”
About 40 searches – many of them Markham’s friends –
gathered at Waterworks Park in Fairfield before dispersing to several
smaller areas around Fairfield, Hamilton and northern Hamilton County to
look for clues in Markham’s disappearance.
Organizer Victoria Chafin, who went to high school with Markham,
was excited about the arrival of EquuSearch.
“If we don’t search for her, nobody’s going to find her. She’s not just
going to pop back up out of the blue,” Chafin said. “I was told there
was going to be a huge search that we wouldn’t even imagine the size of,
that there could be thousands of people there.”
On Tuesday, Miller was trying to find a building that could serve as a command
center and said he hoped to start the first official search today.
He also was assembling a core group of searchers who might fly in with
equipment such as sonar to check waterways and possibly a small drone
plane. Miller said he also intends to draw from EquuSearch members in
Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Offers of help already have started coming in, he said.
Miller started EquuSearch in 2000, 16 years after his
own daughter, Laura, then 16, was abducted and murdered in North
Galveston County. Her body was found 17 months after she disappeared in 1984.
“For myself, I know there is one thing worse than having a
murdered child and that’s going through 17 months of not knowing and
that’s what these families go through and that’s their roughest time,” Miller said.
He’s not sure how long EquuSearch will be looking for
Markham. But he noted the organization found the body of an Illinois
girl in a day and a half. She was missing eight months.
He said EquuSearch has the experience, resources and determination to find
Markham. The organization has been involved in more than 1,200 searches
for missing people nationwide and in other countries.
“Now we need a little bit of luck to go along with it and see if we can bring
some type of resolution,” Miller said of Markham.
Asked if it was possible that Markham left on her own and didn’t want to be
found, Miller replied, “There’s always that possibility. But, we’ve got
one fact and that fact is that she is missing.”
Markham vanished early Aug. 14. Her fiancé, John Carter, of Fairfield, has said he left
Markham’s townhouse around 11 p.m. or 11:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and that he
last received a text from Markham – a photograph of her – just before 1 a.m.
He went looking for her that evening after he said he wasn’t
able to reach her by cell phone. Carter said he found her purse, keys,
dog and car still at her townhouse. He called police and reported her missing.
Markham also did not show up at work Sunday for work at David’s Bridal shop
n the Tri-County Mall, according to police.
Her cell phone was gone and authorities said it was turned off at 12:45 a.m. Aug. 14 and that the GPS wasn’t on.
Carter has said Fairfield police administered a polygraph test and that he passed.
Police would not comment.

Mapping Out The Search For Katelyn Markham
"If something has happened, the sooner we find, the better chance we have of finding the cause of death."
The
man whose led searches for some of the most well known missing persons
in America maps out tomorrow's search for Katelyn Markhahm. Describing
Katelyn Markham as missing for more than two weeks doesn't really
describe the mystery. The 22 year-old art student simply vanished from
her Fairfield condo. With keys, car and purse left behind, no evidence
of a struggle and no evidence she's alive, a national search group is
mapping out areas where someone might put a body.
Local 12's Deborah Dixon tells us it's not what people want to hear, but it is the reality.
Tim Miller of the Texas search and recovery team has done this more than 12 hundred times... 1,200 searches for the missing.
Tim
Miller, Texas EquuSearch: "Found remains of many people, in many
different areas. I'm familiar with what to look for, areas where someone
can drive in, dump something and pull out without being seen."
Areas
mapped out are areas not searched before, quite frankly, they are areas
where someone would put a body, like here, right behind a busy road.
Dave
Rader, Assistant Search Director: "These are places, might be busy in
the day, at night little lighting, people wouldn't even know back here."
Rader is helping map out areas for tomorrow's search that will
start at the p-l-s... point last seen... and go 8 or ten miles in
different directions. Hundreds are expected to help in the search. They
don't want to reveal targeted areas in case there is evidence someone
wants to move or destroy.
"You are searching for a body, that's correct or something to show us the direction we need to go to find Katelyn."
Katelyn's
father is still hoping she's alive. So much so, he bought her favorite
peppers at the grocery store Sunday. He wants to have favorite foods in
case she comes home.
"Some of her favorite foods I put in the cart."
"I want to have her favorite foods... what she likes."
Searchers
can go to the Fairfield West Baptist Church on Muskopf Road in
Fairfield at 8 tomorrow morning. They're asked to wear long pants, long
sleeved shirts, wear good shoes, and bring a lunch and water for the
day. No children or dogs are permitted.

