"Newborn John" de la CRUZ - 6 Months - Scottsdale AZ
SCOTTSDALE - A 25-year-old woman is facing 4 counts after hitting her
baby while in a drunken rage, according to court documents.
On Thursday morning, police responded to a Scottsdale home.
Azure de la Cruz told responding officers she was upset at her boyfriend, who is the
baby's father, for possibly cheating on her.
She admitted to drinking alcohol when she got off work, and tried to wake her boyfriend
up by slapping him -- but Cruz reported, she ended up striking her
6-month-old son instead. The baby was lying in the bed next to his father, the report states.
Cruz continued screaming at her boyfriend, and tried to grab the baby from him. According to the report,
Cruz's sister was present, and was "in fear for the baby" because of Cruz's erratic behavior.
Officers did not see any visible injuries on the baby. Cruz allegedly exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication.
When she was being taken to jail, officers say she started to bang her head
against a locker case. Medics took her to the hospital and she was later
booked into jail for child abuse, assault, disorderly conduct, and endangerment.
