"Newborn Jane" BLACKMORE - Hours old - Knotts Island NC
Poster's Note: Original story from June 23, 2011
A 16 year-old-girl from Knotts Island, North Carolina is accused of killing her newborn baby girl.
Rebecca Jo Blackmore is in the Currituck County jail charged with first degree murder.
Her arrest came after a medical
examiner's report determined her baby was born alive last Friday, but
died of stab wounds inflicted just after the birth.
Deputies were alerted of the crime after Blackmore came to the Chesapeake General Hospital.
According to her arrest report, she told nurses she had just delivered a
baby girl and the baby was dead. She left the baby in her bedroom
closet at a home off Knotts Island Road.
The teen's Facebook page filled with messages from fellow students at Currituck County High School after the news broke.
A handful defended her, but most said they were disgusted by the alleged crime.
NewsChannel 3 is also learning more about Rebecca's boyfriend.
15-year-old Michael Derosier is also a student at Currituck County High
School he will turn 16 this Friday, according to his Facebook page.
Neighbors say Saturday night an undercover sheriff's deputies searched
the family's home looking for evidence to see if Derosier was somehow
involved in the baby's death.
So far he has not been charged in connection to the crime.
Blackmore was given a $5000 bond. Although the investigation is ongoing,
Currituck County officials do not expect to file charges against anyone
other than Rebecca Blackmore.