Re: KATELYN MARKHAM - 22 yo - Fairfield OH
Police say they have a new clue in the search for a missing Fairfield
woman-it involves Katelyn Markham's cell phone. And searchers will
continue their quest today to look for the 22 year old, who has been
missing for nearly three weeks now.
According to our partners at
the Hamilton Journal News, police have determined the location of the
cell phone tower that Markham's phone last pinged or received a signal
from. But, police are not revealing that location. Police say the
phone was turned off at 12:45 a.m. on the day she was reported missing,
August 14th.
The Journal News also reports that Markham's fiance
has changed his story about taking and passing a polygraph test. When
John Carter appeared on Nancy Grace’s CNN show on August 25, he said he
took and passed a polygraph test concerning the disappearance of Katelyn
Markham. But when Carter appeared again on the show Wednesday evening,
he said he had not taken one, but he would if he was asked. Police have
declined to comment, saying they aren’t discussing details of the
investigation. Carter did not return a call for comment Thursday.
Nearly
100 people gathered in Fairfield on Thursday to help the Texas
Equusearch Mounted Team look for Markham. Many of the people taking
part in these searches have never met Markham--but they feel it's their
duty to do everything they can to bring her home. Volunteers looked
through parks and densely wooded areas.
This morning, searchers
from Texas will gather again at a command center at Fairfield West
Baptist Church on Muskoph Road at 8 a.m. Volunteers must be dressed
appropriately for searching through wooded areas and have a photo ID.
Equusearch
is alson helping in the search for a missing Hamilton man. Billy
Disilvestro disappeared in February. He was last seen visiting a friend
on Ross Avenue in Hamilton. His mother says DiSilvestro left behind
his cell phone... and does not have his medication for seizures.
The
Texas Equuasearch teams has helped in more than 1200 searches,
including those for Caylee Anthony-a two year old girl who went missing
in Florida in 2008 and was eventually found dead- and Natalie Holloway, a
college student from Alabama who disappeared during a graduation trip
to Aruba in 2005. She has never been found.

Markham's fiance explains conflicting statements made to Nancy Grace
FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -
Katelyn Markham's fiance, John Carter, is explaining conflicting statements he made to HLN's Nancy Grace.
Carter reported Markham missing the evening of Aug. 14 after not hearing from her all day.
Grace asked Carter during an interview last week if he had taken a polygraph test and he said that he did.
However, during another interview on Wednesday night, Carter said that he didn't take a polygraph.
Carter explained the discrepancy to FOX19's Jennifer Grove on Friday.
He said he had a voice stress analysis test
shortly after Katelyn went missing, not a polygraph test. The voice
stress analysis is a form of a lie detector test.
Carter said he now realizes the difference
between a polygraph and a voice stress analysis. He says Nancy Grace
didn't give him a chance to explain what kind of lie detector test he
took.
Carter says he will no longer speak live on
Grace's show, and will only speak to her producers. He feels her
interviews stopped being focused on Katelyn and zeroed in on him.
Texas EquuSearch, a mounted search and
recovery team, has organized a massive search for Markham that began on
Thursday and continues through Saturday. Volunteers interested in
searching should arrive at the command center, Fairfield West Baptist
Church, 5345 Muskoph Road, at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately
for searching in wooded areas - long pants and long-sleeve shirts - and
bring their own packed lunch and plenty of water. Searchers must be at
least 18 years old and bring a photo ID.
See the latest on the search efforts, as well as the interview with John Carter, Friday night on the FOX19 Evening News at 6.

