The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a
10-year-old girl who disappeared from outside her aunt’s home in the
Bordeaux Road area of Littlerock this afternoon.
The aunt of Annika Anderson, 10, reported the child missing about
1:40 p.m. after she disappeared from the yard where she had been playing
outside on a swing, Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin said.
Elwin said it’s possible that the boyfriend of Anderson’s mother may have picked her up in a car and driven off.
Elwin said sheriff’s detectives have no reason to believe the child would be
in danger if she was in fact picked up by her mother’s boyfriend, but as
of about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, they did not know if that was the case.
The child’s mother died on Saturday, and was staying with the aunt, Elwin said.
The sheriff’s office has tried to use a K-9 unit to track the child’s
movements, but it did not pick up a scent, Elwin said. The sheriff’s
office has activated its search and rescue team to look for the girl, he added.
The circumstances of the child’s disappearance do not rise
to the level necessary for the sheriff’s office to be able to issue an
“Amber Alert,” that would result in a widespread warning to local media,
because there is no evidence that the child is in imminent danger,
Elwin said. But because law enforcement does not yet know how the girl
disappeared, Elwin said the sheriff’s office is alerting media outlets .
Anyone with information on the girl’s whereabouts should call 911. Elwin said
the sheriff’s office is working on obtaining a photo of the child and
distributing it to the media.

A 10-year-old girl who was reported missing from Littlerock on Wednesday was found in Oregon with her late mother's boyfriend.
According
to Lt. Greg Elwin of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, Annika
Anderson was found around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in Oregon. "She was with
her mother's boyfriend, Rocky Rogers, and is fine," Elwin said in an
email on Thursday morning.
Annika's mother died last week, and she had been living with an aunt and uncle in Littlerock.
Annika's
aunt reported the girl missing about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday after she
disappeared from the yard where she had been playing outside on a swing,
Elwin said.
Authorities suspected that Rogers might have come by the house and
picked the girl up, but there was no confirmation of that, so the
sheriff's office launched a search for the girl.
"After consulting
with the prosecuting attorney's office, it was determined that Rocky
has as much custodial rights to Annika as her aunt and uncle in
Littlerock," Elwin's email said. "That said, TCSO determined the best
course of action at this point is to allow Annika to stay with Rocky and
allow the Oregon court of jurisdiction to determine the custody
status."
Annika was "reportedly happy and content and felt secure
and safe with the person she has known her whole life as 'dad' " when
she was located by Oregon State Police on Wednesday, Elwin said.