Re: KATELYN MARKHAM - 22 yo - Fairfield OH
Hundreds expected to join search for missing woman
Texas man’s group, EquuSearch, aiding Fairfield case.
FAIRFIELD — The search for Katelyn Markham,
who’s been missing since Aug. 14, will continue at 8:30 a.m. today as
the area deals with near record-high temperatures.
Tim Miller, the founder and director of Texas EquuSearch, said that he
expects close to 300 people to help out with today’s search, and that
includes 11 more EquuSearch staff members from Central Ohio, Illinois and Kentucky.
Horses, four-wheelers, divers and sonar equipment will also be utilized to go along with the ground searchers.
“Everyone is so dedicated and driven,”
Miller said. “We anticipate again to eliminate a lot of ground. We’ll
have plenty of experience and dedication and resources. All we need is
that luck to go along with it to bring this to an end.”
Miller wouldn’t disclose what areas the groups searched Friday and will search
today. Thirty-five volunteers helped out on Friday, a day in which no
clues were discovered and temperatures flirted with the 100-degree mark.
“Two things to think about,” Miller said. “Motive and why they’re here; if
they’re here specifically to be involved in the search. If they’re here
for the right reasons, we certainly want them here. The other concern is
the heat exhaustion. People can put their own health in jeopardy. These
are terrible weather conditions to be doing something like this.”
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have a photo identification.
They are asked to check in at the Texas EquuSearch’s local headquarters at
Fairfield West Baptist Church, 5345 Muskopf Road. Long pants and good
walking shoes are recommended.
Markham was reported missing Aug. 14 by her
fiance John Carter and her father, Dave. Police say there are no signs
of foul play, but there is no reasonable explanation as to what could
have led to her disappearance.
A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Markham. Call
Fairfield police at (513) 829-8201 or CrimeStoppers at (513) 352-3040.

The Texas group organizing a massive search for a missing 22-year-old Fairfield
girl is temporarily suspending the search for the rest of the weekend.
Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller says the
search is being suspended due to the extreme heat in the area and to
give searchers time to "decompress." Miller will be returning to Texas
for the rest of the weekend to help with a fundraiser for the
organization.
On Saturday, volunteers participated in long
day of searching for Katelyn Markham, utilizing divers and horse teams.
Markham was last seen by her fiance August 14th.
Texas EquuSearch is scheduled to resume their search on Tuesday.

More than 200 volunteers and 25 mounted riders and several
four-wheeled vehicles searched from a command center at Fairfield West
Baptist Church on Muskopf Road for about eight hours Saturday before
stopping at about 4:30 p.m.
The volunteers included Cincinnati
restaurateur Jeff Ruby, who gave Texas EquuSearch a check for $10,000 to
support the volunteer group's efforts.
"I was overwhelmed," Miller said. "He said, 'I think you're doing a great job, and I want to help keep the search going.'"
Ruby made national headlines
recently by running a series of newspaper ads critical of the verdict
in the sensational murder trial of Orlando mom Casey Anthony, who was
found not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter.

9th September 2011
A Texas search is back in the Tri-State this morning and plans new
searches today to look for a missing Fairfield woman. Texas Equusearch
founder Tim Miller organized another search for 22 year old Katelyn
Markham this morning.
The group was here last week, hunting
wooded areas and well-traveled spots alike, but found nothing of
significance to lead them to Markham, who went missing more than three
weeks ago.
We'll let you know the results of today's efforts here on Local12.com.
More from our stories on the search last Friday, September 2nd
According
to our partners at the Hamilton Journal News, police have determined
the location of the cell phone tower that Markham's phone last pinged or
received a signal from. But, police are not revealing that location.
Police say the phone was turned off at 12:45 a.m. on the day she was
reported missing, August 14th.
The Journal News also reports
that Markham's fiance has changed his story about taking and passing a
polygraph test. When John Carter appeared on Nancy Grace’s CNN show on

disappearance of Katelyn Markham. But when Carter appeared again on the
show Wednesday evening, he said he had not taken one, but he would if he
was asked. Police have declined to comment, saying they aren’t
discussing details of the investigation. Carter did not return a call
for comment Thursday.
About 25 people gathered in Fairfield this
morning to help the Texas Equusearch Mounted Team look for Markham.
That's significantly less than the 100 volunteers who spent Thursday
searching for her. But today's search is more intensive-the group is
walking shoulder to shoulder in a remote area filled with heavy brush
and rocks.
Equusearch is also helping in the search for a
missing Hamilton man. Billy Disilvestro disappeared in February. He was
last seen visiting a friend on Ross Avenue in Hamilton. His mother
says DiSilvestro left behind his cell phone... and does not have his

Katelyn Markham Remains Missing after Three Long Months
November 19, 2011 06:05 PM EST
Katelyn Markham remains missing after three months have
passed in her mysterious disappearance from Fairfield, Ohio. There
haven't been many clues in the case of the missing 22-year-old woman, so
is this case cold? Her family and friends are trying to keep it from
turning out that way, but even police claim they are still working the case daily.
When
Kateyln Markham vanished three months ago, the last person who saw her
was her fiancé John Carter. This mysterious disappearance doesn't make
it difficult to cast suspicion at the man, who had been caught in
irrelevant but interesting lies in the beginning. First he claimed to
have taken and passed a lie detector test. Later, he said he never took one but wanted to.
It seems that the person/people police should
be investigating while searching for Katelyn is right under their noses
and probably have had ample opportunity to dispose of any incriminating
evidence. It's sad to say it, but the statistics aren't in Katelyn's favor when it comes to survival—unless of course, she was a runaway bride.
Did Katelyn Markham vanish on her own, or was she a victim of foul play?
There aren't really many details that police are willing to divulge with the public, but they claim foul play isn't out of the question at this point.
They say that they've gotten a lot of leads in the case, although 99%
of them seem to go nowhere. What they have gathered, however, isn't
being shared for the solidarity of the case.
The circumstances under which Katelyn Markham vanished are odd. She was engaged. She was
planning on making life-altering changes such as moving away from Ohio
to Colorado with her fiancé and starting a new life away from everything
she knew around her old home. It's been speculated that the young woman
could've gotten cold feet and left on her own. This wouldn't be the
first time someone has done something like this, but nonetheless, things
do look suspicious about her disappearance.
Could Katelyn Markham be a victim of a serial predator?
Although her fiancé, John Carter, seems a little off-putting, there have been
different sources mentioning the possibility of a serial predator.
Katelyn Markham lives suspiciously close to an area from which several
women have vanished. All in a radius of just a couple hundred miles,
more than five women of similar features have disappeared without a
trace. Their cases have remained unsolved. Aside from Katelyn's
disappearance you've got Holly Bobo, the 20-year-old nursing student
from Darden, Tennessee. Karen Johnson Swift also vanished just an hour
from Holly Bobo. Lauren Spierer isn't too far away either. These women
share the same fair-skinned, blonde features, but these could just be coincidences.

Katelyn Markham Developments -- Police Get New Clues
December 04, 2011 06:35 AM EST
Katelyn Markham vanished from Fairfield, Ohio for several
months and the case of the missing woman is still active. It's an
unsolved case that is apparently generating new leads that have caused
investigators to retrace their steps. Could these new leads and
investigative tactics bring closure to this high-profile case?
In the early days of her disappearance, it was lightly speculated that Katelyn
Markham may have disappeared of her own free will.
That's because police ruled from the beginning that there were no signs
of foul play, struggle or abduction in any way. She was soon-to-be
married to her longtime fiance' John Carter, and the two of them were
planning on moving across the country. That would make any 22-year old
woman nervous, wouldn't it?
However, it's been quite some time and
Katelyn hasn't surfaced, nor have any publicly accessible clues. So
what gives? It's obvious that by now there is something foul afoot.
Katelyn couldn't have disappeared on her own; she couldn't possibly be a
runaway bride.
New clues in Katelyn Markham Disappearance
Police chief Michael Dicky says they've been looking into some tips they
received two weeks ago. This makes it apparent that they are onto some
kind of trail, but they won't clarify deeply on what it is.
"Within the past week we've gotten one lead that we're looking at, and as early
as two weeks ago, I got an email out of Florida with someone who
provided us with some information," he said.
What happened to Katelyn Markham?
With there not being much information in the case, it's easy to see why this
case is unsolved. However, detectives are still working diligently to
find out just what happened to the pretty girl from Fairfield. It's been
speculated by such names in criminal justice as private investigator
Bill Warner, that Katelyn could be the victim of a serial predator.
Other women who could be connected to this young woman's disappearance
include Holly Bobo, Lauren Spierer and Karen Johnson Swift. All of these
women are suspiciously close in region and share common
characteristics. It would be horrifying if this suspicion becomes a reality.
It's interesting that this latest set of tips came from
the state of Florida, which is over 1,000 miles away. Could there be any
weight to the rumors of a serial killer? Why not? Why else would leads
travel from state-to-state? Unless, someone is on the run.

Police investigating possible connection to missing Fairfield woman case
By Eric Robinette, Staff Writer
12:54 PM Thursday, June 21, 2012
FAIRFIELD — Fairfield police are investigating whether an arrest in Oxford has a connection to the disappearance of Katelyn Markham, who has been missing for nearly a year.
On June 15, Oxford police arrested Gurpreet Kang, 26, of Hamilton for an alleged sexual assault of a Miami University student that occurred last year in Oxford.
Kang reportedly worked at a convenience store and lived near Markham’s residence, Lt. Kevin Haddix of the Fairfield Police Department said in a release.
Fairfield police Chief Mike Dickey refused to comment on the Markham case and would not specify the convenience store where Kang supposedly worked.
“We’ve been in contact with Oxford police. You’ll have to draw your own conclusions from that,” Dickey said.
Kang was arrested about two weeks ago by authorities in Wayne County, Mich. in Detroit and was extradited to Ohio.
On April 15, 2011, a 22-year-old female student living in the 500 block of North Campus Avenue reported to Oxford police she woke up and allegedly found Kang on top of her.
Kang is being held in Butler County Jail on $250,000 bond and appeared today in Butler County Area 1 Court. He has been charged with one felony charge of sexual battery.
Markham, 22, has been missing for more than nine months after last being seen Aug. 13, 2011 at her Dorshine Drive apartment in Fairfield.

Father Dismisses Link Between Missing Woman and Rape Suspect
06/22/2012
The father of a missing Fairfield woman says he does not believe a man
arrested for an Oxford rape had anything to do with his daughter's
disappearance-even though the man worked right across the street from
where his daughter lived.
Art student Katelyn Markham vanished
from her Fairfield condo on August 13th, 2011. Her car was still in the
condo lot. Her keys, purse and dog still inside. There was no sign of a
struggle. The only thing missing was Katelyn and her cell phone, which
has never been found.
Gurpreet Kang of Hamilton is charged in a
sexual assault last year in Oxford. The victim was familiar with him.
Katelyn's father David Markham remembers Kang as the polite clerk at the
Marathon gas station market across the street from Katelyn's condo.
Fairfield
Police have said they are investigating a possible link between Kang
and Katelyn. But to David, is doesn't make sense. He says Katelyn
wouldn't have left her condo and walked across the street to the
Marathon station because her keys were still in her condo.
As
for the theory that Kang come knocking at her door... "How did he get
her out of apartment, or get her to open the door? As a father, knowing
Katelyn, it does not make sense. It had to be someone she knew better."
Kang left his job at the store in the summer. But police
aren't sure exactly when. Was it in July, after they collected his DNA
for the Oxford rape case but before Katelyn disappeared? His family
moved away from the area in June. "he might have been gone, for everyone
to say the case solved, breaking news leads, no."
David
Markham doesn't want people to be distracted by Kang "I don't want
people to over look a clue that could be out there. I'm not convinced
it's related."
There is still a $50,000 reward for the
information that solves the Markham mystery. On Saturday at 3 p.m. there
is a gathering at the Great Miami River Dam in Hamilton to remember
Katelyn.

Monday August 13, 2012 8:22 AM
UPDATED: Monday August 13, 2012 8:25 AM
FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Authorities are still searching for a young southern Ohio woman who went missing one year ago.
A year ago Monday was the last time Katelyn Markham was seen. The Fairfield woman turned 22 three days later.
Fairfield Police Chief Mike Dickey said leads poured in by the dozens right after she vanished. But they have dwindled since then. One detective is assigned to the case, Dickey says, and there's still a $50,000 reward for information.
The Hamilton JournalNews reports that Markham did not show up for work Aug. 14, 2011, at a mall bridal shop. She left her car, her keys, her dog, and all personal belongings except her cellphone.

Man describes finding Katelyn Markham's remains
Bones found along creek in southeast Indiana
04/11/2013
CEDAR GROVE, Ind. —The man who found the remains of Katelyn Markham says it didn't appear anyone tried to hide her body.
Andy Hicks told
WLWT News 5's Brian Hamrick that he was searching for scrap metal along
Big Cedar Creek in Franklin County on April 7 when he found a human
jawbone.
He
said he then saw a skull inside a Kroger bag and some other bones
nearby. Hicks said there was some hair, but it appears that the remains
were almost completely decomposed.
Markham was reported missing on Aug. 14, 2011 in Fairfield.
Hicks said that it appeared that someone had dumped a load of trash on
top of or near the body at some point, but not in a way that would have
kept it hidden.
Hamrick said that the woman who owned the land told him that she had
called police a couple of years ago about people who were dumping trash
on her property.

Man Describes Discovery Of Katelyn Markham's Body
04/11/2013
The father of a Fairfield woman, whose remains were found in Franklin
County, Indiana on Sunday, says the discovery brings him closure-and
heartache.
Indiana State Police spent four days identifying
the remains as those of 21-year-old Katelyn Markham. 24 hours after the
announcement was made, Katelyn's father spoke with Local 12's Deb
Dixon-as did the man who found her.
Markham was reported missing
in August of 2011. Until she was identified yesterday, Katelyn's
father had to wonder if his young artistic daughter might find her way
home. Now he knows the answer. "It's something I've been
fearing, and expecting now I can put her to rest and bring her home, and
move on to finding why she was there."
Katelyn was found off a
rural Indiana road, a country mile from the Brookville Canoe Rental and
about a 40 minute drive from her condo. "It's a path between here and
Brookville. She did spent time in Brookville."
That time in
Brookville was spent in the company of her fiance John Carter. He said
she was alive when he left her Fairfield condo on he August night in
2011 when she disappeared. It seems clear Katelyn wasn't planning on
going anywhere. Her car, keys purse and the sketchbook the art student
took everywhere all left behind.
"I found jaw bone here, and the
rib bones and skull over there. The rest of the bones were through
here." Andy Hicks is the father of three girls. He was looking for
scrap metal last weekend when he made the gruesome discovery. "She was
laying on side of the road, skull in plastic bag, IN A PLASTIC BAG? Her
head was in a plastic grocery bag..NOT ON TOP, BUT INSIDE? Yes."
Neighbors
say the area where Katelyn was found was a kind of "unofficial dump
site." You can't really see it from the road. It makes you think the
person who did this has to be familiar with the area.
Hicks
hopes finding Katelyn brings some peace to her father. David Markham
says it does, but he can't help but going back to what could have been.
Katelyn had put together her resume for graphic design. "I feel the pain
of not seeing her art on a museum wall someday."
Katelyn's fiance, John Carter did not want to be interviewed. His only comment about finding Katelyn's remains is" life sucks."
